Globe offers the next generation of changemakers more than just books to devour

Globe is supporting a new generation of Filipino students who are redefining what it means to be changemakers, from artists and community advocates to student leaders and tech innovators.

The company continues to provide opportunities for students nationwide to find their purpose, express their creativity, and transform audacious ideas into tangible impact through its Globe Community Builders Program. Through volunteer activities, creative platforms, mentorships, and internships, Globe is assisting in bridging the gap between academic life and practical experience.

And for these four young trailblazers, that support has made all the difference.

From org member to intern, now building communities

Christiane Guanzon of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas first encountered Globe at a campus “Kapihan” session. Back then, he thought Globe was just a telco. Today, he’s an intern—and a key part of Globe’s youth engagement efforts.

Christiane Guanzon (Left) of De La Salle University – Dasmariñas Junior Marketing Association and his co-members Alexandra Jhane P. Cruz, Ma. Katrina A. Velarde, and Coleen Ysavel M. Sotoya

“I used to think Globe was just about tech. But through all these events and conversations, I saw how much they genuinely invest in community-building,” Christiane reflects.

His journey moved quickly: from attending a Marvel screening to volunteering at Pitch Day, a Globe-led initiative that gives student organizations a platform to present their passion projects and receive expert feedback, mentorship, and potential support from the brand. Held at The Globe Tower, Pitch Day brings together youth leaders, mentors, and Globe teams in one collaborative space to nurture ideas that aim to create social good.

Christiane didn’t just assist in organizing the event—he also stood beside fellow student leaders, mentoring and cheering them on.

“It’s rare to find brands that really trust young people,” he says. “Globe didn’t just let me in the room—they gave me responsibilities, mentorship, and encouragement to lead.”

Turning grief into art, and art into advocacy

When Technological University of the Philippines student Miguel Isiah Diva painted Tails and Trails as a tribute to his late dog, Bochok, he never expected it to change the course of his creative path. But winning the Globe x Art Toys Online Contest opened new doors—giving him a platform and a purpose.

Miguel Isiah Diva (left) painting his artwork that won him champion during the Globe x Art Toys Online Contest,

“Winning that contest made me feel seen,” Miguel shares. “As a student, as an artist, and as someone who simply wanted to tell a story that mattered to me.”

The recognition led to a live mural collaboration at Art in the Park, where Miguel joined other artists in painting for Pawssion Project, an animal welfare group supported by Globe.

“It wasn’t just about the art,” Miguel adds. “It was the people I met, the mission behind it, and the feeling that my creativity had a place in the world. Globe helped me realize that my voice—and my brush—can make a difference.”

From outsider to startup founder with a mission

When Franchezka Zapanta moved from Mindanao to Manila for college, she felt like an outsider. Most of her early university years were spent online, and adjusting to the pace of city life was overwhelming. But when she began attending Globe’s youth events, something shifted.

Franchezka Zapanta, Founder of BitDigest.io, Trilz, & now a youth mentor during the Globe Community Builders Pitch Day.

“Showing up was my silent act of courage,” she says. “Then one day, I realized: I didn’t feel out of place anymore. I felt welcome.”

That sense of belonging helped her grow. She became president of DLSU SCALE, the university’s startup org, and launched BitDigest.io, a tech platform that she unveiled at The Globe Tower.

At Pitch Day 2025, Franchezka returned—not as a participant, but as a mentor, guiding other young leaders through their own journeys.

“When brands like Globe believe in you, you start to believe in yourself too,” she says. “And that’s when real change begins.”

Creative courage, expressed in every color

Jessie James Valera, a dentistry student from Our Lady of Fatima University, found an unexpected platform for creative freedom through Globe. Outside the classroom, Jessie explores identity and artistry through bold fashion, performance, and makeup—blending disciplines to create what they call “wearable stories.”

Jessie during the Globe KmmunityPH x K-Leidoscope Kmmunity Party

“My art isn’t just about the look—it’s about telling a story, expressing emotion, and connecting with others,” Jessie says.

Globe gave Jessie the chance to be part of Art Fair Philippines and Art in the Park, where they met fellow creatives and found a welcoming space to grow their unique style. Through Globe events like Kmmunity Reveluv Night, Jessie also discovered a supportive community that encourages individuality and celebrates authenticity.

“What I learned from all this is that believing in your creative voice—even if it feels different or unconventional—can take you places,” Jessie shares. “I hope other students realize that their quirks are their strengths.”

More than a telco

“At Globe, we’re committed to supporting the Filipino youth—helping them shape their creative journeys and become co-builders of the future,” said Andrew Lim, Lead for Marketing Youth Cultures.

Through activism, leadership, technology, and the arts, students across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao are realizing their full potential. When given the proper assistance, individuals aren’t only taking part in the future. They are constructing it.

ChildFund collaborates with the Manila LGU and DepEd to update ICT Hubs and encourage child safety online

Through its Pro-Digital LOOP Project, ChildFund Philippines and ChildFund Korea are transforming digital learning environments in Manila’s public elementary schools by updating ICT facilities, offering workshops to communities on safe digital practices, and assisting in the creation of national online child protection policies.

The Pro-Digital LOOP Project, which was started in November 2023, aims to address two major issues facing the nation’s educational system: unequal access to technology and rising child safety threats online. The project is creating tech-enabled, inclusive classrooms that support safe, efficient, and equitable learning opportunities for everyone through collaborations with GEMS Heart Outreach Development Inc. and the Department of Education (DepEd).

Marlene Floresca, Senior Education Specialist of ChildFund Philippines, emphasized that multi-sectoral partnerships allowed them to yield holistic impact of the initiative: “The project has transformed schools and homes by equipping them to better support children’s digital learning. Our approach not only provides technology but also strengthens safe digital literacy, ensuring that children can thrive academically and protect themselves online.”

This shift is already evident in the classrooms. “Many of our students now come to school excited to learn because they can explore digital tools safely and creatively,” said Eremeo Monte, ICT Coordinator at Fernando Ma. Guerrero Elementary School in Manila. “We’ve seen how ICT hubs can spark curiosity and help students learn better across subjects—from reading to science.”

Since its launch, the Pro-Digital LOOP Project has enhanced digital learning in 10 Manila public elementary schools by providing 200 laptops, smart TVs, printers, air conditioners, and refurbished ICT hubs with high-speed internet. In addition, 200 licensed Microsoft applications were distributed, and 346 teachers—including subject specialists in math, reading, and science—along with ICT coordinators, principals, and education staff, were trained in using multimedia digital resources appropriate for their elementary students.

During their recent visit to select public schools in Manila, representatives from ChildFund Philippines, ChildFund Korea, and GEMS Heart Outreach Development Inc. engaged with school administrators and teachers to discuss the impact of the Pro-Digital LOOP Project and explore ways to further strengthen digital learning and child online safety. The project also engaged parents and caregivers, with more than 2,000 oriented on the goals of Pro-Digital LOOP and the importance of safe digital learning at home. Over 6,000 students and nearly 400 teachers actively used the ICT hubs during the last quarter of 2024, enhancing digital skills and academic performance.

Minjin Kim, Country Program Manager of ChildFund Korea, shared, “Teachers have become more confident using digital tools to deliver lessons effectively, and students are more engaged and better able to understand their lessons because of the interactive nature of digital learning.” She added that the establishment of ICT hubs provides access to richer academic resources, enhancing teaching and learning experiences.

According to Camille Villareal, ICT Coordinator of Bagong Barangay Elementary School, “The new equipment and digital resources have truly changed how we teach and engage with our students. They’re now more interactive and eager, especially in subjects like math and science, where multimedia tools make lessons clearer and more exciting.” Likewise, Carmela Conmigo, ICT Coordinator at Beata Elementary School, expressed, “The training we received helped us integrate technology effectively, and the community’s involvement has been key to ensuring students learn and stay safe online.”

During a recent visit to select Manila public schools, including Bagong Barangay Elementary School, representatives from ChildFund Philippines, ChildFund Korea, and GEMS Heart Outreach Development Inc. met with educators to assess the impact of the Pro-Digital LOOP Project and identify ways to enhance digital learning and online child safety. Photo from ChildFund Philippines.

Building on these improvements in teaching and engagement, Carol Salba, Principal at Bagong Barangay Elementary School, highlighted the broader impact on students: “The gadgets and instructional materials provided through the project have been a great opportunity for our students. They are more motivated to learn, which translated into increased participation and a lower dropout rate this year. We hope this program continues so that even more students can benefit from it.”

Beyond schools, the project has contributed to strengthening policies on safe digital literacy and learning environments. Collaborative meetings with tech companies like Meta and TikTok paved the way for upcoming advocacy meetings and policy dialogues involving children. Likewise, engagements with the DepEd’s Learner Rights and Protection Bureau are set to include online safety in the revised DepEd Child Protection Policy, supported by training initiatives and policy digitalization efforts.

The effect has also been observed by parents. Kim said, “One parent-teacher association (PTA) member acknowledged the efforts to increase digital literacy and guarantee children’s online safety.” Parents conveyed gratitude for the project’s contribution to tackling issues associated with excessive usage of phones and video games.

ChildFund aspires to a future in which every Filipino kid has access to secure, technologically improved education that equips them to thrive in a world that is becoming more interconnected by closing the digital divide and strengthening online child protection.

Novo Nordisk introduces the “Truth About Weight” campaign in the Philippines, highlighting 25 years of research on obesity

Photo for illustrative purposes only.

Four out of ten Filipino individuals are currently obese, according to a new study from the Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI). Health trends have changed significantly, as evidenced by this chart. As lifestyle changes, a rise in processed food intake, and a decline in physical activity lead to health problems for future generations, children and adolescents also confront difficulties. while its great prevalence, obesity is sometimes overlooked in favor of other health issues, while being a major contributing factor to a number of severe chronic illnesses, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, and several types of cancer1.

Novo Nordisk, a global initiative leading the battle against obesity through awareness, education, and advocacy, is pleased to begin its ‘Truth About Weight’ campaign in the Philippines in recognition of the pressing nature of this public health issue. With a dedication to bettering patient outcomes and 25 years of focused research on obesity treatment worldwide, Novo Nordisk wants to change the stigma associated with obesity to one of understanding and support.

As I had the opportunity to attend their event, I felt genuinely grateful and inspired to learn about the incredible campaign they have launched surrounding various health issues. It was truly enlightening to see how they approach these topics with such dedication, ensuring that each concern is addressed thoughtfully and backed by accurate, well-researched information. Their commitment to raising awareness and promoting public understanding is greatly commendable.

“Obesity is one of the most misunderstood and undertreated health challenges we face today. It is  not merely a lifestyle choice, it is a pressing serious chronic disease,” stated Wei Sun, General  Manager of Novo Nordisk Philippines. “Through the Truth About Weight campaign, we seek to  empower Filipinos with accurate information and helpful resources to help them understand obesity  as a disease and encourage them to access the care they need.”

Obesity is a Disease

At the heart of the Truth About Weight campaign is a vital message: obesity is not the result of  poor lifestyle choices alone; it is a chronic, complex disease influenced by genetics, environmental  conditions, hormones, and psychological factors.23 Dr. Ma. Corazon del Mundo, psychiatrist and  diplomate member of Philippine Psychiatric Association (PPA), further explains, “Unfortunately,  weight stigma and misinformation are deeply ingrained in our society. Individuals affected by  obesity often face shame and judgment, not only externally but also within healthcare  environments. This stigma can prevent them from seeking the treatment they deserve.”

The Truth About Weight campaign seeks to combat misinformation and the stigma surrounding  obesity. Central to this initiative is the Truth About Weight website, which serves as a  comprehensive resource hub. It offers scientific insights into the nature of weight and obesity, a  free weight health risk assessment, educational tools, inspiring stories to promote understanding,  and resources that guide individuals to seek professional help.

“Our goal is to shift the conversation from blame to understanding and from stigma to support,” Dr.  Cyrus Pasamba, senior medical manager of Novo Nordisk Philippines added. “Obesity transcends  mere aesthetics; it is a legitimate disease that warrants serious attention, robust resources, and,  above all, compassion.”

A Mature Mexican Woman Working Out

Novo Nordisk calls upon all Filipinos to proactively engage in their health by visiting Truth About  Weight website. This site not only provides a free health risk assessment but also access to  reliable, science-based information about obesity. Filipinos are encouraged to share insights from  the campaign with family and friends and to consult healthcare professionals if they have concerns  regarding their weight.

“The silence surrounding obesity must end. It is a disease that we must treat with urgency and  seriousness,” Wei Sun concluded. “The Truth About Weight campaign is more than an awareness  initiative; it is a movement toward change, dignity, and improved health for every Filipino.”

Using Home Credit to Make Big Dreams Possible

With one laptop and a leap of faith, this couple transformed their future—proving that big dreams start with small steps

Every Filipino aspires to live a better life, one that is stable, comfortable, and full of growth chances. These goals represent the aspirations we have for ourselves and our loved ones, whether they are home ownership, starting a new career, or just easily handling daily expenses. And even if obstacles and a lack of resources can occasionally slow us down, the correct assistance can transform even the most simple moment into a powerful fresh start.

Home Credit Philippines, the top consumer finance company in the nation, marked a turning point for many. With flexible payment plans and reasonably priced financing choices, Home Credit enables Filipinos to confidently move toward the future they have always dreamed of—one attainable goal at a time.

A laptop that changed everything

Take the inspiring story of Manilyn and Mark Anthony Agus, both 35, who once juggled multiple side jobs to make ends meet. Today, they’re thriving as full-time virtual assistants, earning a combined six-digit monthly income–and it all began with one simple opportunity made possible by Home Credit. Before their careers took off, Mark worked at a factory and later became a delivery and ride-hailing rider. He also helped Manilyn sell home-cooked meals while she ran a small online business selling decorative pebbles.

Despite their hustle, most of their income went toward daily expenses and supporting Mark’s mother’s medical needs. Their dreams of owning a home and financial stability felt distant–until a chance encounter at a tech store changed their lives.

“We were just walking around the mall in 2022 when a Home Credit sales associate introduced us to their installment plans,” shared Manilyn. “All they asked for was one valid ID. The process was quick—less than a minute—and we walked out with a laptop.”

That laptop was more than just a device. It was a stepping stone.

From Struggles to Stability

With her new laptop, Manilyn secured her first virtual assistant job. Realizing the potential of remote work, she encouraged Mark to follow the same path. Soon, they secured a second laptop through Home Credit, allowing them both to work from home full-time.

“Napakalaking tulong sa amin ng Home Credit. Ito ang naging pundasyon namin para makapag-trabaho as virtual assistants,” Mark shared.

(The laptop we got through Home Credit was a huge help. It became the foundation of our work as virtual assistants.)

Since then, the couple has taken out and successfully paid off 11 loans with Home Credit—including cash loans and product installments. They’ve gradually built the life they once only dreamed of: owning a home, upgrading appliances like refrigerators and washing machines, buying furniture, motorcycles, and even a PS5 for leisure.

“Sa tulong ni Home Credit, nakapag-umpisa kaming mag-asawa ng bagong career at ngayon ay kumikita na kami ng umaabot ng six digits,” Manilyn added.

(With Home Credit’s help, my husband and I were able to start new careers, and now we’re earning up to six digits.)

Most recently, they used a ₱30,000 Home Credit Cash Loan to renovate their kitchen—approved in just one minute through the Home Credit App.

“Nag-avail kami ng cash loan through the Home Credit App. And in as fast as one minute, na-approve na siya agad,” Manilyn remarked.

(We availed a cash loan through the Home Credit App, and in as fast as one minute, it was already approved.)

“Malaki ang tiwala namin sa Home Credit dahil isa siya sa naging parte ng kung paano kami nakabangon. Kung tao si Home Credit, taos-puso kaming magpapasalamat dahil nakabili kami ng laptop na naging pundasyon para makapag-umpisa kaming mag-asawa. Malayo na rin ang aming narating mula noong panahong puro sideline lang ang aming kinakapitan,” Manilyn added.

(We have great trust in Home Credit because it played a big role in helping us build a better life. If Home Credit were a person, we would wholeheartedly say thank you, because it enabled us to buy a laptop that became the starting point for my husband and me to pursue our dreams. We’ve come a long way since the days when we relied only on side hustles.)

Helping Filipinos Achieve the Good Life

“Mark and Manilyn’s story reminds us of what’s possible when financial access meets real ambition,” said Shiela Paul, Chief Marketing Officer of Home Credit Philippines. “Our mission is to bring life-changing opportunities closer to everyday Filipinos. Their journey is proof that with the right tools and support, big dreams can come true.”

From a single gadget to a thriving home-based career, Mark and Manilyn’s experience reflects what Home Credit stands for: making progress possible, one empowered Filipino at a time.

In order to serve high-density AI workloads, the business presents the Galaxy VXL, a next-generation uninterruptible power supply (UPS) that offers scalability, efficiency, and power protection in a small package.

The digital world is changing due to artificial intelligence, which is predicted to double in processing power every 100 days. “Data center power consumption is expected to increase by 4.2 times between 2023 and 2028 due to this surge,” stated Abraham Lim, Vice President of Secure Power and Industrial Automation Business at Schneider Electric Philippines.

According to the Electric Power Research Institute , creating original music, images, or movies requires a lot more power than a standard internet search, and a normal AI query can use up to ten times as much electricity. With 5.56 billion internet users, the quick uptake of AI is driving energy consumption to previously unheard-of levels, leading to a predicted 26% to 36% annual increase in global energy demand associated with AI in the years to come.

This surge in energy demand underscores the urgency for more sustainable digital infrastructure. At the recently concluded Innovation Day 2025 Philippines, hosted by Schneider Electric, Pang XingJian, Zone President of Schneider Electric East Asia, emphasized this point, stating, “So without any technology advances, today’s 9 billion searches per day would add an additional 10TWh of electricity consumption per year. This forces us to rethink how and where we build data centers and how they manage their resources.”

Efficiency-First Strategy

In response, Schneider Electric has unveiled the Galaxy VXL, a highly efficient, modular UPS built specifically for AI-era data centers and critical infrastructure. With a power density of up to 1042 kW/m², it supports up to 1.25 MW in a single 1.2 m² frame — and up to 5 MW when four units are run in parallel.

Galaxy VXL delivers the highest levels of power performance for AI, colocation, and hyperscale data center environments, as well as large-scale critical infrastructure and electrical systems within commercial buildings and industrial facilities. Key benefits include:

  • Modular Live Swap, scalable design: 125 kW/3U power modules enable pay-as-you-grow flexibility.
  • Compact footprint: 52% smaller than industry average with full front access and no rear clearance.
  • High efficiency: Up to 99% efficiency in eConversion mode, 97.5% in double conversion, plus SPoT (Smart Power Test) testing to save energy.
  • Lower CapEx and OpEx: Optimized performance, easier maintenance, and reduced energy bills improve total cost of ownership.
  • Resilient architecture: Conformal-coated boards, 100kA short circuit rating, and seismic kit readiness.
  • Cybersecurity & safety: Certified to IEC 62443-4-2 with Live Swap technology for zero-downtime module replacement.
  • Extended lifespan: EcoStruxure Service Plan offers AI-powered 24/7 monitoring and predictive maintenance to cut disruptions by up to 50%.
  • Ideal for prefabricated data centers: Smaller size, higher performance, and greater sustainability.

“From rack density to cooling and power distribution, data centers must evolve rapidly to stay competitive,” said Lim. “Meeting the demands of AI isn’t just about delivering more power. It’s about building smarter, more efficient infrastructure that balances performance with sustainability and cost-efficiency. Data centers of the future must be energy-optimized and adaptable, ensuring they can scale without compromising their environmental or operational goals.”

Why Efficiency Is the New Competitive Advantage

As electricity costs rise and sustainability becomes a business imperative, efficiency has emerged as a new competitive edge for data center operators, CIOs, and energy leaders. With modular scalability, reduced total cost of ownership (TCO), and reduced emissions, Galaxy VXL helps customers meet growing compute requirements with greater agility, uptime, and environmental responsibility.

Galaxy VXL provides a small and expandable power backbone for high-compute applications, supporting the shift toward prefabricated and modular data centers. Schneider Electric has raised Galaxy VXL’s yearly production capacity to more than 9,000 units by 2025 in order to satisfy the growing demand from around the world.

More Than Just a Social Club: Cardinal Santos Medical Center and the PNP Officers’ Ladies Club lead the country’s LAB Virus Program and Medical Mission

By participating in this year’s simultaneous nationwide LAB Virus Program and Medical Mission on June 4, 2025, in collaboration with Cardinal Santos Medical Center, the Philippine National Police Officers’ Ladies Club (PNPOLC) demonstrates that they are much more than just a conventional social organization.

What started out as a support club for PNP officers’ spouses has expanded into a national network of strong, independent women who are significantly improving the lives of Filipinos. One of the best examples of that change is the LAB Virus program, which stands for “Love and Blessing.” This organization provides essential medical care to underprivileged areas nationwide in a kind and compassionate manner.

“In the past, it’s the Officers’ Ladies Club. This is composed of the wives of the officers of the PNP. But, of course, due to the changing times, nakita natin na ang mas kailangan pala ang mga pulis. So, that’s why we decided to transform it and register it as a foundation with the sole purpose of helping our PNP personnel and in order to make this sustainable, we made sure to create partnerships like this with Cardinal Santos Medical Center,” said Mrs. Mary Rose Marbil, National Adviser of the PNP-OLC Foundation.

Mrs. Marbil said she and her husband, former PNP Chief Rommel Marbil have decided to make this initiative nationwide and simultaneous in all the regional police offices in the country.

“Ang pangarap niya ay pangarap ko rin. Matatag na ekonomiya, maayos na lipunan at maayos na Kapulisan”, she added.

In an unprecedented show of unity and service, the PNP-OLC mobilized members in all regions to simultaneously conduct medical missions in police camps, barangays, and remote areas. In collaboration with Cardinal Santos Medical Center, the initiative will provide:

  • Free health consultations
  • Basic laboratory services and Free circumcision
  • Blood pressure and blood sugar checks
  • Flu and pneumonia vaccinations
  • Medicine distribution and wellness education

The event is part of PNP-OLC’s broader effort to redefine the role of women in the uniformed service community—not just as supporters, but as leaders, organizers, and changemakers in their own right.

Mrs. Marbil further assured the continuity of the initiative as they transition to a new leadership in the PNP.

“I made a playbook para may guide na kung ano ‘yung gagawin, we will support the new adviser. I’m sure may mas marami pa siyang ideas na maiisip for the police force”

The club demonstrates that true service transcends uniforms and that compassion knows no rank by partnering with one of the top medical institutions in the nation to guarantee that high-quality care reaches even the most difficult-to-reach populations.

Manila Water has completed major upgrades at the Olandes Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Marikina City, converting its previously unused capacity to support Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) treatment. This development reflects the company’s dedication to environmental stewardship and adherence to more stringent effluent quality standards.

The P129.31-million BNR enhancement project, finalized in November 2024, aimed to boost the STP’s efficiency in eliminating harmful nutrients such as ammonia, nitrates, and phosphates—pollutants that can severely impact ecosystems if not properly treated. Through this improved BNR process, Manila Water is actively reducing the environmental footprint of wastewater discharge into surrounding waterways.

Key enhancements implemented as part of the operational modification include replacing the existing Conventional Activated Sludge (CAS) process with a more advanced Modified Ludzack-Ettinger (MLE) configuration. This upgrade involved several critical components such as structural modification and repair of tanks, construction of a chemical house for the chemical dosing system, installation of submersible pumps and mixers for improved distribution of treatment chemicals, and installation of a control panel and instrumentation for better monitoring and management of treatment processes.

With a current capacity of 10,360 MLD and a daily average inflow of 5,000 MLD, the Olandes STP serves over 40,000 residents across Barangays Cinco Hermanos, Industrial Valley, Sitio Olandes, Blue Ridge, and Libis in Marikina and Quezon City.

“The completion of the Olandes STP enhancements marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to protect the environment and ensure compliance with stringent effluent standards. By adopting advanced nutrient removal technology, we are not only improving the quality of wastewater treatment but also safeguarding the health of our waterways and communities,” Manila Water Communication Affairs Group Director Jeric Sevilla said.

Moreover, upgrading the Olandes STP to improve its current BNR processes helps meet the stringent regulations of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for Class C wastewater, which supports marine life. This initiative is intended to ensure that wastewater treatment facilities follow BNR process standards, ultimately leading to cleaner and safer bodies of water.
