A packed race weekend with 32,000 runners is provided by SM Supermalls

Major race events at SM malls in Cebu and SM Mall of Asia bring runners together through SM Active Hub lifestyle and sports programs

SM2SM run now on its 14th year where runners race from SM Seaside and SM City Cebu

Over 32,000 runners attended two significant racing events in Cebu and SM Mall of Asia this weekend, solidifying SM Supermalls’ standing as one of the nation’s top running destinations.

SM spaces evolved into lively race settings where runners congregated to compete, celebrate accomplishments, and interact with other enthusiasts, from massive road races to women-led running clubs.

As running continues to surge across the Philippines, many runners now look for venues that offer safe routes, accessible locations, and strong community support. Across its nationwide network, SM Supermalls has become a natural hub for runners, hosting major race events while providing everyday spaces where communities can train and grow. Today, this ecosystem spans 24 malls with dedicated running paths, supports 45 active running clubs, and has mounted 55 running events to date, reinforcing SM Supermalls’ position as a leading platform for the country’s growing running community.

SM2SM Run energizes Cebu’s running community

In Cebu, the SM2SM Run 2026 gathered 15,500 runners for its 14th year, marking historic highs for the event and reinforcing its place as one of the region’s biggest running events. Women made up 40% of participants, a record share that reflects the growing participation of women in the country’s running community.

The race connected two iconic landmarks, starting at SM Seaside City Cebu and finishing at SM City Cebu, turning the city into a high energy celebration of fitness and community.

The excitement extended beyond the finish line when one lucky participant won the grand raffle prize, a BYD Shark 6. The prize also reflects the growing shift toward electric mobility in the Philippines. Across more than 90 malls nationwide, SM Supermalls has built one of the country’s largest electric vehicle charging networks, allowing guests to conveniently charge their vehicles for free during mall hours while they dine, shop, or spend time with family. Through this integrated network, SM actively promotes the shift to cleaner mobility by making EV adoption more practical, accessible, and part of everyday consumer behavior.

The grand raffle winner, Desiree Villadolid, enjoyed a moment that perfectly matched the scale and excitement of the maxed-out SM2SM Run, adding another memorable highlight to race day.

Women’s Run celebrates strength and community

Meanwhile at SM Mall of Asia, 16,500 runners joined the 2026 Filipina CEO Circle (FCC) Women’s Run PH in celebration of International Women’s Day and Women’s Month. Of the total participants, 90% were women runners, highlighting the strong and growing movement of women embracing running as a lifestyle.

Now on its third year with FCC as title sponsor and SM Supermalls as co presenter, the run continues to grow as a national platform that promotes women’s health, empowerment, and community through running.

Thousands of women ran along the scenic seaside roads of SM Mall of Asia under the theme Strength, Grace, and Honor, creating an inspiring atmosphere of encouragement and shared achievement.

SM Active Hub anchors running communities

SM Active Hub, the sports and wellness platform of SM Supermalls that fosters active communities throughout its malls, supports these expanding events.

SM Supermalls continues to provide areas where runners may travel, interact, and fully enjoy life, from regular training routes to significant race weekends.

SM Supermalls is your favorite shopping center. Where community, lifestyle, and fully realized experiences come together. Everything is for you.

DTI and SM Supermalls Expand Their Collaboration to Support MSMEs’ Growth

“Apatnapu’t dalawa kaming kababaihan sa aming barangay na dati ay walang hanapbuhay. Sa tulong ng aming kooperatiba at ng DTI, nagkaroon kami ng pagkakataong kumita. Lalo na kapag nandito kami sa SM Supermalls—mas dumadami ang aming bulk orders.”
Elsie Balidiong, Salngan Livelihood Multi-Purpose Cooperative, Oton, Iloilo

The 2026 DTI–Bagong Pilipinas National Trade Fair, which brought together MSMEs, institutional buyers, and consumers in a highly accessible, high-engagement setting that transformed commerce into a shared public experience, came to an end at SM Megamall after five days of showcasing Filipino enterprise, creativity, and resilience.

DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque and DTI Assistant Secretary Nylah Bautista together with Embassy Officials and stakeholders mark the opening of the DTI Bagong Pilipinas National Trade Fair 2026, highlighting how accessible platforms like SM Supermalls help bring national initiatives closer to the public

DTI Key Officials mark the opening of the National Trade Fair 2026, highlighting how accessible platforms like SM Supermalls help bring national initiatives closer to the public.

The expo, which took place at Megatrade Halls 1-3 from February 18–22, 2026, offered business-matching possibilities, locally produced food, fashion, home, and lifestyle items, and carefully chosen displays that showcased sustainable manufacturing and sophisticated Filipino design. By increasing market access, fortifying value chains, and establishing avenues for MSMEs to grow, these on-the-ground initiatives aided the Bagong Pilipinas goal.

SM executives (L-R) Mr. Royston Cabunag, AVP for SM Communities Program, Ms. Liza Silerio, VP for Corporate Compliance Group, Ms. Pats Dy, SAVP for SM Communities Marketing try on hand-embroidered, fashion-forward pieces by an indigenous artisan from Abra—bringing stories from the mountains to the heart of the city. Through DTI and SM, indigenous MSMEs gain wider market access, celebrating culture, craftsmanship, and inclusive growth in one shared space.

“It’s rare to find a place where you can get the chance to buy the best of the Philippines, and it’s good that it’s in a very accessible location.”
-Ezekiel Rosales and Michelle Milla – Trade Fair Customers

“Nakakatuwa po na naipapakita namin ang aming mga gawa sa ibang lugar. Kasabay po noon ay kumikita pa kami.”
– Jezriff Anni – Zambulu Artworks

“Ang galing po kasi noon, doon lang kami sa bayan namin sa Aklan nakakapagbenta. Ngayon po, two years na kami nakakasali sa trade fairs and lumawak na po ang market namin. May mga orders na po kami galing sa ibang lugar.”
-Jezethel Bandiola – Bandiola’s Piña Weaving

The staging of the National Trade Fair at SM Megamall highlighted how well-loved, high-traffic urban spaces can function as effective platforms for national programs—giving MSMEs the opportunity to reach new markets, test products in real time, and engage directly with partners and consumers.

“Our partnership with SM goes beyond providing space—it is about building a full ecosystem for MSMEs. Through SM Supermalls and its retail businesses like SM Department Store, SM Markets, and Kultura, MSMEs are given real market access, visibility, and opportunities to scale. This kind of private-sector commitment is exactly what enables Filipino entrepreneurs to grow, professionalize, and contribute meaningfully to inclusive national development,” said Cris Roque, Secretary, Department of Trade and Industry

By supporting nationally significant trade fairs, SM Supermalls broadens MSME reach through accessible, high-visibility locations, supports business growth through professional environments designed for market readiness, and contributes to nation-building by aligning its mall infrastructure with programs that generate livelihood and strengthen local industries.

The National Trade Fair strengthened the idea that economic progress is most significant when it is inclusive, experiential, and closely linked to the people it serves by fostering a strong sense of shared purpose where trade, culture, and community came together.

As evidenced by the 2026 DTI–Bagong Pilipinas National Trade Fair, SM Supermalls continues to fulfill its promise of “All for You” by delivering on its commitment to Max Out Experiences. As your favorite mall, SM Supermalls transforms its spaces into dynamic platforms for entrepreneurship, cultural celebration, and meaningful public engagement that goes beyond retail to champion inclusive national growth and create experiences thoughtfully designed for every Filipino.

Take tiny measures to make a huge difference: SM Waste-Free Future offers practical solutions for a greener, cleaner world

The SM Waste-Free Future (WFF) Manual from SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SM Prime) has made it easier to contribute to the answer for improved waste management practices.

The 17-page visual guide, which was introduced during SM’s first Sustainability Expo, provides a straightforward and user-friendly resource on how anybody may interact with waste management touchpoints found at their favorite SM Supermalls.

“The easiest way to adopt sustainable practices is a two-pronged approach,” said SM Supermalls Vice President for Corporate Compliance and Sustainability, Liza Silerio. “The first is building the avenues that make waste management accessible and easy to do. The second is ensuring that these are easy habits to build and practice in our daily lives.”

The manual combines text and visuals to enhance the “Learn – Practice – Champion” workflow, a three-step approach to make these practices easy to adapt and eventually pass on, with additional green tips and trivia.  Understanding how even small, thoughtful steps can make a huge difference is key to helping reduce waste sent to landfills.

Back to Basics

To further understand the composition of our waste, SM Prime led a Waste Analysis Characterization Study (WACS) in its largest development–the SM Mall of Asia Complex. The top 10 most common waste items were identified:

  1. PET Bottles
  2. Plastic Cutlery
  3. Single-use plastic
  4. Plastic cups from coffee or milk tea
  5. Soiled coffee paper cups
  6. Soiled food containers
  7. Food packaging and sachets
  8. Soiled tissue or napkins
  9. Soiled diapers/ sanitary products
  10. Food waste

The SM Waste Free Future manual encourages everyone to properly dispose of waste by using designated Recyclable-Disposable-Compostable (RDC) bins made accessible in all SM Malls.

PET Bottles are categorized for the Blue “Recyclable” Bins to help return these to factories for recycling.

Disposable items and containers such as plastic cutlery, single-use plastic, plastic cups from coffee or milk tea, soiled coffee paper cups and food containers, food packaging and sachets, and soiled tissue or napkins, diapers, and sanitary products are for tossing into the gray “Disposable” Bins.

Finally, all food waste with no packaging and cutlery are guided to the green “Compostable” Bins.

As one of the fastest-growing solid waste streams in the world, Electronic Waste (E-Waste), ranging from batteries to broken gadgets and technological accessories, gets special mention. SM Supermalls promotes proper disposal of e-waste through special bins in SM Cyberzone areas as easy drop-off points for recycling or processing before disposal of small, used, and defective electronic devices.

Take-action, join the movement

Every first Friday and Saturday of the month from 10:00am to 2:00pm, mallgoers can bring their trash and convert it to cash. Trash-to-Cash encourages household segregation by bringing clean and dry recyclables in designated Trash-to-Cash areas in exchange for economic incentives. The program promotes sustainable systems and the advancement of the circular economy.

To further divert plastics from the environment, SM implements its Plastic Waste Collection program across all of its properties. Since its integration in 2019, 70,000 kilograms of clean, empty, and dry consumer plastics have been collected.

Regular coastal cleanups are arranged by SM Cares, the corporate social responsibility division of SM Prime, to help communities address the issue of marine pollution by eliminating debris before it spreads farther into the ocean. In addition to the weekly cleanups carried out by SM Estates, three significant coastal cleanups conducted countrywide last year allowed volunteers to divert 200,000 kg of marine debris from the ocean.

This year, on March 22, SM La Union, SM City Urdaneta Central, SM City Tanza, SM City J Mall, SM City Daet, and SM City Consolacion will participate in another Coastal Cleanup campaign in honor of World Water Day.

“Communicating waste management practices clearly and easily helps our stakeholders support our vision for a Waste Free Future. When we all come together and choose to help save our planet, even the smallest actions toward the right direction yield great results,” said Silerio.

Through the SM Green Movement, SM Prime champions sustainability by focusing on waste management, water stewardship, and energy efficiency for lasting impact. The movement empowers individuals, families, and communities to take part in simple acts that create shared prosperity for generations to come.

Empowering Artisans Through Creativity

Sustainable and timeless—these two words define the aesthetic of Sassy’s Creation Enterprise, a brand where traditional Philippine craftsmanship meets modern innovation. By blending heritage weaving techniques with contemporary design, Sassy’s Creation produces ethically curated fashion staples designed for EveryBODY, using upcycled fabrics and locally sourced weaves that reflect both sustainability and style.

Behind every Sassy piece are the skilled hands of women artisans, including home-based mothers and women from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Antipolo, Rizal, who carefully craft each item with dedication and pride. Through these collaborations, the brand provides meaningful livelihood opportunities while celebrating Filipino craftsmanship.

For the founder of Sassy’s Creation, entrepreneurship is not only about building a brand—it is also about uplifting communities. “Our goal is not only to create meaningful products but also to support local artisans and weaving communities across the country,” she shared.

From Survival to Strength

For Cebu-based entrepreneur Cuevas Planas, founder of Kirby’s Chicharon, her business journey represents resilience and the courage to start over.

“I started small, making chicharon and quietly selling to stores and offices. That small income became my hope and my courage—it helped me rebuild my life and prove that even from nothing, you can rise again,” she shared.

Through perseverance and faith, Planas built her brand from humble beginnings, eventually gaining the confidence to showcase her products in larger markets and trade fairs. Discover their products on Facebook: kirbyschicharonph

Through initiatives like the WomenBizPH Trade Fairs, SM Supermalls continues to serve as a marketplace where MSMEs can grow, gain visibility, and reach new markets.

“At SM Supermalls, we see MSMEs not just as exhibitors but as future brands in the making. By providing accessible platforms where entrepreneurs can showcase their products and connect with customers, we help nurture the next generation of Filipino brands,” said Joaquin San Agustin, Executive Vice President for Marketing at SM Supermalls.

Setting the stage at SM Supermalls for the major personalities of Mindanao

To be honest, Mindanao has never played a supporting role. We proceed with a certain assurance. We are astute, fearless, and certain of our goals. To reveal who the main character is, we don’t have to be loud.

And since we are aware of the iconic quality we offer, where do we spend our time? It must, however, stay up. The atmosphere, the spirit, the encounter. The good news is that fresh firsts are emerging throughout Mindanao, firsts capable of keeping up and setting the standard at your favorite mall, SM Supermalls—the mall of firsts.

The Opening Act: Serving Cravings And Lewks

Because once the plans are locked, it’s never just about the food. It’s about how you show up. The table becomes the backdrop, the look comes together, and suddenly your first act is in full motion

  • Soul Kitchen / Fast Fresh

Some scenes call for comfort, and at the first soon to open Soul Kitchen/Fast Fresh in SM at the expansion wing, level 1 of SM City Davao, that comfort is about to come plated just right. The Banana Pecan Pancake will bring that sweet, indulgent moment, while the White Chicken Rice can keep it classic and satisfying. Ez great food down, so you can keep your main character on.

  • King’s Feast

Some scenes call for royal treatment–and at the first soon to open King’s Feast in VisMin at the level 2 expansion wing of SM City Davao, it will begin with an all-you-can-eat spread fit for main characters who don’t do small portions. This is where plates will stay full and tables will feel like your own feasting hall. Because if you’re stepping out in full looks, the food should rise to the occasion.

The Second Take: Brewed and Booked

Every great story has an in-between moment, a pause before the climactic scenes–the kind where things slow down just enough for the main character to decide what happens next. At the 2nd level, expansion wing of SM City Davao, the first soon to open ZUS Coffee in Mindanao will offer exactly that kind of reset: good coffee, a solid spot to regroup, and just enough caffeine to cue the next scene.

The Turning Scene: Confidence In Center Frame

It’s time for your close-up with a glow up. At the lower ground level of SM Lanang, the first Idara Aesthetics in Davao will bring advanced aesthetic treatments closer so you can step into frame polished, confident, and fully in your main character energy.

The Final Shot: Go All Out, Icon

The first DJI in Northern Mindanao, located on the third floor of Cyberzone at SM CDO Downtown Premier, ensures that every main character has an excellent ending. Because the last frame has the power to elevate a good story into a masterpiece in every tale worth telling.

The scenes are set from the first act to the last shot; now it’s your turn. Because you don’t wait for the spotlight when you know you’re the main character. You enter it.

Energy of the main character? Completely safe—only at SM Supermalls, your favorite shopping center.

Stories from the SM Group Job Fair at SM North EDSA: Instant Jobs, Real Impact

“Hindi ko po akalain na matatanggap ako ngayon,” shared Felo Garcia, hired on the spot as a Sales Associate. “Salamat po SM dahil makaka-provide na ako sa mga pangangailangan ng anak ko at pamilya ko.”

Another hired-on-the-spot applicant, Joel Azores, emphasized the credibility and impact of the event, saying, “One hundred percent ka po matatanggap sa Mega Job Fair dahil puro legit na company dito.”

The annual SM Group Job Fair at SM City North EDSA once again proved to be a potent platform for linking Filipinos to actual and immediate employment prospects, with 25 participating firms, over a thousand job seekers, and 236, or 22%, employed on the spot.

The employment fair, which was organized by SM Retail, brought together enterprises from all of the SM Group’s various industries, including banking, real estate, food and beverage, logistics, education, and malls. The event produced good hiring outcomes, high intent, and high engagement in addition to significant foot traffic.

From application to employment—on the same day

One of the strongest highlights of the job fair was the number of applicants hired on the spot (HOTS), showcasing the efficiency and accessibility of SM’s hiring ecosystem.

For many job seekers, the experience was nothing short of life-changing. Through on-site interviews and real-time assessments, applicants were able to move quickly from application to employment—removing the long waiting periods often associated with traditional recruitment.

A job fair that works for real people

For many first-time job seekers and breadwinners, the SM Job Fair offered not just jobs—but relief, speed, and hope. “Makakatulong yung ganitong pa-event sa mga pamilya,” shared Joshua Bulauitan, hired on the spot as a Sales Clerk. “Kung wala kang trabaho at nagigipit ka na, pumunta ka lang dito—may instant trabaho ka.”

This immediate hiring momentum reflects SM Retail’s consistently strong hiring demand and absorption rates, ensuring that SM Job Fairs translate into real jobs—not just applications.

Employers meet job-ready talent, faster

Employers likewise cited the effectiveness of SM Job Fairs in reaching the right candidates efficiently.

“Sumali po kami dito because we are looking to hire more employees,” said Lyka Sababan of SM Appliance Center. “Alam po namin na maraming jobseekers ang pumupunta dito, and effective po talaga ang job fairs para sa mga companies na naghahanap ng new employees.”

Meanwhile, financial services firms highlighted the long-term success of hires from SM Job Fairs.

“The candidates we hired from our last job fair here at SM North EDSA have good profiles,” shared Tia Macatlang of BDO Life, “and we see that they are now successful financial advisers.”

Strengthening employment through public-private collaboration

The job fair was held in partnership with key government agencies, including the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO)—underscoring the value of public-private collaboration in employment generation.

“Malaki ang tulong ng SM Supermalls sa PESO at DOLE,” said Jon Tito, Group Leader of QC PESO. “Kinakalat nila ang opportunities para sa mga naghahanap ng trabaho.”

SM Government Service Express: making hiring easier, faster

To further simplify the employment journey, the job fair featured SM Government Service Express, a one-stop hub where applicants could process pre-employment requirements in one location.

Participating agencies included the Social Security System (SSS), Pag-IBIG Fund, PhilHealth, and the Philippine National Police for police clearance.

“Pinapadali ng ganitong job fairs ang mga oportunidad para sa jobseekers,” explained Adolf Hernandez of PhilHealth QC. “May hired on the spot ka na, at nandito na rin ang mga government agencies para sa requirements.”

SSS echoed this, emphasizing accessibility: “Importante na sumasali ang mga government agencies sa job fairs,” said Ava Michelle Estrella of SSS, “kasi on the spot, natutulungan namin ang applicants sa pagkuha ng requirements.”

Bringing opportunities closer, nationwide

Following the strong turnout at SM City North EDSA, SM Supermalls continues to bring job opportunities closer to Filipinos with a series of job fairs nationwide this March:

  • March 4– SM Center Antipolo
  • March 6– SM Mall of Asia
  • March 11– SM City Davao
  • March 13– SM City Trece Martires
  • March 20– SM City North EDSA
  • March 25– SM City Urdaneta Central
  • March 26 – SM City Tuguegarao
  • March 27– SM City Trece Martires
  • March 27– SM City Cauayan

Job seekers are encouraged to bring multiple copies of their resume, valid IDs, and other basic pre-employment requirements, and to arrive early to maximize interview opportunities. Admission to SM Job Fairs is free and open to the public, unless otherwise specified.

For updates on schedules and participating employers, applicants may visit SM Supermalls’ official social media pages or inquire at the customer service desk of participating malls.

Turning malls into platforms for opportunity

The continued success of the SM Job Fair highlights how the country’s most loved malls are evolving beyond retail becoming platforms that deliver real-world solutions for Filipinos.

SM Supermalls continues to maximize experiences by bringing together companies, job seekers, and government organizations in a single, easily accessible location, transforming malls into centers where professions start, requirements are fulfilled, and futures advance.

SM Supermalls’ Water Stewardship Journey Continues

Through its operational division, SM Supermalls, SM Prime Holdings Inc. (SM Prime) has continuously promoted responsible water stewardship for a more resilient water future for thirty years.

In the late 1990s, SM Prime and SM Southmall made an investment in the first Sewage Treatment Plant (STP). STPs are crucial for promoting community development and safeguarding the environment and public health. Since then, STPs have been a common feature in all 89 malls, protecting water resources and lowering pollution and water waste.

SM Supermalls embeds water conservation practices across its operations. Recycled water is used in water closets for flushing, cleaning, and watering greens. Additionally, efficient low-flow fixtures and water-saving technologies prevent unnecessary consumption at scale.

“SM had always been conscious of its environmental impact on shared social good. Our water journey is rooted in our commitment to maximize what we borrow from the environment, creating resiliency for future generations,” said Liza B. Silerio, SM Supermalls Vice President and Head of Sustainability and Resilience.

Today, SM is evaluating centralized STPs that can serve multiple developments and allow for inter-building treatment systems, lowering operational costs, and enhancing process efficiency. “Part of our water resilience framework is building long-term capacity for water disruptions. Since the standardization of STPs across our malls, SM took it a step further and scaled its water sustainability efforts,” said Silerio.

A first in the industry, SM City Baguio’s Rainwater Treatment Facility has already processed almost 20,000 cubic meters of rainwater into potable water since it was launched, providing 30% of the mall’s total monthly clean water requirement since 2023. This translates to saving the equivalent of 12.7 million, 1.5-liter mineral water bottles or almost eight Olympic-sized swimming pools of freshwater from the grid.

SM uses the mall’s national reach to further promote sustainable water use through regular engagement and awareness. Through its Corporate Social Responsibility division, SM Cares, SM develops public awareness and education programs to inspire future water stewards in the community.

The Bantayog ng Lawa Award from the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) and the first-ever Gawad Taga-Ilog Award given to a private organization by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are just two of the industry honours that SM malls have received as a result of their proactive and effective approach.

“We’ve come a long way since the 90’s. It’s heartwarming to be recognized by our community and peers, but we continue to work harder for future generations because water is a universal human right. By implementing these sustainability measures, SM aims to move forward with greater purpose and greater possibilities,” said Silerio.
