‘ALONE’: Dominic Chin struggles with anxiety

Dominic Chin, Singapore pop artist has released ALONE, the 6th single from his upcoming debut EP License To Cry, via Singapore indie label Umami Records. The singer-songwriter lays bare his struggles with anxiety disorder.

The acclaimed Singapore-based artist also clarifies that ALONE is not a song meant to uplift anybody. “It’s a song to let people who struggle with anxiety issues like me to know that they are not alone, and that I too struggle with it on a day to day basis and I’m still here.”

Dom

“Dear don’t let me go, let me go tonight,” he pleads desperately in the chorus, accompanied by a minimalist, gentle electro-pop beat that gives the track its melancholic, intimate vibe. ALONE takes a step back from the dance floor and finds a way to reflect on life decisions cautiously, without resorting to self-sabotage.

“The song is about my anxiety order and how it affects all the relationships in my life,” Dominic Chin shares in a statement. “Finding love and peace with good healthy relationships but feeling tremendously undeserving of it, resulting in me wanting to sabotage the relationship. The song talks about feeling conflicted about my relationships, being totally defeated and yearning for some help while I fight my battles with feeling disorientated by all that is going on in my mind.”

Dominic Chin’s debut EP License To Cry is scheduled for release on 9 October 2020, followed by his debut show at the Esplanade Singapore on 26 December 2020.

R&B trio brb. sets the stage for their sophomore EP, with debut track “my type”

Singaporean R&B trio brb, returns just months after the release of their debut album, now with their brand new single,“my type”— out on all digital and streaming platforms worldwide today Friday,  August 21, 2020.

Beyond the suggestive title, “my type” alludes to navigating the feelings that come with loving someone. Messages of acceptance and understanding are accompanied by a wistful chorus set against a tropical beat that is sure to leave you bopping.

Steeped in radiant electronic beats and soulful production, brb.’s latest jam brims with experiments gone right. But make no mistake: it’s a song that grapples with optimism—the kind that surges with both finesse and adrenaline, but delivered with the occasional oddity that we’ve come to experience from the alt-R&B group’s previous material.

“We hope to introduce a different energy into our upcoming releases. Our EP  relationsh*t was rather somber and we wanted to write happier songs this time round. We’re excited for you to hear what we have in store this year.”

“my type” is taken off  brb’s upcoming sophomore EP which is slated for release in 2021.

Lyrics of “my type”

Verse 1:
Don’t let nobody say you psycho
Even when you’re on tightrope
They don’t know that it’s the pain for something else
What a shame they couldn’t paint it on themselves,
Take a second on me.

Pre-Chorus:
It’s a habit when it’s old
When you get up in the middle of the night.
Feel like you’re losing control,
You know it gon be like

Chorus:
Yeah you feel right
I can’t define it for ya.
You get my vibe
Like no one else before ya
Yeah you feel right
There’s just something about ya
You’re my type, you’re my… you’re my

Verse 2:
Don’t you think i notice that
You’ve been keepin that distance yeah
You know i don’t mind if you’re candid,
With you i feel like I am blinded yea
We go dumb de de dumb dumb
Feel so faded now,
We’ve been down de de down down
And now I’m walking on tightrope waiting for ya.

Pre-chorus:
It’s a habit when it’s old (Oh)
When you get up in the middle of the night. (Middle of the night)
Feel like you’re losing control,
You know it gon be like

Chorus:
Yeah you feel right (You feel right)
I can’t define it for ya. (No i can’t define you)
You get my vibe ( ahh yea)
Like no one else before ya
Yeah you feel right (You feel right)
There’s just something about ya
You’re my type, you’re my… you’re my
You’re my type, you’re my, you’re my

Debut single of Nobody’s Home: “12:00 (Midnight)” ‘80s-inspired anthem’

Stream 12:00 (Midnight) here.

Nobody’s Home, Filipino three-piece band reinvents ‘80s nostalgia with modern synth-pop sheen on their debut single “12:00 (Midnight).  Available today on all digital platforms worldwide via Sony Music. “12:00 (Midnight)” is their first single as an artist and Eon stresses that the band is very excited and looking forward to working with the major record label. “We feel that at this point in our lives, we should grab every opportunity for us to showcase our talent and message through a platform everyone is familiar with.”

Plumbing greater heights with pulsating synth melodies and cinematic flourishes, the indie rock trio’s maiden song evokes the hallmarks of a generation who grew up on Back To The Future and Dungeons and Dragons, while setting its sights on darker, more subdued production.

Nobody’s Home picture

According to Eon Buendia, the song revolves “around the idea of separation and someone comparing themselves, thinking they’re nothing but a burden on their partner who seems to be of importance.”

Drummer and co-songwriter Moon Cairo Peralta also shares the reason behind their latest song: “It’s called ‘12:00 (Midnight)’ because midnight for us signifies that odd time between the day before and the next day to come. The time where everything around you seems calm which gives way to the anxiety that comes crawling in. It talks about starting may be right back where you started from or anew even if you have no idea it’s already started.”

“12:00 (Midnight)” started out as a gauzy instrumental piece produced by Moon Cairo Peralta. Cairo points out, “I was inspired by listening to a lot of the bands who used synths in the 80s. With writing Midnight in particular, I wanted to incorporate synths that’ll establish the overall mood and groove of the production.”

The young musician sent the track to Eon Buendia, who wrote the lyrics and melodies, and to Justin Punzalan, who added guitar lines that according to him, “were placed in a way that it would complement instead of overpower not just the vocals but the track itself.”

The end result mirrors the three-piece collective’s thrilling retro-futurist experimentation, while careful not to sacrifice the incredible pop sensibilities that define their signature sound.

Taps into nostalgic and TikTok chart-topper Sabby Sousa drops new R&B single“Emerald”

Sabby Sousa

Sabby Sousa, the Toronto-based artist takes the spotlight and exhilarating on her new single “Emerald.” She is no longer a stranger to the digital music realm. Her effervescent pop smash “Cream N’ Frosting” became a viral hit more than two million streams on all music platforms on both Spotify and iTunes Philippines and the rest of Asia. It charted inside the top 50 for weeks due to its unexpected popularity on short form video platform, TikTok.

Among the Filipino celebrities who joined the dance craze are Hello Stranger star Tony Labrusca, GMA 7 actor Miguel Tanfelix, alt-rock icon Rico Blanco, actress and social media influencer Chie Filomeno, YouTube sensation Mona Alawi, and teen star Jillian Ward.

Despite its openness to tackle a romantic relationship gone astray, the smooth R&B song inhabits an optimistic headspace that values emotional maturity over impulsive demeanor. And after a short hiatus, the hyper-pop hitmaker returns this year with a nostalgic R&B single that tackles a story of romantic relationship gone astray. Her new single “Emerald” available now on all digital platforms worldwide.

Sabby shares the inspiration behind her new track. “I had gone through a breakup and didn’t want to write anything sad or angry. I wanted to remember what it felt like in those moments and hold them close. It reminded me that not all relationships are meant to last forever. What lasts forever is the memories you make. So live life to the fullest.”

Produced by French Canadian electronic duo House of Wolf, “Emerald” inhabits an optimistic headspace that values emotional maturity over impulsive demeanor. With her syrupy vocals complementing the track’s atmospheric sonic backdrop, Sabby remembers her past relationship fondly, setting aside bitterness for a peace of mind.

This time, she mines a wistful narrative straight from a journal entry: confessional in form and function, but also hopeful in the way it was written and delivered. “There’s a lot of electric guitar and synths that make the song so dreamy,” Sabby Sousa adds. “I would definitely say, it’s a lot different to previous songs as it marks the beginning of a new sound for me.”

Recorded in August last year, the infectious jam sounds like a star turn from a young artist who is now ready to take the spotlight and make a lightning strike, one more time.

Choose Your Own Adventure Music Video: jaye interactive for ADHD

jaye a Singapore-based artist has finally dropped the interactive music video to his new single “ADHD.” A-D-H-D cycle are: Attention, Depression, Hit, and Dip, represents the vicious-affective cycle experienced by artist, jaye in his bygone days as a hustling DJ. These were the formulaic-four that spun the cycle led headfirst by intoxication and party highs. All jaye could yearn for at the end was escape from its cyclical gravity. The genre-fluid single was recently released on 31 July – but that was just the shallows. Today, jaye drafts audiences into a rip-tide of immersive experiences with a powerful interactive Music Video.

Inspired by Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,”jaye starts off at the deep end experimenting with the deconstruction of song and video structure to come up with the time-space defying Music Video (MV). The free-form MV is fitted much like Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch which gives users an illusion of control. Audiences get to choose their own adventure from four options (Attention – Depression – Hit – Dip) whilst vicariously living through experiences adapted from jaye’s own memories. The first chapter ends in two options (Ascend and Descend) and from there the viewer controls the narrative, or at least that’s what they think.

The postmodern video is a hands-on representation of the true viciousness of the ADHD cycle. Viewers will feel the same burden that jaye did as he realized that partying did not empower him; rather, it proved a great hindrance to his mental health and life. jaye’s MV is a psychedelic cyberpunk microcosm with nostalgic video game elements and hair-raising horror features. Parts of the MV are also interwoven with the MVs from his former future-past releases via meta space-time warps.

With command of the concept, “the game of life”, jaye will release an 8-bit 2D Instagram filter game called HIT which will allow users to continue to engage with his Super Mario-esquehellscape (as seen in the MV). Fans will have to blink to shoot oncoming enemies with lasers in a side-scrolling virtual landscape, sound tracked by the ‘Hit’ section of the ADHD track. Prizes will be given away to those with high scores.

This track comes after the stratospheric success of previous singles ‘TOMORROW’ and ‘DEJAVU’. Both Music Videos received over half a million Youtube views after just one month, no doubt owing to their conceptual depth and edge.

Joji collaborates with Diplo on music video, “DAYLIGHT”

Daylight cover art copy

The team up of Joji with Diplo for their new collaboration called “Daylight,” the latest single from his highly anticipated new album Nectar, due out on September 25 through 88rising, distributed by 12Tone Music. You can watch “Daylight” here: https://88rising.lnk.to/Daylight/youtube

Just in time for the dog days of summer, this midtempo anthem sets Joji’s lulling vocals against Diplo’s crisp production to create a hazy, shapeshifting aural mirage.

Diplo & Joji

The vibrant music video for “Daylight,” directed by MunachiOsegbu (Megan Thee Stallion’s “Hot Girl Summer” video), finds Joji and Diplo tasting the high life of a boy band: as struggling PAs on a 90s music video shoot.

The two daydreamers bumble around the set and ultimately derail the shoot of the young (at heart) pop divas.

“Daylight” is the fourth pre-release track from Nectar. It follows Gold-certified single “Sanctuary” and his first 2020 single “Run,” which earned Joji his highest-ever entry on the Billboard Hot 100 and his television debut on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon; and second single “Gimme Love” which Complex hailed as “a stickypop anthem with haunting vocals.” Last month, Joji also released a tingly and transformative remix of “GimmeLove” by Channel Tres.

On the song, Joji says, “It might be nice for people to hear a song about daylight, especially when we don’t get as much of it as we used to,” and on the collaboration, Diplo says “Joji is one of my favorite artists. I’m lucky he answered my text!”

The Itchyworms “Waiting For The End To Start” virtual album launch

The Itchyworms banner

The Itchyworms to launch quarantine-themed album with a virtual event is presented by Sony Music Philippines, GNN Entertainment, and Linya-Linya. Also celebrate the release of their highly anticipated fifth album, “Waiting For The End To Start.”

A few hours before the 9-track album drops on digital platforms worldwide, the acclaimed pop-rock outfit is set to debut the songs for the very first time through an online listening and live commentary party, which will be streamed live via The Itchyworms’ official Facebook page on August 17, (Monday), from 7:30 pm onwards.

The Itchyworms

Expect a night of fun and entertainment as The Itchyworms perform select cuts from their upcoming release, and promise music listeners to deliver a riveting music experience like no other.

About the album

The Itchyworms’ upcoming studio album, Waiting For The End To Start was conceptualized and recorded with the members of the band confined in their respective homes during the nationwide lockdown.

Thematically, the songs are written as a reflection of their individual and collective experiences during the quarantine period. It also inhabits a more adventurous and relentless approach in terms of production and songwriting, which produced captivating end results that music fans will surely love.

As Chino Singson, the band’s lead guitarist and back-up vocalist, shares in a statement, “Like any collection of music, it is a record of its time: A snapshot of the artist’s reaction to his or her circumstances. But it’s a concept album in that our aim was to create art in the midst of a pandemic, to capture our emotions in the music we record, even with the limited recording gear we have at home. So you’ll hear amp buzz and imperfect vocals, but for me that’s part of the spirit of true rock.”
