OWN AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP FOR 50% OF THE FRANCHISE FEE WITH THE VPX STARTER PACKAGE

A VPX shop offers essential services such as preventive maintenance, lube services, suspension, and mechanical repairs, and even car detailing.

When it comes to business growth, it doesn’t always imply going bigger. With the “VPX Starter Package,” Value Plus Auto Service Express (VPX) – The Casa Alternative – now offers a more inexpensive franchise scheme for innovative Filipinos. You may now open an auto repair shop with just 200 square meters of space, a lower initial cost, and a lower franchise fee. VPX is shifting gears and is perfectly suited to the immediate requirements of smaller communities after launching numerous full-service vehicle repair shops, including one in Batangas City recently.

“Our Starter Package offers a real benefit and solution for smaller, dynamic communities – like barangays, towns, and residential neighborhoods – by providing a smaller-scale auto shop that is equipped to handle essential car maintenance and repairs,” explains Mark Saberola, the General Manager of ValuePlus Auto Services Philippines Inc.

He points to the great potential and need for these types of auto shops as, due to the pandemic, many have resorted to using their own vehicles to avoid crowded public transport and reduce infection risk. Thus, preventive maintenance is prioritized to keep their vehicles running.

According to the GM, when it comes to preventive maintenance services, the average driver spends around P5,500 per visit for at least 2 visits per year. “And when you multiply this with the number of car owners who regularly drive to work, this spells great potential!” adds Saberola.

VPX Auto Shop, indeed, offers a unique solution, providing excellent customer service and experience that is at par with major dealerships.

Providing greater security and assurance to franchisees, the VPX Starter Package is founded on a sound business model that’s been proven to be pandemic-proof.

For P4.5M-P7M startup capital, entrepreneurs can have their own auto shop up and running in three to four months. “The beauty of this program is that you can start with a smaller space, smaller capital, and just 50% the franchise fee,” he adds. “Also, we help existing auto repair shop owners pivot their businesses and convert their shops into a VPX shop. So, they can benefit from a tried-and-tested system that accelerates their growth and professionalizes their operations.” Over the years, VPX has built a sterling reputation and has become the go-to, trusted auto shop for preventive maintenance (PMS), lube services, suspension and mechanical repairs, for after-warranty vehicles.

The VPX Starter Package is appropriate for new businesses since it requires a lower initial expenditure and a more compact layout. Operators may start their business right away, get a faster return on investment, and have the option to expand services and facilities as needed. OFWs, returning expatriates, retirees, and multi-enterprise owners who want to diversify their business portfolio can choose the start package. In fact, independent fuel retailers have used the scheme to supplement their stations.

VPX starter package includes the construction or renovation of the shop, two lifters, 3-5 trained manpower, tools and equipment and a cloud-based shop operating system among others.

When it comes to franchising, VPX assists owners every step of the way, from documentation to building and even training and management. “We provide you full confidence in the program as we have built the model to be truly successful. Start your entrepreneurial journey today and get in touch with our team.”

Pebble House Vol. 1: Kuwaderno, Ben&Ben’s sophomore album, lives up to the hype

Ben&Ben, the multi-platinum-certified and highly praised Filipino band, has officially released Pebble House, Vol. 1: Kuwaderno, their highly awaited sophomore album via Sony Music. The 13-track album showcases the songs, stories, messages, experiences, learnings, and insights that accompanied Ben&Ben on their self-reflective but satisfying journey, and it result is significant chapter in Ben&Ben’s history as it expands their sound with rewarding experiments and thematically bolder songwriting. Ben&Ben tracks are also played during our virtual meeting and it really soothes us as we listen. I really enjoyed listening to them as we played their 12 Tagalog songs with collaboration from other artists like Moira Dela Torre and Juan Karlos and it’s really my favorite since it possesses strong passion and emotions.

“Each song, much like an entry in one’s personal journal, encapsulates something uniquely special to represent something in a certain point in time,” the nine-piece collective shares in a statement. “We felt it would be important for our second album to be a work that brings us closer to our listeners and introduces them more to the wide spectrum of what we are capable of and of who we are as people.”

During the zoom meeting

Pebble House, Vol. 1: Kuwaderno surpasses expectations in terms of musicality and production, giving way to an exquisite piece of pop songcraft that feels more like a natural progression from their equally compelling debut album, Limasawa Street rather than a retread of the comfortably familiar. Since working on Kuwaderno, Ben&Ben have been more open to collaborations that venture beyond the confines of their early work.

On their second album, they have teamed up with the biggest names in the Philippine music industry on six of the songs, including “Swimming Pool” (Feat. Chito Miranda of Parokya Ni Edgar), “Pasalubong” (Feat. Moira Dela Torre), “Lunod” (Feat. Zild and juan karlos), “Sabel” (Feat. KZ Tandingan), “Kapangyarihan” (Feat. SB19), and “Sugat” (Feat. Munimuni).

“We’ve always wanted to collaborate with these artists, but we were also always a bit too shy to ask,” says lead vocalist and guitarist Paolo Benjamin. “When working on the second album however, our songs and the arrangements gave us confidence to reach out in hopes that these collaborators would likewise believe in our music enough to work with us. Thankfully, they did, and we are immensely grateful for their generosity in sharing their hard work and talent with us.”

Pre-production for the album began in the latter part of April 2021 when Ben&Ben recorded their first two songs “Upuan” and “Magpahinga.” The former will have a music video featuring He’s Into Her stars Donny Pangilinan and Belle Mariano to be released on August 29, 6pm (Sunday) via Ben&Ben’s official YouTube channel. Directed by Niq Ablao, the visuals take us into a simple yet timeless story about prom, and the jitters that come with finding the courage to ask someone out.

Ben&Ben continued to record with some of their artist colleagues near the end of May, and the album’s remaining songs were finished in mid-June. These songs include “Kuwaderno,” which sets the mood and tone for the album; “Kasayaw,” a metaphor that alludes to the difficult question of whether two people are in the same groove or not; “Elyu,” a classic sounding song about wanting to be free of something; and “Kasayaw,” a metaphor that refers to the difficult question of whether two people are in the same groove or not. “Kayumanggi,” an anthem that praises the beauty and depth of Filipino identity, and “Ilang Tulog Na lang,” a paean to long-distance love.

Pebble House, Vol. 1: Kuwaderno is written, arranged, and produced by Ben&Ben, with Jean Paul Verona and Sam Marquez (One Click Straight) involved in co-producing, mixing, and co-engineering duties. Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer Leon Zervos, who has worked with the likes of Maroon 5, Pink, and Rihanna, heads the overall mastering of the tracks.

Pebble House, Vol. 1: Kuwaderno is available now on all digital music platforms worldwide, including Spotify, from Sony Music. Fans can also expect exclusive entertainment available only on Spotify.

Virtual School Tour of Social U, The Show Must Go On

Going to school is how children learn best and a place where we begin to know ourselves better. We discover the things we like, the things we are good at, and the people we would love to be with. It holds a special place in our hearts, the time with our friends inside the four corners of the classroom is something we cherish forever.

Then and now have changed a lot but admit it or not, our social needs are challenged. Students are all behind their computer screens as they continue their studies. At a time when physical get-togethers are impossible, there’s nothing we can do but reminisce about that moment.

Island Records Philippines believes in the importance of music in bringing back the best moments of our youth that happened in school. For example, there’s nothing like the shared energy and unmatched connection at school concerts. The magic that binds people and music is unique for that moment and for that space but is lasting in everyone’s memory.

With their new initiative called Social U, Island Records Philippines strives to bring this moment back through a series of virtual concerts across four universities in the country. For students who can only wish to be in school with friends, the event aims to break out of the two-dimensional screen through virtual campus tours made more memorable and exciting with music.

The two-hour concert will be happening inside a virtual campus where every student of the respective school is invited to. The tour will host different brand games and activities that students can freely enjoy. On top of these, OPM artists and other homegrown acts and students will bring the live feel through the virtual concert.

The virtual school tour also aims to be an avenue for getting to know one another and for creating strong peer relationships among students. Especially with the opening of a new academic year amidst a pandemic, Island Records Philippines wishes to build a sense of community that is important not only as support for their academic endeavors but also as a solid footing towards creating bigger impacts in society.

In cooperation with youth organization We The Youth Vote, the initiative also aims to be a stage that highlights the value of everyone’s right to vote, especially with the nearing deadline for voter registration. The partnership aims to educate students about their suffrage and at the same time impart the bigness of the role of every Filipino youth in the upcoming elections.

Social U’s virtual school tour will be running in four universities:

  1. Far Eastern University – The first stop and happening on August 27, 2021. Autotelic, Zack Tabudlo, Leanne and Naara, Over October, Dia Mate, and Elise Huang are on the line-up for FEU’s virtual crowd. Also joining in the musical experience is FEU’s very own IABF Powerband, 1st runner up of Sayawit 2020’s Battle of the Bands.
  2. De La Salle University – Next stop will be on September 3, with Cheats, Juan Karlos, Zack Tabudlo, Fern., Elise Huang, and Dia Mate joining the virtual concert.
  3. Polytechnic University of the Philippines – On the 25th of September, Social U will arrive here together with Allison Shore, Juan Karlos, Zack Tabudlo, Over October, One Click Straight, and Scye.
  4. University of the East – The last leg would be happening on September 27. Arthur Nery, Juan Karlos, Zack Tabudlo, Fern., One Click Straight, and Autotelic will prepare performances for the concert.

Social U A Virtual Concert is made possible by Island Records Philippines and Universal Music Group For Brands, co-presented by FoodPanda, Globe Prepaid, and Globe At Home Prepaid WiFi, and is in cooperation with We The Youth Vote Philippines.

In the midst of pandemic physically together may not be possible, but Island Records Philippines and its partner brands and organizations believe that music still holds the power to make the hearts of Filipino students stay connected. The youth can become one—from concert sing-alongs to moving towards a greater goal for the future of the country.

To commemorate their 25th anniversary, The Itchyworms have released a new song called “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw)” as well as a Spotify Music + Talk Show series

As part of the band’s ongoing 25th anniversary celebration, the Itchyworms have released a new single, “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw)” as well as a six-episode podcast series, Worms Upon A Time: An Itchyworms Podcast.

The year-long musical extravaganza follows the success of Waiting For The End To Begin, which was released on vinyl and promptly sold out, as well as the release of “The Life I Know,” the first stop-motion animation music video in the Philippines, which received widespread critical praise.

25th Anniversary single

Returning to their brand of melodic pop-rock sensibilities with sharp hooks, bluesy guitar lines, and timeless lyrics, the multi-awarded Filipino band has dropped a call-and-response anthem about hurdling through the difficult times with a more hopeful mindset in life.

According to drummer and lead vocalist Jazz Nicolas, the song documents the feeling of being stuck in a challenging phase for a very long period, while hoping that everything will be fine. “You’re not quite there yet, but you feel that things are moving up a bit,” he emphasizes. “Kel and I call this the dark ages; it’s when all areas of your life seemed very bleak, and you always feel like there’s no way out. In this song, you’re not out yet, but you have a feeling that you will be.”

Even before the pandemic happened, The Itchyworms have always wanted to produce a jam song that would make for a strong album opener. Most of their newer tracks gravitate toward the uncertainty of the future or the long-simmering anxiety brought by the lockdown. “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw),” however, confronts the situation that we’re in with the healing power of a catchy, upbeat guitar-pop tune. It’s a perfect fit for what a 25th anniversary should be: a commitment to represent the band’s music and the history held within it.

When the lockdown slightly eased, the band regrouped into the legendary Big Baby Studios, where some of the alt-rock quartet’s most notable hits were born. “Big Baby was always home to The Itchyworms, especially to Jazz, because this was his father’s original studio in their ancestral home,” lead vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Jugs Jugueta shares in a statement. “I remember recording the first few demos of The Itchyworms there. I also remember Tito Sonny showing us all of his guitars, and Chino and I were just in awe. Now, it has come full circle: Jazz and Peavey and the worms continue Tito Sonny’s legacy, and the fact that we recorded our 25th Anniversary single there means so much to us.”

The Itchyworms reworked the early version of the track by adding lyrics that pay homage to their story together as a group, and even referenced some of their old songs in the material. Mixed and mastered by Jazz’s brother Peavy Nicolas, “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw)” finds the band experimenting with a Moog Little Phatty analog synth and a Yamaha Reface YC, bringing a unique twist on their classic sound. “It’s good that we finally got to go into the studio for this,” Nicolas shares the process behind the recording. “We all recorded our instruments live in the studio. and all four of us sang on it.” The Itchyworms’ guitarist Chino Singson adds, “Plus the outro or coda is totally unrelated to the tonal center of the song, but it adds a Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour vibe.”

Worms Upon A Time: An Itchyworms Show

To celebrate the release of their 25th anniversary single, the band launched Worms Upon A Time: An Itchyworms Podcast, a six-part series that explores the long-lasting appeal and impact of their albums in their 25 years of existence as a band. Produced by The Itchyworms and Sony Music Philippines, the show leverages Spotify’s latest format Music + Talk format, a new type of audio experience that brings together music tracks and spoken commentary, wrapped up into one immersive and interactive listening experience.

“I guess this is our version of the Beatles’ Anthology series,” Jugueta reveals. “Because that was the Beatles’ story as told by the Beatles. This show is our story, our history, our legacy as told by The Itchyworms ourselves. Look forward to stories that have never been shared before!”

The Itchyworms will have important guests who will be joining them on the show. Jugueta explains, “This project is very close to our hearts, and we would like to thank Sony Music Philippines for producing it and to Wincy Ong for directing it and to Peavey Nicolas for recording and mixing it.”

The Itchyworms are also set to release a mockumentary that chronicles their 25 years in the music industry and a music video of their self-titled track “Waiting For The End To Start,” whose visual narrative serves as an artistic take on the ‘dystopian future post-pandemic’ life in the Philippines.

The Itchyworms’ new single “Eto Na (Ang Maliligayang Araw)”  is available now via Sony Music Philippines on all digital music platforms worldwide. Worms Upon A Time: An Itchyworms Podcast can be found on Spotify as well.

Raise your glasses in honor of Root Beer Float Day

Root beer (yep, it’s alcohol-free) has a special place in our hearts among non-alcoholic carbonated beverages. This effervescent, sweet delight brings back memories of summer days, notably when presented with a dollop of vanilla ice cream, transforming it into the classic root beer float.

The late Frank. J. Wisner, owner of Cripple Creek Brewing in Colorado, was the man who gave us this creation. Wisner is said to have had the idea when staring at the mountains but missing the snow-capped peaks. He then came up with the idea of creating his own frosty mountain top out of a mug of root beer and scoops of vanilla ice cream as snow tops. He dubbed it “Black Cow Mountain” at first.

Every year in August, we celebrate this dessert masterpiece with the National Root Beer Float Day. In the U.S., this is often celebrated with festivals and competitions. In the Philippines, even amid a pandemic and quarantine restrictions, we can celebrate this day at home by making different versions of this foamy and fizzy drink.

The staple, of course, is root beer. One of the brands available in the local market is Mug Root Beer, a product of Pepsi-Cola Products Philippines Inc. (PCPPI) —the exclusive manufacturer of PepsiCo beverages in the country.

Get creative

Other than the classic root beer and vanilla ice cream float recipe, the food website, www.sugarandsoul.co shared other creative ways to make it.

“The Chocoholic”

  • Prepare a syrup-rimmed glass rolled in sprinkles
  • Pour root beer
  • Add scoops of ice cream but swap vanilla for chocolate ice cream
  • Top with whipped cream and drizzle with chocolate syrup

“The Very Vanilla”

  • Highlight the vanilla flavor by adding a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the root beer
  • Finish it off with a scoop of vanilla ice cream—and now you’re in vanilla, milky heaven

 “The Slushie”

  • Simply combine vanilla ice cream, root beer, and ice in a blender
  • Blend until it reaches smoothie texture
  • Top with whipped cream and cherries

These root beer float recipes will definitely be fun to create while we are on home quarantine.

“Everything about Mug root beer appeals to the senses: the rich foam, the unique aroma, and the feeling of ice-cold refreshment. It’s the perfect drink for the whole family,” said Frederick D. Ong, PCPPI president and chief executive officer.

So let us raise our mugs and salute to Root Beer Float, the bubbliest, fizziest, milkiest drink on the planet! Mug Root Beer is available at supermarkets, grocery stores, and convenience stores in 300ml cans, 1.5L PET, and 2L PET bottles. PCPPI is the official manufacturer of Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, 7-Up, Mirinda, Mug, Gatorade, Tropicana, Lipton, Sting, Premier, Milkis, and Aquafina in the Philippines.

PCPPI is committed to create a positive impact on society with programs focused on environmental sustainability, nutrition, education, and livelihood. For more information, visit www.pepsiphilippines.com.
