SPX Express and Shopee Collaborate on Disaster Preparedness Initiatives

Working together with local government units (LGUs) and nonprofit organizations, Shopee, the top e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, and SPX Express partnered from December 2024 to February 2025 to improve disaster preparedness and supply emergency necessities to communities in Meycauayan, Calamba, Naga, and Mandaluyong. This partnership ensured prompt and efficient aid distribution.

Shopee and SPX Express supplied relief bags filled with food, medicine, and hygiene necessities donated by brand partners such as Unilever, Mega Prime Foods Inc. (MPFI), Pharmaton Energy +, Hapee, Lysol, Tiny Buds, Sofy, Mamypoko, and Monde Nissin in order to meet the immediate needs of communities during emergencies. In order to improve emergency response efforts, SPX also gave rescue boats to local government units (LGUs). Shopee and SPX representatives, in addition to volunteers, actively participated in all phases of the relief efforts, from packaging to distribution, showcasing their dedication to volunteerism and positive social impact.

Local officials from each community expressed their support and appreciation for Shopee and SPX’s initiatives, emphasizing the crucial role these donations play in improving mobility and providing support during times of crisis. Mayor Ross Rizal of Calamba dubbed the donations as a ‘big step towards more efficient disaster response.’ At the same time, Councilor Charisse Marie Abalos-Vargas said that the donated goods would directly aid families currently seeking refuge in the Mandaluyong Evacuation Building.

Former Vice President and Angat Pinas, Inc. Chairperson Leni Robredo also expressed her gratitude for the donations towards her hometown of Naga City, recognizing Shopee and SPX’s support in strengthening the disaster response efforts of Angat Buhay, a non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting communities across the country.

“At Shopee, our commitment to supporting communities extends beyond our online platform,” says Vincent Lee, Head of Shopee Philippines. “Serving local communities is central to our mission. Through our Shopee Bayanihan program, we work closely with LGUs and other organizations to proactively address urgent needs, particularly in disaster-prone areas. We want Filipinos to know Shopee will be there for them, providing essential aid during emergencies and disasters.”

SPX Express Philippines Head Martin Yu also emphasized SPX Express’ commitment to providing reliable service even in times of disaster. “As a leading logistics provider, we recognize our critical role in ensuring the swift and efficient delivery of emergency relief to affected communities. These rubber boats serve as vital assets for mobility during typhoons, enabling effective disaster response. By donating them to flood-prone areas, we reinforce our dedication to providing uninterrupted logistical support to Filipinos, regardless of the challenges.”

Shopee and SPX Express are still dedicated to using programs rooted in the spirit of bayanihan to elevate Filipinos, especially during times of crisis. These initiatives also help them provide heartfelt service and cement their alliances with brands that share their values.

Rock Opong’s latest single, “Marahuyo,” marks their official debut, transforming them from music hopeful to promising star

The track introduces Rock Opong as a promising singer-songwriter and producer

With his official debut as a recording artist who not only performs but also composes and produces his own songs, Rock Opong is making a daring foray into the music industry.

Rock Opong, who is from Iloilo City, has had a difficult path. He came from modest roots and spent years trying to break into the local music scene, frequently encountering obstacles that almost caused him to give up. When all hope seemed lost, destiny stepped in: he was discovered by coincidence meeting Balcony Entertainment, which led to a record deal and management contract with Sony Music Entertainment.

For his first official single, the 19-year-old crooner embraces a more soulful direction on “Marahuyo,” pouring his heart into every lyric and melody of the material. Penned by Rock Opong himself, the song captures the intense emotions of longing for someone and passionately pursuing love against all odds.

“That inspired me to create a song with a similar emotional depth, one that speaks to the beauty and intensity of love,” the rising solo artist admits. “My music has always been rooted in acoustic pop, but with this song, I wanted to explore something new—modern R&B. This genre has a smoothness and depth that allows emotions to flow effortlessly, making every note feel like a reflection of love itself.”

Rock Opong produced the song with the invaluable help of Rico Blanco, whose expertise and guidance played a critical role in shaping its final sound. For the promising multi-hyphenate, the goal was clear: to deliver a simple yet captivating R&B ballad that allows raw emotions and vulnerability to shine through.

“I want to strike a perfect balance where the melody and instrumentation enhance the song’s message without overpowering it,” says the charming newcomer. “I wanted every note, every chord, and every beat to complement the lyrics in a way that makes listeners feel the depth of the song’s meaning.”

Beyond “Marahuyo” Rock Opong is actively writing new material, acknowledging that there’s so much work to be done and stories to be told. He is passionate about the creative process behind music and is currently preparing for the release of his upcoming tracks.

“My music has undergone a paradigm shift—it’s something fresh, different, and unlike anything I’ve done before,” says the talented newcomer. ‘This evolution allows me to express myself in a way that truly reflects who I am as an artist. I can’t wait to share my growth, my sound, and my story with the world.”

Marahuyo by Rock Opong is currently available on all digital music platforms across the globe through Sony Music Entertainment. Keep an eye out for the “Marahuyo” music video on Rock Opong’s official YouTube channel.

Rex Education Celebrates 75 Years of Commitment to Education at AECON 2025

Ms. Amy Berry (Director, EngagED Consulting, Author of Reimagining Student Engagement: From Disrupting to Driving) and Atty. Dominador Buhain (Chairman & President, Rex Education)

Rex Education marked its 75th anniversary at AECON 2025, held on January 16-17 at the Gallio Events Hall in Parañaque. The theme, celebrating 75 Years of Commitment to Quality Education: Seamless and Meaningful Learning Experiences Through Assessment, Intervention, and Enrichment, highlighted the company’s dedication to education. Nearly 1,000 educators, school leaders, and stakeholders attended the two-day event, which focused on addressing key educational challenges through insightful discussions and knowledge-sharing.

Gathering of Change Makers in Education

Each year, AECON addresses pressing issues in education, equipping teachers and leaders with valuable insights and solutions. This year, as part of its 75th anniversary, the focus is on creating seamless and meaningful learning experiences for every learner and educator.

In his opening remarks, REX COO Roger John Y. Fontelera highlighted that education is not a one-size-fits-all approach. He stated, “This year’s AECON isn’t about giving ready-made solutions. Instead, it’s about creating a space for reflection, learning, and collaboration. We want to provide you with stepping stones—resources, strategies, and ideas—that you can adapt to meet the specific needs of your schools, communities, and learners.”

Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary Peter Irving Corvera delivered a keynote address emphasizing the urgency of preparing Filipino learners for an increasingly digital world. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to developing future-ready learners by integrating technology, enhancing critical thinking, and strengthening public-private collaborations.

One key session featured a panel discussion with respected education experts and policymakers:

  • Karol Mark Yee, Executive Director o of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM
  • Dina Joana Ocampo, Professor at the University of the Philippines and former DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Teaching
  • Rhodora Ferrer, Executive Director of the Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC)
  • Joseph Noel Estrada, Legal Counsel of the Coordinating Council of Private Educational Associations (COCOPEA)

Moderated by Dr. Edizon Fermin, Vice President for Academic Affairs at National Teachers College, the discussion focused on improving learning outcomes in the Philippines. It emphasized evidence-based policy decisions, stronger accountability among education leaders, and the importance of authentic assessments to accurately measure student progress.

In the afternoon, Dr. Amy Berry, Director of EngagED Consulting, led a plenary session on student engagement. She challenged traditional approaches and introduced innovative methods that empower both teachers and students to co-create meaningful learning experiences.

A Moment of Gratitude and the Symphony of Learning

The second day of AECON began with a Thanksgiving Mass celebrated by Most Reverend Jesse Mercado, Bishop of Parañaque, reflecting on the journey of Rex Education and its mission to support Filipino education.

Mr. Don Timothy Buhain (Chief Executive Officer, Rex Education), Dr. Karol Mark Yee (Executive Director, 2nd Congressional Commission on Education – Phils) and Atty. Dominador Buhain (Chairman & President, Rex Education)

After the mass, REX CEO Don Timothy Buhain introduced the Symphony of Learning Solutions, a suite of educational resources supporting lifelong learning, from early childhood to professional development. This initiative highlights REX’s commitment to integrating assessment, intervention, and enrichment for educators and learners.

Buhain compared learning to a symphony, where every effort, resource, and voice comes together to create something meaningful. He assured, “The symphony will improve—with practice, continuous learning, change, and execution. In the future, there will be additions when they are necessary. We will listen and count on our Edukampyon community, including the voice of our learners.”

The Symphony of Learning Solutions includes lesson exemplars, learning instruments, digital platforms like Schoology, and targeted assessments to ensure well-rounded education at every stage.

A Unified Pledge for Quality Education

As the congress concluded, a spirit of unity filled the hall as attendees stood for the Edukampyon Pledge. Led by Jeanne Marie Tordesillas, Chief Marketing Officer of REX, this solemn moment reaffirmed the commitment of educators and education stakeholders to advancing quality education, advocating for policies that support meaningful learning, and prioritizing the best interests of Filipino learners.

75 Years and Beyond: The Edukampyon Commitment

Reaching 75 years is a testament to Rex Education’s dedication to every learner and educator it has served. The journey continues.

Dr. Edizon Fermin (Vice President for Academic Affairs, National Teachers College), Dr. Dina Joana Ocampo (Professor, UP College of Education, Former Undersecretary of Curriculum & Instruction, DepEd), Ms. Rhodora Angela Ferrer (Executive Director, Private Education Assistance Committee – PEAC), Atty. Dominador Buhain (Chairman & President, Rex Education), Atty. Joseph Noel Estrada (Legal Counsel for COCOPEA, Managing Partner of Estrada & Aquino Law, Education Law expert) and Mr. Don Timothy Buhain (Chief Executive Officer, Rex Education)

In his message of gratitude, REX Chairman and President Atty. Dominador Buhain thanked all the Edukampyons and shared, “Seventy-five years, and our work is not yet done. The future demands more from us, and we accept that challenge with open hearts and minds… We vow to continue listening, learning, and innovating to provide high-quality learning solutions for every Filipino learner.”

As Rex Education looks beyond 75 years, its commitment remains—to be the trusted katuwang of every Filipino educator, school, and learner, fostering lifelong learning for generations—para sa bata, para sa mamamayan, para sa bayan, for life.

Minsan Studio presents Minsan Fest, a student-focused summer celebration

The outdoor festival aims to provide an affordable and inclusive live music experience for the most passionate supporters of local artists

Minsan Studio (stylized as ‘minsan studio’), an independent events production firm, is preparing for the May 17, 2025, launch of their own music festival, Minsan Fest, at Quezon City Memorial Circle.

The festival, which begins at 2:00 PM, is especially made to be accessible to young fans and students.

The Itchyworms, Mayonnaise, Ebe Dancel, Zild, Autotelic, Reese Lansangan, Clara Benin, TONEEJAY, SUD, thesunmanager, and Minaw are among the well-known and up-and-coming local musicians on the program for the inaugural Minsan Fest.

According to minsan studio head Jason Conanan, the event aims to provide an affordable and inclusive live music experience, particularly for students who are often the most passionate supporters of local artists.

“We have always done our best to make things accessible for the most hardcore fans, and we believe the students are the heart of that,” says Conanan. “They are the key to long-term careers for creatives, as they are the ones who actively engage with the artists and the music, share them with their friends, and once they enter the workforce, continue to support their favorites throughout their careers. We want to create an event that allows them to experience a festival of this scale without having to ask their parents for extra money.”

What sets Minsan Fest from other music festivals is its egalitarian approach to artist billing. Instead of emphasizing headliners, the festival treats all performers as equals, recognizing that each artist brings a unique fanbase and presence to the stage.

“There is no headliner because we believe every artist in our lineup has their own following,” Conanan explains. He also highlights the festival’s commitment to documentation, ensuring that performances are captured as a valuable marketing tool for bands to expand their reach and pitch for future festivals and opportunities.

In line with its commitment to accessibility and sustainability, minsan studio is launching the minsan pass, an eco-friendly digital pass available in the form of a lanyard or bag tag. The pass, priced at PHP 349 for attendees aged 24 and below and PHP 699 for adults, serves as a scannable contact card that grants entry to Minsan Fest and future events hosted by the production outfit.

“The minsan pass will act as a gateway to our future events, whether it’s a gig, workshop, concert, or possibly another music festival,” Conanan shares. “It also provides early access for updates about our upcoming shows and projects.”

The municipal administration of Quezon City and Minsan Fest collaborate to provide performances with as little of an impact on the environment as possible. “In keeping with that, we made the decision to introduce a method to make things a bit more sustainable,” Conanan adds.

You can purchase Minsan Fest tickets at www.minsan.studio.

Ventura expressed her deep gratitude to Eheads fans for their unwavering support.

“The positive response and support have been overwhelming and humbling,” she shared. “I’m filled with so much gratitude.  I hope more people get to see the film. I hope it does for them what it did for me. This is not just a music story; it’s our story. This is for all of us.”

David Archuleta’s new song, “Crème Brulée,” is now available – here

WATCH THE “Crème Brulée” video here

Singer-songwriter David Archuleta is back with his first taste of new music and what is sure to be his most delicious pop confection of a song with his new single, “Crème Brulée.” Written by David, Ryan Nealon, and Robyn Dell’Unto, and produced by Michael Blum, the sweet and seductive song is the first single off David’s upcoming EP, which will be released this summer.

“Crème Brulée,” a lighthearted and enticingly flirtatious pop hit that showcases David Archuleta’s remarkable vocal range and Latin heritage like never before, marks the beginning of a daring new era.

David blends English and Spanish in a way that feels as smooth and addictive as the namesake dessert. “All this time I’ve been singing Spanish covers, but I’ve never had that Spanish flair in my own pop music. I wanted to get in touch with my Latin roots, have fun, be flirty, and explore the sensual side of David.”

With infectious energy and a hint of Latin flair, “Crème Brulée” is a confident, fun-loving track that showcases David’s evolution as an artist—sultry, charismatic, and completely in his element.

With smooth, dynamic vocals and a hook that sticks like caramelized sugar, David teases the listener—giving just enough to leave them wanting more. “Someone was really after me and wanted everything from me right away, but you’ve gotta work for it if you want more from me. You may have had a taste that makes you go crazy (“yo te vuelvo loco” is “I make you crazy” in Spanish), but I’m not going to give it all just yet unless you’re really worth my time and it’s worthwhile for me.”

“Crème Brulée” has all the ingredients to be a pop anthem for the year and is too irresistible to listen to just once.

Additionally, the official “Crème Brulée” music video can be found HERE. Nathan Kim, who has worked on projects for Charli XCX, David Guetta, and Lady Gaga, is the director of the edgy and intricately choreographed dance video. It shows David expressing his passion for dancing with the JA Collective dance trio. “The Crème Brulée video was so much fun to make with the choreography and a new creative release for me. I’ve always loved moving to music and so the more I’ve taken choreography/dance classes I’ve found a better outlet to feel liberated and express myself. Working with Aidan, Jordan, and Nathan Kim introduced me to a new style that was really satisfying. Dancing brings me a newfound confidence, and makes me feel like I’m more in touch with my body and sensuality,” states David.
