Japanese pop artist YUKIPOYO teams up with Filipino rapper Zae for the “Te-Te Gyaru” remix

The upcoming release pairs innovative club production with a powerful tribute to confidence, style, and the legacy of gyaru culture

Japanese pop artist, model, and TV personality YUKIPOYO has launched “Te-Te Gyaru” on global music streaming platforms.

A remix featuring emerging Filipino rapper Zae is also expected to be released soon.

A cross-border collaboration

Filipino rapper Zae has quickly emerged as one of the country’s most promising hip-hop artists, attracting more than 580,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Her collaboration with rap heavyweight Hev Abi on “SUBOMOTO REMIX” also received a nomination for Hip-Hop Song of the Year at the inaugural Filipino Music Awards in 2025.

It was such a fun experience attending the press conference and seeing YUKIPOYO in person. Meeting her and hearing about the global release of “Te-Te Gyaru” made the moment even more memorable, especially with the upcoming remix featuring Filipino rapper Zae. It’s exciting to witness a collaboration that brings together Japanese and Filipino artists, and I can’t wait to hear the remix when it drops.

Both artists are currently in Manila to shoot the music video for YUKIPOYO’s “Te-Te Gyaru (feat. Zae) [Tagalog ver.],” which will accompany the release of the remix once it comes out.

“Te-Te Gyaru” – out this Friday

“Te-Te Gyaru,” the original version of the track, is produced by XLII, a Tokyo-based producer who has previously worked with MINMI, Yayoi Daimon, Watson, Akko Gorilla, Reichi, and other heavy-hitters in the Japanese dance/urban/pop music scene.

Brimming with bizarre sonic textures, jittery beats, percussive grunts, and YUKIPOYO’s commanding rap performance, “Te-Te Gyaru” captures the artist at her most confident. On the upbeat bop, the half-Filipina, half-Japanese pop star asserts herself not only as a fashion-forward tastemaker but also as a multifaceted artist unafraid to challenge expectations through both style and sound.

Even before its official release, preview clips of the track had already amassed a combined 4 million views on TikTok and 1.52 million views on Instagram. Meanwhile, the latest visual garnered 92,000 likes on X shortly after it was posted, underscoring the growing excitement surrounding YUKIPOYO and the continued evolution of gal culture in Japan’s Reiwa era.
