“You Bring Out My Best”, Orange & Lemons new single

Filipino pop rock band, Orange & Lemons have proven time and again, that they’re capable of writing infinitely that maintain a distinct sensibility and effortlessness amidst shifting trends. While listening to their new single, Orange and Lemons really brings out their best in their new indie pop single “You Bring Out My Best” is out today, September 11, 2020 (Friday), on all digital platforms worldwide via Lilystars Records.

Their new single, “You Bring Out My Best” is among their most delightful work to date: a song that finds Clem waxing poetic on the intimate moments that he once shared with a fictional ex-lover. The song was intended as a pitch for a commercial project, but the band decided to release it as a stand-alone single. Clem Castro, Orange & Lemons’ chief songwriter and producer reveals, “We just love how the song turned out, it’s the first time we sat down together working on a concept material, with no relevant inspiration for it. Just a play with words and melodic lines.”

Orange & Lemons

The production packs a punch in a way that is seamlessly understated but compelling—never overdoing the process to gain attention or impress music fans. But it’s the songwriting that remains front and center to this massive release, a distinct mold whose appeal transcends generations of any kind.

“You Bring Out My Best” was written, arranged, and demo-recorded last February 2020 at O&L’s drummer studio from 4pm to 3am. The members of the band had to maximize their time together because they live far from one another, with Clem already having an approximate idea of a verse and chorus lines for the session. After jamming with the band, they brainstormed on adding sections and parts to complete the demo. “The resulting production has that trademark O&L sound, and much, much more because of the contribution of our keyboard player, who after more than a year of being an official member has immersed himself in indie-pop stylings,” the Orange & Lemons frontman adds.

Four months after the demo was shelved, Orange & Lemons finally braved the studioto resume recording of their new single “You Bring Out My Best.”  Armed with disinfectants and face masks, the award-winning band carefully observed health and safety protocols to finish the material. Clem says, “We had to remove our shoes when tracking, and only one person is allowed at a time to record. The rest had to wait outside at the receiving area of Sonic State Audio in Mandaluyong City.”

Team Lakay’s Thunder Kid Lito Adiwang Has ONE Super Series on His Mind

The highly-anticipated ONE: A NEW BREED II pre-recorded broadcast is set to air this Friday night, 11 September, and there is a host of compelling martial arts matchups on hand to be excited about.

One person who will be watching the show closely, especially the dramatic main event between 4-time Muay Thai World Champion Pongsiri PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym of Thailand and WBC Super Lightweight Champion Sean “Clubber” Clancy of Ireland, is our very own Lito Adiwang.

More fondly known as “Thunder Kid,” Adiwang is currently at home in Baguio City with the rest of his Team Lakay teammates. Ahead of this Friday night’s martial arts blockbuster, Adiwang offers his take on the spectacular main event, and how he thinks the action will go down.

“It’s champion versus champion in the main event. Sean Clancy is a technical fighter from Ireland who went to Thailand to train and fight there and eventually become a champion. He’s even faced some legends of the sport like Saenchai. That’s how talented and good he is,” said Adiwang.

“But in this fight, I have to go for Pongsiri. I believe Pongsiri will bring everything he’s got into this fight. For me, he has the edge in experience and his fighting style is aggressive. He’s a pressure fighter who loves to come forward. I see him winning the fight by attacking with powerful striking combinations, putting the pressure on Clancy until he breaks him down. I do wish them both the best of luck.”

Adiwang is no stranger to the world of striking martial arts. After all, he is a 2-time former Philippine National Wushu Champion. Building his reputation by joining Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series and wreaking havoc on the opposition.

He is currently riding a seven-bout winning streak, with only one of those victories reaching the final bell. True to his nickname, Adiwang has taken ONE Championship’s strawweight division by storm.

ONE Championship allows its athletes to cross-compete between striking disciplines and MMA. The most notable transition has been that of former 2-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex, who has competed in Muay Thai, kickboxing, and mixed martial arts. Another notable name is France’s Fabio Pinca, who recently made his mixed martial arts debut.

When asked if he would one day consider competing in ONE Super Series since he is such a huge fan, Adiwang responded positively.

“The thought has crossed my mind. That’s definitely something that I plan for the future. I love fighting and striking, and I can see myself being successful if I make that transition. Of course, there’s a perfect time for everything, and if that time comes, I would love to compete in ONE Super Series. Right now though, I need to focus on my MMA career and prove myself in my division. I want to become an MMA world champion,” said Adiwang.

“ONE Super Series is the premier striking league in the world. The fact that ONE is signing the best of the best, legends of the striking martial arts, fans can see champion versus champion fights here. But even though ONE Super Series has a lot of champions and legends, they also give equal opportunity and chances to contenders who are fighting for their dreams and trying to climb to the top.”

ONE: A NEW BREED II was a closed-door, audience-free event previously recorded from Bangkok, Thailand.

The main event featured a showdown between 4-time Muay Thai World Champion Pongsiri PK.Saenchaimuaythaigym and former WBC Super Lightweight World Champion Sean “Clubber” Clancy of Ireland. The event also showcased the highly-anticipated debut of PBA Thailand Champion Supergirl Jaroonsak Muaythai, who took on Argentinian Muay Thai Champion Milagros Lopez.

Grandparents Day Celebration through APO cares to show appreciation for our lolos and lolas amid the pandemic

Given current public health during pandemic has been challenging for the elderly, many of whom are not allowed to leave their homes under current restrictions. There is also recommendations to practice social distancing so many cannot go out to see their family and friends, no family gatherings and weekend activities whether in malls, restaurants or in our ancestral homes until the quarantine restrictions are lifted.

But since our lolos and lolas have a special place in our hearts and  to ensure that the elderly do not feel left out in these difficult times, Ortigas Malls in partnership with ARTISTSHOPcares has launched a heartwarming initiative called ‘APO that cares’ in time for Grandparent’s Day on September 13. The ArtistShop is the same organization behind the famous S.I.L.Y.A. chairs made especially for the elderly that are found around Ortigas Malls as well as airports, commercial centers, and other public places around the country.

“Apo that cares” aims to bring the mall experience to lolos and lolas through their grandchildren. “Apo” comes from the word apothecary, which traditionally is a person who prepares and sells medicine. For this campaign, apothecary doubles as apo – the Filipino word for grandchild – and how they deliver care and love to their grandparents. Through the initiative, gift bags containing liquid hand soap and soothing balm may be purchased by grandchildren at Ortigas Malls and delivered to their elders – a gesture to remind them that although they may not be around to join the rest of the family in mall visits, they are still remembered.

Ortigas Malls values the elderly. “We recognize that the elderly should continue to live full lives and enjoy the best that life has to offer, despite the constraints posed by the quarantine,” says Architect Renee Bacani, Vice President of Ortigas Malls. “While it may take time before our lolos and lolas can go back and once again rejoin their families and loved ones in visiting malls, Ortigas Malls wants to assure them that they are cherished,” Bacani adds.

Through “APO that cares”, Ortigas Malls and ARTISTSHOPcares aim for this year’s Grandparents Day to remain memorable and joyful.

Filipina Atomweight Denice Zamboanga Win in Bangkok and Ready for Angela Lee

Denice Zamboanga, flawless victory for 23-year-old top Filipina atomweight remains to be undefeated after she recently won her fight against “Dream Girl” of Thailand in ONE: A New Breed, last Friday, 28 August. Zamboanga, now, looks forward to her bout against reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee.

After establishing her dominance in the striking exchanges early, Zamboanga snatched a quick take down, and then secured side control. From there, she worked on cranking out an Americana, and the tap came shortly after.

Looking back on her performance, Zamboanga gave a little bit of credit to her game but over matched opponent. Ultimately, “The Menace” explained that she felt she had no choice but to win this bout, to keep her dream of facing reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee alive.

“She (Watsapinya) had good control, but I think I was just able to overpower her. Of course, I couldn’t afford to lose that fight. My goal was to get the win and nothing else,” said Zamboanga.

“I didn’t expect to submit her so easily, by Americana no less. I wanted to strike with her, that’s what I was planning to do. But the submission was there, so I took the chance and I got the win. That’s the important thing.”

Zamboanga is the number one contender for Lee’s atomweight belt. Following impressive victories over top-rated opponent Jihin “Shadow Cat” Radzuan and former ONE World Title challenger Mei “V.V” Yamaguchi.

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, however, with increased security between national borders, it has proven difficult to put together events in Asia. Zamboanga was left with no other options but to take somewhat of a tune-up fight in preparation for Lee, which she wouldn’t mind doing again if the opportunity presents itself.

“Once the world goes back to normal, I think I’m ready to face Angela. She’s my idol. But if the situation stays like this for some time, and if ONE Championship is giving me the chance to fight again, then I’ll take another fight,” said Zamboanga.

Earlier on the card, Zamboanga’s older brother Drex made his ONE Championship debut a successful one, submitting Thailand’s Detchadin “Detchpool” Sornsirisuphathin in round two.

Denice kept a close eye on the contest throughout, watching from backstage.

“To be honest, I was more on edge watching my brother fight more than I was nervous for mine. That was his ONE Championship debut, so he really needed to win. I’m glad we were both able to win. This night was a milestone in our careers,” Zamboanga concluded.

Zamboanga currently remains in Bangkok to continue riding out Covid-19. She hopes to return home to Manila before the year ends.

Miss Me: New single of Sebastian Rhodes teams up with YsaYaneza

Another collaboration to get you in the mood for fun the Aussie indie sensation Sebastian Rhodes recruits Filipina-Singaporean artist YsaYanesa on the hyper-pop anthem“Miss Me”.  Where exploring the glitchy but shimmering surface of pop music, the eclectic duo trades verses over a slightly experimental production.

“Miss Me is a brash, unapologetic kiss-off that takes a swipe at someone’s past relationships. According to Rhodes, he wrote the PC-inspired jam for all his exes who are trying to come back into his life, now that things are looking up and exciting. “They were nowhere to be to be found during the tough times of extreme depression,” he adds.

Sebastian Rhodes

After writing the first verse, the Aussie hyper-pop act realized that he needed another voice to air out his frustrations, lyrically and musically. “I found Ysa through an online zoom show and I was so impressed with her performance that I reached out to her on Instagram,” says Rhodes. “Ysa had the exact sound I was looking for to complete this single. I sent her the track and we wrote it using voice memos. We both finally recorded our vocals and sent it off to be mixed and mastered.”

The collaboration paved way for a sleek, colorful bop that wouldn’t feel out of place on records released by Charli XCX, Hannah Diamond, and Caroline Polachek. Songwriting-wise, Sebastian Rhodes displays a no-frills, confessional approach as he name-checks some of his exes in the latest release. “Artists like Taylor Swift often write about particular relationships, but I’ve never heard a song that drops 5 exes,” the hyper-pop star shares in a statement. “That’s next level. It was incredibly therapeutic to reflect and laugh about how I’ve been treated in the past. I wish nothing but the best for every single one of them! It’s not coming from a place of hate.”

The newly released “Miss Me” is now available on Spotify and other streaming/digital platforms.
