COKE HIGHLIGHTS FAMILY BOND IN SEASON 3 COKE STUDIO

SARAH GERONIMO

We Filipinos are known world-wide for the unique bond we share with our family. Unlike other countries who train their youngsters to live independently on their own, we, on the contrary, try our best to keep our family intact for the longest time possible. Before the season where the grandest reunion of family members happens, Coca Cola reminds us of our Pinoy idea of family through its Season 3 Coke Studio episode that focuses on family feels.

The show will feature Pinoy pop star Sarah Geronimo who’s known in showbiz as a daughter who puts her family first. We’ve known the pop princess to be an obedient daughter and she talks about her love for her family, saying:

“I really love my family and all the sacrifices they have made for me. Whatever happens in life, wherever my career takes me, God gave me a gift that grounds me and keeps me humble, so that I know who I am.”

She also adds that being invited to be part of Coke Studio Season 3 is like being invited to a family reunion of sorts.  She continued:

“When I used to see the Coke Studio billboard, when I would get stuck in traffic, I found it so cool, and I really thought to myself, ‘Wow, I wish that I could be a part of that.’

THIS BAND

Joining Sarah is the Pinoy singing group called This Band which comprises vocalist Andrea Manzano, guitarist Euwie Von Loria, bassistMiccael Galvan, drummer John Kenneth Macaranas, keyboardist Melvin Carson, and lead guitarist ReymartGubat. The group testified how they’ve grown together, making them consider each other a family. The group started their career jamming in the food parks around their neighborhood. This Band also shares a special connection with Sarah who they see as a part of their extended showbiz family since they are all in the same management group.

Although they are under the same management, the band is still find it unbelievable that they will be joining the singing icon in a project. Euwie says:

“But at first, we couldn’t believe that this early in our career, we could be working with her. It’s as if our career will be fast-tracked, things are going beyond what we imagined.”

Andrea adds:

“And we’re so happy that we get to remake her song, because her music is really part of the soundtrack of our lives.”

On the other hand, Sarah felt like a big sister to This Band members, seeing the responsibility of passing on some wisdom to her young colleagues.  Sarah says as she reminisces:

“When I was starting out, what was important, yung maging plakado. But now, the young ones, they’re so free.  And that’s great because what really matters with any performance, is that you put your heart into it.  So I would just remind them to always put your all into a performance.”

Catch Sarah Geronimo and This Band collaborate for Coke Studio Season 3 on October 26, at 10:00 a.m. on ABS-CBN or online at www.youtube.com/CokeStudioPH.

As the known hub for unique local finds in the Metro, the opportunity to showcase what Filipino breweries can offer to the world stage is an honor and we hope to hold more beer festivals here.”

And of course, a beer festival wouldn’t be complete without a pulutan. A wide array of food choices by food outlets of Tiendesitas was also laid down at the open spaces of the mall. From grilled items to seafoods all of the Pinoy favorite appetizers were there to satisfy the fest-goers. A non-stop entertainment from talented performers at the mall also went down to liven up the spirit of all guests.

The memorandum of agreement for this stint was already released and commits to train over 500 students from seven participating schools, including University of Makati, Fort Bonifacio High School, Pitogo High School, Nemesio Yabut High School, Maximo Estrella High School, Benigno Aquino High School, and Makati High School. Chosen students will be assigned across the 23 McDonald’s stores located within Makati City and some will also be assisting in the company’s head office to learn more about restaurant operations and gain firsthand experience and knowledge in the food industry.

SVP for Human Capital Group of McDonald’s Philippines Chona Torre talked about their mission to provide employment to more Filipinos, especially the youth, saying:

Through this partnership, we aim to immerse students in a natural working environment where they can develop values, knowledge and basic competency skills that will be helpful in their future careers.”

Like the college on-the-job training, students they’ll hire will need to finish 80-hour of work as required by DepEd for graduation. Students taking the academic track as their major will be assigned to do corporate tasks in human resources, IT, and Finance. Meanwhile students under the technical vocational livelihood major with sub-specializations in cookery, bread and pastries, and food and beverage will be exposed in restaurant operations.

Chapter 2: The Empty Chair Project Show of Arts and Charity Event

The artist participated for the visual arts community revolving on the theme of chairs: Ciron Señeres and Marc Aran Reyes.

Where arts and heart collide, there’ll be one great charity event as a result.

Plain Bo Concept and Casa Bella chairs served as canvases to several contemporary artists in the country to come up with designer chairs that are about to sold to collect funds for a good cause. This stint is from the collaboration of the Visual Arts Helping Hands Foundation, Inc (VAHHFI) and the Metropolitan Museum of Manila through the art event called Chapter 2: The Empty Chair Project.

The biennial gathering of creative minds and generous individuals lists the museum as beneficiary and selects mental health advocacy groups like Anxiety and Depression Support Philippines, Silakbo, Buhay Movement, and #MentalHealthPh. More than that, it also seeks to support VAHHFI’s healthcare initiative for practicing visual artists and artist support practitioners like art critics, art professors, curators, and established gallery workers.

Photo shows from left: Exhibit curator Mr. Ricky Francisco, MET team head Ms. Tina Colayco, VAHHF’s Mr. Daniel Dela Cruz, Atty. Tonico Manahan, Ms. Trickie Lopa and Mr. Mike Tomacruz

This year’s gathering serves as the VAHHFI’s inaugural launch and coming out event, which follows the initial charity event in 2017. The previous exhibition aimed to raise funds primarily for visual artists’ welfare and hospitalization assistance, which resulted in the eventual creation of the foundation. Sculptor and main founding member Daniel Dela Cruz shared:

“Creating and registering the foundation took two years.

…it is the artists in service of other artists and those in the community.”

Chapter 2: The Empty Chair Project tackles the timely subject of Mental Health, and the idea that art can be a part of the healing process. It also aims to expand VAHHFI’s reach in generating awareness not only among the visual arts community but also among the general public. Furthermore, the organization hopes to provide collectors the chance to purchase unique artworks through collectible chairs and also give them the opportunity to help not just the artists but the professionals who support the artists in the visual art ecosystem.

To make this year’s event a reality, VAHHFI challenged some of the best artists in the visual arts scene to interpret, translate, and realize what an empty chair means. Additionally, the art concepts embody the message of “hope, kindness, and positivity to all.” Artists are also eager to encourage mental fitness as a part of one’s own overall well-being interpreted through their works.

Mr. Dela Cruz says about this goal:

“In as much as our foundation focuses on physical fitness, mental fitness should also be part of our regimen to protect and safeguard our overall well-being.

We spend time and energy exercising and going to the gym, but we also need to remember to take time to relax, de-stress, and rest our minds and our soul.  Art, and all creative endeavors, soothes the soul and nourishes it.”

Priced tag with a hefty price of a hundred thousand pesos, every one-of-a-kind masterpiece will generate funds for VAHH’s medical endowment funds. This embodies VAHHFI’s raison d’etre and philosophy: To give back to the visual arts community by providing funds to institutional partners and medical assistance to members of the visual arts community.

Some of the artists who contributed their time and talent for this charity event include Leo Abaya, Fruitjuice Factory Studio with Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan, Annie Cabigting, Valeria Cavestany, Charlie Co, Louie Cordero, Jayson Cortez, Marina Cruz, Kawayan de Guia, Antipas “Biboy” Delotavo, Dexter Fernandez, Dino Gabito, Nona Garcia, Guerrero “RG” Habulan, Gregory Halili, Riel Hilario, NiloIlarde, Pete Jimenez, Erwin Leaño, Raul Lebajo, Luis Lorenzana, Gene Paul Martin, Jason Montinola, Leeroy New, Rando Onia, Jim Orencio, Bernie Pacquing, LynyrdParas, Richard Quebral, Marc Aran Reyes, Jose Tence “Bogie” Ruiz, Stanley Ruiz, Luis Santos, Ciron Señeres, Rodel Tapaya, and MM Yu.

Since April 2018, the charity program has been providing assistance to artists and other art workers, like art writers, a museum director and a gallery owner who suffer ailments like thyroid cancer, recurrence of tumor, and kidney disease.

Chapter 2: The Empty Chair Project will run from November 12, 2019, Tuesday, to January 31, 2020, Friday. But LBC’s Social Sellers Bazaar collected all of these entrepreneurs together in an expo to let virtual sellers come to real contact with buyers.

The Philippines’ number 1 courier and logistics company held its first ever So Shop! Social Sellers Bazaar on October 5 at Function Room 4, SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City. Over 100 entrepreneurs based online registered to set up their stalls which thousands of shoppers visited. Of course, there was an exciting program where industry speakers and influencers came to give their inspiring experiences and words of motivation.

As for business owners, it was a huge opportunity to add more people to their network and ensure their new customers with top-rate customer service through LBC’s Cash on Pick-up (COP) and Cash on Delivery (COD) services. For people who prefer to shop more conveniently online, these services of LBV are very useful. First, for busy workers who can’t go to bank during work hours, COP is the better option to pay their items. For busy moms who can’t leave their home, COD is the perfect payment method.

LBC’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Philippine Branch Operations Oliver L. Valentin discussed how they wish to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises in the country through their bazaar, saying:

“With more and more Filipinos setting up their businesses online, we at LBC, believe that it’s high time to bring online businesses together, in one venue, and get to interact with their buyers live. So Shop! is our commitment to empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises in the country.”

The bazaar was an exhibition of almost all kinds of products that can be shopped online. From gadgets where Juan Gadget, Droid Hero, and JBL Store PH participated to give exclusive deals and discounts to beauty and makeup products featuring Korean and Japanese brands, Pinays and Pinoys were totally captivated by the expo. And it’s just in time for the gift giving season!

Talks were also given which is one of the most interesting parts for me because the topics were about starting and growing businesses online. Social media gave a lot of people the opportunity to improve their lives through this online selling that almost every mom is now doing. From one live feed to another live feed, these entrepreneurs get so invigorated most especially when they see how much they’ve earned at the end of their live video session.

One show on television broadcasted recently revealed one online seller making 7-figure income from one live show. And that is from selling bags. So imagine how powerful social media could actually be. For that, LBC invited Facebook Philippines Head of Agency Liam Capati who discussed how to Facebook Ads work to the advantage of entrepreneurs.

Gladys Lacorte, Canva Community Team Lead

But it’s not enough to just pay a fee for the ad. You need to make your creative really appealing so you can spark the interest of FB goers at first glance. Canva Community Team Lead Gladys Lacorte was then asked to talk about the importance of having visually appealing social media pages through designs that represent a business’ personality.

Rachell Araja-De Luna, Founder of Creative Boss

Carlo Ople, PLDT Vice-President for Digital Strategy and Consumer Disruptive Business

Another must-have for online sellers is a website. So Creative Boss Founder Rachell Araja-De Luna shared why a website is a must-have for an online business, with it being a repository of one’s products online. PLDT Vice-President for Digital Strategy and Consumer Disruptive Business Carlo Ople was also present to talk about why businesses should be present on the digital space and how to effectively tap online communities to reach a specific target market.

Neri Miranda gives mompreneurs on how to juggle being a mom and a business owner at the same time

Wil Dasovich shares his story as a content creator to excited fans.

To make the program even more interesting, several influencers and at the same time successful entrepreneurs also shared their inspiring stories. Two of them where Neri Naig Miranda who shared her strategies on how she made one business bud into one and another one until she already has several sources of income. On the other hand, famous content creator and vlogger Wil Dasovich talked about how he creates stories that earns him multi-figures and how he makes his subscribers keep asking for more of his videos.

In another part of the program, there was a panel discussion that saw several online business owners including Jamico Jamlang, founder of sustainable businesses The Bamboo Company and Chesca De Mesa, co-founder and managing director of Refuse PH. Joining them was Havas Media Ortega Head of Data and Analytics Phil Tiongson who gave the audience a glimpse of Havas’ global study centering around consumers’ mindful consumption.

Women entrepreneurs also took center stage with Kimstore Founder Kim Lato and Neon Island Founders Alyssa Gibbs and Aira Medina. They shared what it’s like starting and growing a business, as women, and how they overcame the challenges that came with it.

The event was hosted by 101.1 Yes FM DJ Rico Panyero and Love Radio DJ Raqi Terra, making So Shop!  Not just a star-studded bazaar but one that has taught online business owners new techniques to move their businesses forward.
