“Superfoods and Umami: A Dream Team for Nutrition”

Recipes that are sure to welcome Nutrition Month in a hearty, delicious, and nutritious way!

Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) is thrilled to present dishes throughout nutrition month that will pack July full of flavor without sacrificing the nutritional content of any meal. The combination of superfoods with the umami flavor—one of the basic five tastes, along with sweet, sour, salty, and bitter—would be a match made in heaven for obtaining the ideal amount of nutrients while also indulging in such delectable cuisine. The word “umami” in Japanese refers to a flavorful, savory taste. It is sometimes described as a savory, meaty goodness that enhances the flavor of each bite.

Gourmet cuisine is frequently described as flavorful and delectable, but can the same be said of superfoods? Though flavor-wise, these food kinds are not as well-liked, they do offer other advantages such as nutrients that prevent heart disease and cancer-fighting capabilities. If you’re wondering why they’re so frequently referred to as “superfoods,” it’s because they have more benefits than merely satisfying hunger. Superfoods are rich in fiber, phytochemicals, and antioxidants that support and feed your body, according to study.

Luckily here in the country, these superfoods are easy to find, convenient to grow, and readily available anywhere. Considering that here in the Philippines, there is always a local store or sari-sari store that carry them as products. Examples of these superfoods  found locally are moringa leaves or known locally as malunggay, guava, or bayabas, calamansi, sitaw, pomelo or suha among many others.

With all these superfoods found ready and available locally, there’s just no excuse not to live a life where you’re not able to Eat Well and Live Well. Just be sure that you are  well stocked with these superfoods!

Here are some recipes you can use for your next family meal,  baon at work, or even just  a simple dish preparation to satisfy your random cravings.

Orange Tofu with SARSAYA® Oyster Sauce

Those who love the Chinese restaurant staple orange chicken or lemon chicken are in for a treat with this recipe! You can begin with your sliced tofu cubes as you coat them with cornstarch,  salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Make sure to coat all sides! That will ensure that perfect crunch! Afterwards, you may now concoct your special orange sauce by heating cooking oil and sautéing the garlic. Add orange juice and our SARSAYA® OYSTER SAUCE, give it a whisk until well incorporated. Add cornstarch and water mixture to thicken sauce and set aside.

Now we make our tofu crispy! In a deep pan, heat oil and deep fry coated tofu cubes until crunchy. Finally, we mix cooked tofu onto the orange saucepan. Garnish with sesame seeds and spring onions. Then transfer this perfect meat alternative dish onto a serving plate and enjoy!

Cheese and Malunggay Fish Fillet Rolls

Ah, a fried dish that everyone will surely find joy in preparing and devouring. Who doesn’t like fried rolls? It’s time you add Cheese and Malunggay Fish Fillet Rolls to your mastered recipes because this dish  was made for people of all ages. Your cooking adventure begins by seasoning cream dory with garlic, ginger, AJI-GINISA®, parsley, and lemon. Let it marinate for at least 10 minutes. Our cream dory fish filets will absorb the meaty-gisa taste from our AJI-GINISA®. Once you’re through with the first step, it’s now time to roll by placing mozzarella and malunggay leaves in the middle of the fish filets and roll. Time to get that crunch! To achieve this, you must make sure that you coat fish filet rolls with flour, egg then breadcrumbs well, before your last and final step, deep fry, and serve! Now fried food lovers have their own favorite sauce pairing, and with this dish, ketchup, mustard, or maybe even sweet & sour sauce should do it!

Sinigang na Bangus sa Bayabas

Tamarind for souring agent? Done that. Vinegar as a sour base? Love that. But do you know what special souring agent you can try? Ripe guava or hinog na bayabas is waiting to be your grand champion for these types of dishes! But we’re sharing an exclusive tip for you guys, sour soups or bases can be leveled up by adding AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning! To prepare, begin by boiling water in a pot. Place ripe guava, tomato, and whole peppercorn and cook until you can mush it with fork. Add the bangus to the pot and cook for 10 minutes. Add fish sauce then boil for another 5 minutes. Drop the okra, green chillies, and kangkong leaves to the pot. Season with AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning. Finally, close the lid and let it rest for 5 minutes before transferring onto a serving bowl for everyone to savor!

Umami and superfoods are indeed a formidable pair for meals that are supposed to make you feel good and nourish your body. These recipes are up to you to modify, and you can do it even after Nutrition month because superfoods are abundant in our homeland, and Ajinomoto products that carry the umami flavor are definitely easy to find, it’s so easy that even your nearest sari-sari store or community store has it.

In honor of the global commemoration of Nutrition Month, APC would like to share with you some simple dishes that we hope will become a regular feature in your home. Naturally, with a personal touch! Philippines, happy Nutrition Month!

Global superstar Madison Beer, nominated for a Grammy, releases “15 MINUTES”

With the release of her new music video and track, “15 MINUTES,” Madison Beer is extending her summertime dominance. Both are accessible right now. Madison Beer most famously teased “15 MINUTES” during her recent performance at Jimmy Kimmel Live Outdoor Stage, and she also included a brief snippet at the end of her most recent video, “Make You Mine.” Her fans were ecstatic to see the teases, which they watched on social media a few times, with over three million views. The exciting new album is currently accessible for viewing and streaming.

[Watch: Madison Beer, “15 MINUTES”]

[Get: Madison Beer, “15 MINUTES”]

Madison Beer tells a romantically exciting story in “15 MINUTES” that simultaneously evokes sentiments of joy and deep interest. Directed by Madison Beer and Aerin Moreno, the cinematic video feature picks up the storytelling motif from Madison Beer’s previous video work, with Beer at the center of an intensely stressful escape room scene.

15 minutes ago I was laying in bed / Then I had a crazy thought in my head / So I took the keys and got in the car / Don’t know how I got here but baby here we are,she sings, meshing the lyrics with the unpredictable atmosphere of her new video. Viewers will need to buckle in.

“15 MINUTES” follows Madison Beer’s immensely successful last single, “Make You Mine,” which ascended to the #1 slot on the Billboard Dance Airplay charts in May, marking her first-career chart-topper as a solo artist. Its video, a feature inspired by the cult classic film Jennifer’s Body, earned Beer critical acclaim from outlets like Uproxx and Billboard, who raved of Beer’s dedication to creativity and intentional nostalgia.

It’s been quite a year already for Madison Beer, who received her first-career GRAMMY nomination at this year’s ceremony in February, a “Best Immersive Album” nod for her sophomore LP, Silence Between Songs. Subsequently, she released “Make You Mine,” a certified Dance hit, and just weeks later in April, she embarked on her 52-date Spinnin Tour, and released the “Make You Mine” video just before the first night of the tour’s North American leg.

During this run, Beer sold out the legendary Radio City Music Hall and Greek Theater venues, creating viral moments to last for her highly engaged audience, evoking headlines and in-depth coverage from Teen Vogue, Miami New Times, Vegas Sun and more. Most importantly, the live trek allowed her to reach her fans in ways Beer had been yearning to.

“I want to be honest with people. I feel like that’s why I have such a strong connection with my fans, because I am honest with them, and I want them to know that it’s not all just sunshine and rainbows.” she told Teen Vogue, which attended Beer’s performance at this year’s JBL Fest in Beer’s home state of New York.

Next up: a quick tour of Asia and Australia, which will take place between August 17 and September 2, starting on August 17 at the Tokyo Summer Sonic Festival in Japan and ending on September 2 in Melbourne, Australia, with stops in Singapore, Brisbane, and Indonesia along the way. You can get tickets here. The itinerary for the entire excursion is below:

Aug 17: Tokyo Summer Sonic Festival – Tokyo, Japan

NutraHealthyGut: Revolutionizing Gut Health for All Ages

The state of one’s gut affects every aspect of one’s health, including immunity, digestion, and mental state. Aiming to improve digestive health and encourage a healthy lifestyle for the whole family, NutraHealthyGut presents its line of probiotic and prebiotic supplements in recognition of the significance of a balanced gut flora.

Nutrient absorption, effective food digestion, and immune system maintenance are all aided by a healthy gut flora. On the other hand, digestive problems like diarrhea, constipation, and bloating, as well as more serious ailments like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), can result from poor gut health. A healthy stomach can also have a good impact on mood and cognitive function because of the gut-brain connection. Making gut health a priority is necessary for living a longer, happier life.

Understanding Gut Health

Gut health is influenced by various factors such as diet, age, medication, sleep, exercise, stress, and lifestyle choices. High-fiber foods, fruits, vegetables, and fermented foods promote healthy gut bacteria. However, aging, medications, poor sleep, high stress, lack of exercise, smoking, excessive alcohol, and dehydration can negatively impact gut health.

The Role of Probiotics and Prebiotics

Probiotics are live microorganisms that help maintain, balance, or increase the good bacteria in the gut. They can be found in some fermented foods, though not all foods act as effective probiotics since some do not survive digestion. Prebiotics, on the other hand, are non-digestible fibers that support the activity of good bacteria in the gut. They are found in fiber-rich foods, providing nourishment for probiotics.

The Synbiotic Concept

The concept of synbiotic is a combination of both probiotic and prebiotic approaches. A synbiotic aims at stimulating the growth and activity of indigenous bifidobacteria and lactobacilli in conjunction with probiotic strain. Prebiotic provide additional protection during intestinal transit to ensure persistence of the probiotic strain to the lower intestinal tract. Prebiotic enhance the growth of the probiotic strain and of the targeted commensal populations.

NutraHealthyGut Supplements

NutraHealthyGut offers an effective supplement range designed to support and enhance gut health. The products combine the power of probiotics and prebiotics to restore intestinal ecology and balance, reducing constipation, infectious diarrhea, and antibiotic-related diarrhea. They also improve digestion, alleviate bloating, and help reduce symptoms of lactose intolerance. Additionally, NutraHealthyGut supplements aid in preventing UTIs, managing symptoms of IBD & IBS, and addressing pediatric atopic dermatitis and eczema in children.

NutraHealthyGut Kids: Specifically formulated for children, this product combines prebiotics and probiotics in a convenient powder form, offering 6 billion CFU from at least 10 probiotic strains. The government of Bangsamoro makes promises to enhance education in the BARMM

During the celebration of the signing of the Madrasah Education Strategic Plan, the Memorandum of Understanding was held to formalize the commitments of various donors and stakeholders to enable BARMM to overcome challenges in the delivery of quality and inclusive education services, ensuring that every child in Bangsamoro has equal opportunities. (L-R: Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afif Hasbullah, Darul Ulum Islamic University; Dr. Muhammad Hafidz Nasrullah, Rector, Darul Ulum Islamic University; Honorable Mohagher M. Iqbal, Minster, Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education; and, Tahir G. Nalg, Director General for Madaris Education, Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education.)

The Madrasah Education Strategic Plan for the Bangsamoro region was signed on July 18, 2024, and the Bangsamoro government celebrated the occasion. The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) has committed to improving the quality of formal madrasah education during the next three years. This is outlined in the Plan by the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education.

An Islamic educational institution called a madrasah seeks to make Muslim students morally pure and dedicated to excellence. The Ministry acknowledges the important role madrasah education plays in maintaining the BARMM’s peace, stability, and potential for growth. The objective is to cultivate the next generation of Muslim professionals and innovators who can propel regional economic expansion, peace, and stability.

Various donors and stakeholders gathered last July 18, 2024 at Dusit Thani Manila, Makati City to celebrate the signing of the Madrasah Education Strategic Plan for the Bangsamoro region. (L-R: Mark James Evangelista, Department Liaison Unit Head, Department of Budget and Management; Director Susana S. Santiago, Chief, Project Management Service, Department of Education; Mr. Peter Adams, Development Counsellor Australia; Dr. Moya Collett, Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy in the Philippines; Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afif Hasbullah, Trustee, Darul Ulum Islamic University; Dr. Muhammad Hafidz Nasrullah, Rector, Darul Ulum Islamic University; Honorable Mohagher M. Iqbal, Minster, Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education; Tahir G. Nalg, Director General for Madaris Education, Ministry of Basic, Higher and Technical Education; Mr. Michael Alexander Ang, Jordan Consul General; Ms. Fardella Eusoff, Third Secretary, Embassy of Brunei in the Philippines; Ms. Asuka Ishizaka, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in the Philippines)

The Ministry received technical support from the Australian Government in order to design the Plan. In order to assist with the drafting process, they led consultation meetings with pertinent partners, reviewed madrasah education policies, and organized expert discussions.

“As neighbours and strategic partners, Australia and the Philippines share the goal of achieving a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region – and we believe that education plays a vital role in achieving this,” said Dr Moya Collett, Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy.

“I thank our friends and partners from the Ministry for their continued dedication in strengthening education policies and institutions in the BARMM. Australia remains committed to working with you in shaping a more peaceful and prosperous region.”

Under the Plan, the Ministry aims to increase the number of Bangsamoro learners – regardless of gender, physical ability, and social and economic status – by 30%. By 2025, they also aim to increase the number of formal madrasah institutions by 15%. Institutionalizing madrasahs is important because it allows the Ministry to monitor and regulate the quality of education and services they provide.

When it comes to incorporating traditional madrasah into the Bangsamoro educational system, the Ministry has made significant progress. There are currently 373 officially recognized madrasahs offering Islamic education for grades K–12. Along with the Australian Government, a policy guide was created to facilitate the certification of 444 non-formal madrasahs. In order to eventually accredit non-formal madrasas as well, the Ministry also intends to create a standardized curriculum for all madrasah.

Mohagher M. Iqbal, Minister of MBHTE said: “Strengthening madrasah education represents ‘unity in diversity.’ It demonstrates Bangsamoro’s firm commitment to preserving our region’s rich historical, religious, and educational heritage while creating an inclusive environment where every learner, regardless of background, can succeed.”

“Madrasah education is integral to our people’s aspiration to shape our educational policies and systems. Therefore, the Bangsamoro deserves genuine autonomy that all parties should honor. A thriving autonomy is the true solution to the recurring internal conflicts in the region.”

Schneider Electric gives Dualtech a P5 million donation of equipment and presents a scalable decarbonization plan for PH manufacture

Dr. Song Pei Chua, Business Development Manager for Chemicals, Schneider Electric East Asia
discusses the decarbonization roadmap for the Philippine manufacturing sector.

A scalable decarbonization roadmap for the Philippine manufacturing sector was unveiled by Schneider Electric, a leader in energy management and digital automation worldwide, at the recent Go Industry 2024: Driving towards a Net Zero Industry event, which was co-hosted by Dualtech Training Center Foundation, Inc. at The Mills Country Club in Laguna.

Leaders from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Laguna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), and the Climate Change Commission (CCC) Philippines attended the event.

The decarbonization roadmap outlines four key strategies that the sector can implement gradually to reduce carbon footprint:

  • Electrifying operations through microgrid optimization
  • Reducing energy consumption through digitalization and automation
  • Replacing energy sources with renewable energy such as solar energy, wind power, and hydropower
  • Engaging the entire value chain to design and build for sustainability and to offset carbon emissions, enabling a circular economy

“Our approach to decarbonization involves not just transforming our energy supply but also optimizing our processes through electrification,” said Dr. Song Pei Chua, Business Development Manager for Chemicals, Schneider Electric East Asia. “Strategic planning, digitization, and a steadfast commitment to efficiency and sustainability are at the core of manufacturing and industrial operations.”

Schneider Electric’s Sustainability Business Team helps industries achieve their carbon neutrality targets by developing customized digital-centric strategies. They provide advisory services to establish a baseline, understand current energy use, and create a comprehensive roadmap towards carbon neutrality.

Deployment of Schneider Electric’s proprietary and award-winning cloud-based platform EcoStruxure Resource Advisor helps collect and analyze energy consumption data. With this, businesses can develop better energy and sustainability strategies. Software trainings are conducted by Schneider Electric to help educate partners on how to maximize the software to enable effective application into their operations.

The Go Industry 2024: Driving towards a Net Zero Industry event held at The Mills Country Club, Laguna co-hosted with Dualtech Training Center Foundation, Inc., was attended by leaders from the Laguna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Climate Change Commission (CCC) Philippines, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).  (L-R: Philip S. Valdecañas, Projects and Services Manager at DualTech Training Center, Leonard Calma, Manager for Linkages at DualTech Training Center; Dr. Pei Song Chua, Business Development Manager for Chemicals at Schneider Electric East Asia; Virgilio Lorenzo, representative of the LCCI; Relly Fajardo, LCCI representative; Raul Villegas, Head Executive Assistant of the Climate Change Commission; Mark Anthony Ramirez, Programme Analyst for the Climate Action Programme Team of the UNDP; and, Dr. Marvin P. Adolfo, Consultant at Dualtech Training Center.)

During the event, CCC and UNDP both emphasized the significant role the private sector plays in achieving the country’s climate goals. “Shifting to digital operations is crucial for sectors aiming to reduce carbon emissions and meet the targets established by the nationally determined contribution (NDC) implementation plan,” CCC Executive Assistant Raul Villegas stated.

Schneider Electric Empowering Youth to Drive Digital Transformation

Schneider Electric’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond environmental initiatives. This is demonstrated by the company’s 5-year partnership with Dualtech where Schneider Electric has committed to provide PHP5 million worth of equipment and instructor training.

Dualtech, a 2-year program that combines electrical, mechanical, and electronics disciplines, is approved by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The school is updating its training programs and facilities to accommodate more students and alleviate the shortage of training materials and equipment in response to the global demand for skilled workers.

The corporation wants the manufacturing sector and other industries to follow suit. It wants to be carbon neutral in operations by 2025, save 800 million tons of carbon annually by 2030, achieve full value chain carbon neutrality by 2040, and reach net zero across all scopes by 2050. Schneider Electric was just named the “Most Sustainable Company in the World” by TIME Magazine.

This year, Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) is celebrating its much-awaited anniversary with a number of musical activities designed to promote a greater understanding and admiration of Pinoy music.

From July 5 to July 31, a variety of music venues and stages throughout Metro Manila will host the week-long celebration, which is dedicated to supporting both new and established local musicians whose work has inspired Filipinos or advanced the region’s economy and arts.

“What makes LMP 2024 different from the previous celebrations is that it has a more ‘back-to-basics’ vibe and ‘keeping-it-simple’ feel,” Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) Board member and Vice President for Special Projects Christian Bautista explains. “The focus and emphasis are really on listening to and appreciating different artists sharing their music and their stories in intimate settings. Our LMP this year is not really focused on the spectacle but rather more on highlighting the artist and the song.”

This year’s LMP chronicles a decade of celebrating Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino in accordance with Proclamation No. 933, signed by late President Benigno Aquino III on December 19, 2014.

Returning on its tenth year with the goal of reintroducing its mandate to highlight Filipino singer and to showcase the richness and diversity of Filipino music, Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino aims to be more proactive in supporting Pinoy artists and ensuring that they are given a platform to present their work and their story to a global modern audience.

The commemoration of LMP is slated to take place in several areas with multiple dates and will feature more than 30 artists from OPM’s roster and network of artists.

OPM Spotlight: LMP Night, which has championed some of the biggest and brightest local artists in recent years, will host performances and shows for the rest of the month at Kubo Bar in Kalayaan, Quezon City. Some of the headliners include Johnoy Danao, Sugarcane, jikamarie, Color It Red,, Mint Magic and many more from the OPM slate.

Other remote celebrations include OPM Spotlight: Rockwell LMP Series on July 24, 25, 26, and 28 at the Power Plant Mall in Makati City, and LMP24: PhilPop Night on July 31, 2024 at Kubo Bar. The latter puts a spotlight on select winners and participants from the prestigious annual songwriting competition, including Noah Alejandre, PhilPop 2020 Grand Champion; Davey Langit, PhilPop 2015 Top 3 Finalist and PhilPop 2013 Finalist; Kulas Basilonia, PhilPop 2020 Finalist; Hazel Faith, PhilPop North Luzon Boot Camp 2019 Fellow; and dwta, PhilPop 2021 DigiCamp Fellow. Ayala Land and Make It Makati will also be having a series of acoustic shows in partnership with OPM along with other activities related to the Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino celebration from July 21 to 28.

“Expect beautiful music and heartfelt performances from the artists,” Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) President Ogie Alcasid shares. “We hope that through this humble series of shows that we’re doing, the Filipino audience will continue to love and support Filipino artists and Filipino music even after LMP.”

OPM Officer in Charge Gab Cabangon emphasizes that the goal of this year’s LMP has never changed. “It’s always been about the celebration and promotion of Filipino artists and Filipino music. That has always been our advocacy, to which we are fully committed as an organization. I guess what we could add to that is that this LMP celebration is also OPM’s way to reintroduce itself to the general public and grow its community.”

The Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino was established under Proclamation No. 933, signed in 2014, with the initiative to celebrate Filipino music during the last week of July every year.

Here’s the schedule this year:

The Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit, in collaboration with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, Rockwell Land, PhilPop Musicfest Foundation, Inc., Ayala Land, Make It Makati, Ayala Malls, and Ayala Museum, is pleased to offer the Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino, also known as LMP24.

Additionally, a special thanks to our partner establishments, Beach House Bar & Grill Marikina and Kubo Bar Kalayaan.
