John Lineker Determined to Beat Kevin Belingon to Earn Title Shot: ‘I Don’t Think He Can Stop Me’

With his eyes firmly set on putting together another knockout performance this Friday night, #5-ranked ONE bantamweight and former UFC veteran John “Hands of Stone” Lineker is determined to beat former titleholder and current #1-ranked contender Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon in order to signal his readiness to compete for the ONE World Title.

Lineker faces Belingon in the main event of ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III, a previously-recorded event from Singapore scheduled for air on Friday, 13 November.

Lineker, who earned a reputation as a hard-hitting knockout artist, wants to prove to the world that he should be next to face fellow Brazilian Bibiano Fernandes, who currently holds the ONE Bantamweight World Title.

“I am coming into ONE Championship prepared for anyone. I am ready to go against [Belingon]. I don’t think he can stop me. He is definitely one of the toughest opponents I have faced,” said Lineker.

“I am feeling great and ready for my next bout. My preparation for Belingon has been one of the best of my career, and I believe I am going to be able to show what I came here for, and that is to be the World Champion in ONE Championship.”

Lineker, who comes from Paranaguá, Paraná in Brazil, wants to build off his latest performance, a one-sided drubbing of highly-regarded Muin Gafurov in his ONE Championship debut last October 2019.

Against Belingon, however, Lineker will face a menacing threat with a penchant for highlight-reel finishes.

In many ways, Lineker is taking on a man with a similar fighting style. The two are known finishers. Nearly half of Lineker’s 32 career victories have ended in thrilling knockout wins, while Belingon owns some of the most incredible knockouts in ONE Championship.

But one area Lineker holds a decided advantage over Belingon is in experience, and he’s used that wisdom to prepare himself for a wily opponent.

“I studied lots of his videos. He seems to be a very versatile opponent. He likes to keep punching, he moves very well, but I think he is going to look for the exchanges. This is his style, just like mine. I’m going to look for a knockout in this fight and I know I can get the best out of the exchanges,” said Lineker.

“Maybe after our fight, I can win over some fans from the Philippines because of my performance.”

ONE Championship returns this Friday night, 13 November with ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III. The event will also see performances from Belingon’s Team Lakay brethren in former flyweight king Geje Eustaquio, and rising star Lito Adiwang.

Elsewhere on the card is the much-anticipated MMA debut of 2-time former ADCC World Champion, Yuri Simoes.

Lineker believes that by beating Belingon, he could set himself up against reigning champion Fernandes in an all-Brazilian showdown.

“I want the world champion. I don’t think there would be a reason for them not to give him to me if I am fighting the #1 contender. And if I beat [Belingon], that should be the way to go,” said Lineker.

“I know Bibiano is a tough opponent, he has high-level jiu-jitsu, but no one can stop me at the moment. I know I have the edge. I am working really hard [to get that World Title], and I will get it.”

Watch the event this Friday, 13 November on One Sports+ at 8:30 p.m. Philippine Standard Time (PHT). One Sports will air the event on a same-day delay at 9 p.m. PHT. Additionally, TV5 will air the event on a next-day delay at 11 p.m. PHT.

Geje Eustaquio Wants to Prove He’s Still a Top Five Competitor in a Stacked Flyweight Division

Former ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio of the Philippines has been sitting quietly in the corner, watching the division’s top athletes move swiftly through the rankings. The 31-year-old veteran is, however, quick to establish that he’s still as dangerous as ever, and wants to remind everyone of who he is as a fighter in his next outing.

Eustaquio is set to face South Korean national champion “Running Man” Song Ming Jong at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III, a previously-recorded event from Singapore scheduled for air on Friday, 13 November. The bout will be contested at a 64kg catchweight.

The Team Lakay pioneer remains fixated on earning another shot at the ONE Flyweight World Title, and wants to use Song as a springboard into the rankings.

“Nothing has changed for me. I’m still grinding everyday and honing my arsenal. My goal is and has always been the belt, that’s my motivation to keep going. I feel like I still deserve to be in the top five, and I want to prove that in this next fight,” said Eustaquio.

“I think this performance is very important for me, because I want to show fans that I still exist. Maybe they forgot. I’m here to remind them of the kind of fighter that I am. I’m excited to be back in my office.”

Against Song, Eustaquiao faces a highly-regarded ONE Warrior Series product riding a four-bout win streak. Song is also the former Road FC Flyweight Champion, so Eustaquio knows not to underestimate him.

The Team Lakay stalwart fully expects Song to come into this bout in his best condition and looking for the upset. He plans to use Song’s aggression against him, and dominate him in all areas.

“With a chance to move up the ladder, I expect him to come in hungry, motivated, and eager to win. That’s why I have to be very careful,” said Eustaquio.

“I believe I am more experienced. I think that will be my edge in this fight. The level of competition that I have faced is different, and a whole lot harder compared to him. That said, I will be looking for the finish – whether it be standing up or on the ground. Expect the unexpected. This is mixed martial arts, and anything can happen. But like in my last match, I am aiming for a finish once more.”

ONE Championship returns with ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III, a previously-recorded event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore for global broadcast this Friday night, 13 November. In the main event, former ONE Bantamweight World Champion and #1-ranked bantamweight contender Kevin “The Silencer” Belingon of the Philippines faces #5-ranked bantamweight contender John “Hands of Stone” Lineker of Brazil.

Eustaquio fully recognizes that this fight is a pivotal juncture in his ONE Championship tenure. It will signal if he truly is worthy to be counted among the best, or if he needs to reevaluate his situation.

As such, he’s prepared himself extensively to give a good performance, and he promises fans they won’t be disappointed.

“This is a very important point of my career. In every competition, we treat it as the most important – and this one is no different, especially since I want to get back to the top of the flyweight division,” said Eustaquio,

“We don’t come in fights unprepared. We go in there and give it our all. We persevere. We give our blood and sweat just to make sure we come in prepared regardless of who’s in front of us. That’s our culture and attitude in Team Lakay.”

PHT.

Team Lakay Coach Mark Sangiao on Adjusting to the Difficulties of Covid-19, Training Amidst a Pandemic

When ONE Championship had announced its return to its flagship event schedule, martial arts fans in the Philippines knew it wouldn’t be long until they were able to see their favorite Filipino athletes be back inside the ONE Circle, doing what they do best.

Needless to say, the journey has certainly been a difficult one. When lockdowns due to the widespread outbreak of Covid-19 began in early March, gyms were closed down and athletes were forced to stay inside their homes, just like the rest of the world. Plans for any events had to be put on hold, and athletes needed to find ways to adjust to the ‘new normal.’

One man tasked with leading the Philippines’ most prolific martial arts outfit, Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao, would take the circumstances as a challenge to overcome.

“It was challenging trying to find productive alternative training methods to keep our athletes well conditioned. There’s a hard balance to strike, because it wasn’t only about facing a health crisis. We were facing an economic crisis as well. Our athletes had to find a way to survive, and so did our gym,” said Sangiao.

“The first thing I told my fighters was to be careful, and to take care of themselves and follow the government’s regulations. It’s so tempting, being in Baguio City, to go out and explore nature and train outdoors. But it’s important that we abide by the rules and stay inside our own homes.”

Team Lakay is a close-knit group, woven with world championship experience in its travelled veterans, and youthful energy in its rising young stars. Sangiao is known not only as a martial arts coach, but for many, a brother and a father.

The relationship with his athletes extended far beyond the four walls of the gym, and it was hard for Sangiao to not be there in person to guide them through a tough stretch. Regardless, the team did their best to cope with the situation.

“It was hard spending time away from them and not being able to guide them personally. We never failed to constantly communicate online, and I always checked up on them during their home training. I also asked them to post their training regimens online for accountability,” said Sangiao.

“Now, the moment we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. They all have appearances in the Circle lined up. Of course, we still strictly comply with all health protocols being implemented. Right now, it’s about being smart and training smart.”

And of course, as soon as they were allowed to return to their beloved gym in La Trinidad, Benguet, the warriors of Team Lakay were all determined to work as hard as they could to prepare for their upcoming bouts.

“I would say the training has been solid, and the athletes are more eager than before. We’re all excited to head back to action after a long hiatus. It was fun to train at home when early in the lockdowns, but as soon as regulations eased, we went back to the gym,” said Sangiao.

“Working as a team, developing our skills together, that’s when we are the strongest. We can conduct our regular sparring sessions, which is a crucial component of our training.”

Sangiao has been in Singapore, helping his wards prepare for their matches while traversing various health and safety protocols put in place by ONE Championship, in partnership with the Singapore Government. The Team Lakay head coach says he’s satisfied with how ONE has handled the events, experiencing it firsthand in the Lion City.

“I am thankful and glad with the way ONE Championship has handled the operations in Singapore. It’s very professional, and they really place a lot of importance on following health and safety protocols. I think it’s great for our athletes, because they have that peace of mind that they are being well taken care of. We have everything we need during quarantine, and all very happy to be back in Singapore,” said Sangiao.

“I am so happy and grateful that even in this pandemic, our athletes are still able to showcase their skills and what they’ve been working on.”

Catch ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III this Friday, 13 November on One Sports+ at 8:30 p.m. Philippine Standard Time (PHT). One Sports will air the event on a same-day delay at 9 p.m. PHT. Additionally, TV5 will air the event on a next-day delay at 11 p.m. PHT.

“This event is a great sign that, slowly, things are getting back to normal — not the usual normal, but still, we can see significant progress away from this pandemic. It is great news indeed for ONE Championship and for our athletes. We are hoping that more events will be staged and gradually will be held in more countries around the world,” Sangiao concluded.

Team Lakay Phenom Lito Adiwang Inching Towards World Title Conversation

ONE Championship #5-ranked strawweight contender Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang of the Philippines is one of the most explosive mixed martial artists in the world today. He’s arguably the promotion’s fastest rising star, and this Friday night, Adiwang gets the opportunity to continue his rise through the ranks in a highly-anticipated return to the ONE Circle.

Adiwang will take on former Shooto Champion Hiroba Minowa of Japan in a three-round strawweight mixed martial arts contest at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX III, a previously-recorded event from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore, scheduled for global air this Friday, 13 November.

The Team Lakay proponent is currently riding a seven-bout winning streak, with all but one of those seven wins coming by way of exciting finish. Needless to say, all eyes are on Adiwang’s next performance, and he needs just a handful of victories left before he enters the title conversation.

“I feel like I only need a few more wins to be considered a title contender, especially sitting in the top five right now. But of course, I’ll let ONE Championship decide whether I’m ready or not. I just have to focus on getting better with each fight. That’s my main goal,” said Adiwang.

“I am happy to be labelled as one of Team Lakay’s next biggest stars. I’m on my way to proving that I deserve this status, and I want to make all of my dreams present and reality. It’s a long, hard road to the top, but I’m willing to give whatever it takes to reach my dreams.”

Against Minowa, Adiwang faces a formidable foe who sports a similar professional record and a common career trajectory. Just like Adiwang, Minowa is a proven finisher, having ended all 10 of his victories inside the distance, along the way capturing a Shooto Strawweight World Championship.

Minowa is making his ONE Championship debut and wants to shake things up in a big way. A win over one of the promotion’s most promising talents in Adiwang would certainly make waves in the division.

“Fans can expect an exciting and a good show every time I step into the Circle. I will always give my best in every fight. I want to thank everyone for their support. It means a lot to me,” said Adiwang.

“I’m not taking Minowa lightly. I know he is a good finisher, just like I am. So I can’t get caught. I have to maintain my concentration heading into this. If I can beat him decisively, I think that should move me up in the rankings. I’m looking forward to a good, fun fight.”

Of course, there’s that lingering problem up top. The current king of the strawweight division is Adiwang’s teammate, reigning ONE Strawweight World Champion Joshua “The Passion” Pacio. While both men and their shared camp haven’t completely ruled out a battle between the two for the World Title, Adiwang would rather not have to face his ‘brother’ in the Circle.

A move up in weight is an option for Adiwang, but he says we’re still way ahead of that discussion.

“For now, it’s still too early to say because I’m focused on clearing out the division. I’ll let the future decide,” said Adiwang.

“If I can get a few more wins, maybe spark up that conversation a little bit, then we’ll see when we get there. Right now, I have a very dangerous opponent in front of me in Minowa. I can’t underestimate him.”

PHT.

Brandon Vera Predicts Aung La Makes Easy Work of De Ridder, Willing to Give ‘The Burmese Python’ a Shot at Heavyweight Title

Reigning ONE Heavyweight World Champion Brandon “The Truth” Vera of the Philippines is one of the most dominant world champions in ONE Championship history. He’s a cage veteran who has faced the biggest names in the sport, including guys like Randy Couture, Fabricio Werdum, Frank Mir, and even Jon Jones.

When Vera came over to ONE Championship from the UFC, he instantly made a mark, winning his first four fights for the promotion, capturing the heavyweight belt in the process. It wasn’t until he tried his hand at the light heavyweight title, held by Myanmar’s “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang just last year, when Vera finally tasted defeat.

This Friday night, Aung La will see action against undefeated Dutch fighter Reinier “The Dutch Knight” De Ridder in the main event of ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX, which broadcasts live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore on 30 October.

Vera, like a true fan of “The Burmese Python”, will be watching intently from his home in Guam, and has made his pick for the winner very obvious.

“Of course, I have Aung La winning this fight,” said Vera.

“I’m very excited to watch the champ-champ compete again and do his thing. De Ridder better be in shape. Try and not let Aung La hit you.”

While many fans and observers expect the Aung La-De Ridder showdown to be an action-packed affair, Vera sees it differently. After sharing the Circle with the two-division ONE World Champion, Vera knows exactly how Aung La fights and operates.

“The Truth” makes a bold prediction, that De Ridder will be easy pickings for the Myanmar legend.

“I don’t think this fight is going to be a war. The champ has grown past that. You might see flashes and bangs, even booms when needed,” said Vera.

“But working with his team at Sanford MMA and Coach Henri Hooft, he is becoming a refined warrior. Technique plus power is what you are going to witness this Friday night.”

One of Vera’s biggest goals in his career was to become a two-division World Champion. Which is why he challenged Aung La for the light heavyweight belt in the first place. However, those dreams were squashed after he was sent back with a devastating second round knockout care of “The Burmese Python” himself.

When asked whether or not he would like to challenge Aung La again, Vera had an interesting but firm response.

“No way! I am never cutting back down again, ever! I’m done with weight cutting in my career,” said Vera.

“But man, I’d give anyone a shot at the heavyweight title if they are in line and challenging, champ-champ included. Of course, he gave me a shot at his championship belt. It would probably seem rude not to. Aung La is #1 right now. He’s the GOAT at ONE.”

ONE Championship returns on Friday, 30 October with ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX, broadcast live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore. The blockbuster features four World Title bouts for a total of six compelling martial arts contests.

In the main event, reigning ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight World Champion “The Burmese Python” Aung La N Sang of Myanmar defends his middleweight title against top contender Reinier “The Dutch Knight” de Ridder of The Netherlands.

Eduard Folayang Responds to Retirement Talks: It’s Not in My Vocabulary

Fans say 2-time former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the Philippines is at a crossroads in his career. Veteran Philippine fight scribes certainly seem to back that train of thought.

Having lost three of his last four bouts, Folayang is in a must-win situation against an unranked lightweight contender in Australia’s Antonio “The Spartan” Caruso. The two meet at the center of the ONE Circle at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX, happening this Friday, 30 October, and broadcast live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

The 36-year-old Team Lakay stalwart is excited to turn some heads and prove that he still has what it takes to make a run at the world title. Folayang has responded to talks of retirement with a display of confidence, and is coming into his next bout with positivity.

The Filipino icon can’t wait to show fans how much he’s gotten better, even at his age.

“I know there are a lot of people who think I should retire, especially if I lose this fight against Antonio Caruso. That’s understandable. But the word retirement is not yet in my vocabulary. I believe there is still a lot of potential to be unleashed,” said Folayang.

“I am a true martial artist, and I’m constantly learning even at this age. We have a saying in Team Lakay, ‘you win or you learn.’ This means I am constantly getting better with every fight.”

Folayang is currently in Singapore now with Team Lakay head coach Mark Sangiao, and several of his teammates. Together, they’ve experienced firsthand how ONE Championship has been able to implement strict health and safety protocols in order to make this event possible in a new Covid-19 world.

From the moment the team had stepped into the international airport in Manila, to the moment they arrived in their hotel rooms, every process has been strictly controlled. Folayang shines some light on those processes.

“There are a lot of rules that need to be followed and everything is very strictly controlled. But that’s a good thing. ONE Championship has really done an amazing job working with the Singapore Government, and everything has been great so far,” said Folayang.

“There are a lot of documents required, constant swab testing, personal detail and escort going to and from the hotel, temperature checks at every juncture, and of course, room quarantine. We’re still able to train, move around and do our thing, but what happens is we’re isolated with only a certain group of people. This limits our exposure.”

Folayang is confident of victory, and he is also confident humanity can get past its current situation. To the 36-year-old “Landslide,” it’s all about keeping the right mindset in the face of tough challenges, just as he has done all throughout his career.

“We all have a choice how we approach our problems. The world will throw stuff at us, different challenges, but it’s always up to the individual how to deal with those challenges. Do we rise up to face them? Or do we fold? I choose to be positive and think of the good things that will come through after this pandemic is over,” said Folayang.

“There’s a lot to look forward to, and I’m hopeful for the future.”

Should Eduard Folayang Ride Off Into the Sunset? Veteran Journalists Weigh In

2-time former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the Philippines is a global martial arts superstar, and has been the face of Philippine mixed martial arts for years. His epic performances inside the ONE Circle have inspired many, and to this day, he continues to make a run toward a third title reign.

But having lost three of his last four contests, are Folayang’s best days behind him? Many fans and experts believe that Folayang should consider hanging up his gloves and riding off into the sunset.

The 36-year-old martial arts icon is currently in Singapore, making the final preparations for his next bout, a three round mixed martial arts contest against Australia’s Antonio “The Spartan” Caruso. The bout will take place at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX, scheduled for live global broadcast on Friday, 30 October from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

Three of the Philippines’ most well-respected fight scribes have weighed in on Folayang’s career moving forward.

Dennis Gasgonia of ABS CBN News believes Folayang should consider calling it a career, especially if he loses against Caruso, who is currently an unranked lightweight contender.

“The competition at lightweight is actually getting stiffer with new guys coming in. This diminishes Folayang’s chances of getting another title shot. But I know Folayang becoming champion again is something Filipino fans want to see,” said Gasgonia.

“I don’t know if it will still be doable at this stage of his game, but he needs to add to his unpredictability. Some of his opponents can already read his moves, making him vulnerable to getting knocked out. He should retire and think about his future if he loses against an unranked fighter.”

Bong Lozada of Inquirer Sports, who has covered Folayang’s career extensively over the years, shares similar sentiments. Lozada, however, believes Folayang needs a spectacular performance in order to keep his world title dreams alive.

“This is do-or-die for Eduard Folayang, put it simply. There’s no denying that Folayang is up there in the years but for him to get back to the title picture that he’s always wanted, he should beat Anthony Caruso convincingly and a split decision won’t cut it,” said Lozada.

Folayang was already 32 years of age when he stopped Shinya Aoki in 2016. He captured the vacant lightweight belt against Amir Khan two years later. He nearly knocked out former UFC Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez last year before getting submitted.

Folayang has no doubt faced some of the top lightweights in the world over the course of his 13 year professional career. To suffer defeat at the hands of Caruso would be devastating, according to Lozada.

“Make no mistake, Folayang was one of the best lightweights of his era in ONE Championship instilling fear with his devastating striking. But age has ultimately caught up to him and he went 1-3 in his past four fights, which did significant damage to his notoriety. Folayang hasn’t had a stoppage victory since his win against Shinya Aoki when he claimed the lightweight title and that was the fight that people say was the best version of the ‘Landslide,’ when he just absolutely brutalized the Japanese legend,” Lozada added.

“Folayang still has the champion’s mentality and that will be his biggest strength against the faster and more athletic stars of the division. He still has power, he nearly knocked Eddie Alvarez out, but as nature intended his speed has also come down with age. He said that the fight against Caruso is a new start and he needs to string three or four wins to get back to the title race.”

https://www.instagram.com/p/BmimZHVjcOp/

According to JM Siasat of GMA News, who has a very close relationship with Folayang, the Team Lakay veteran still has much to offer the sport.

“I think Eduard Folayang, at this point in his career, is at a crossroads. His performance against Antonio Caruso will dictate whether or not he is still capable of entering the world title picture,” said Siasat.

“Yes he lost three of his last four fights. But if we go back and analyze those fights, they were very close and could have gone either way. They weren’t career-ending losses. All things considered, Folayang has performed very well recently, despite the losses.”

Siasat believes Folayang did very well against third-ranked lightweight Pieter Buist, in particular, which he lost via close split decision, and also against Amarsanaa Tsogookhuu, a bout which ended in a technical decision victory for the Filipino due to injury.

“It was Chatri [Sityodtong] who even said he saw Folayang outclass Eddie Alvarez before making a mistake. Like I said, his recent losses weren’t career-ending. They were very close fights. Do I think he should retire if he loses to Caruso? I think Eduard Folayang, at 36 years old, still has a lot left in the tank,” said Siasat.

“Just because Caruso is unranked, doesn’t mean he is an unworthy opponent. He’s still dangerous. However, if he does lose this next fight, it will tell us that he is no longer a world title caliber athlete. Now, that could be a reason to retire, but it doesn’t mean he can no longer fight. At 36 years old, he can still fight. But is he the same fighter he was when he defeated Shinya Aoki in Singapore in 2016? No he’s not. He’s aging. No matter what sport you belong to, nobody ever beats Father Time.”

Folayang returns to action on Friday, 30 October at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX. The event features four World Title matchups for a total of six compelling martial arts contests.

Two-division ONE World Champion Aung La N Sang defends his ONE Middleweight World Title against the undefeated Reinier De Ridder in the main event, while ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian Lee takes on number-one contender Iuri Lapicus in a battle between fierce finishers in the co-main event.

Knockout artists Martin Nguyen and Thanh Le collide with Nguyen’s ONE Featherweight World Title on the line. And ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion Xiong Jing Nan meets Singapore’s very own Tiffany Teo in an epic rematch.

Siasat, for one, thinks Folayang is still a force to be reckoned with at lightweight, regardless of how many fights he’s lost in recent times.

“The crossroads comes with the decision to continue. Do you decide to continue knowing you no longer have the ability to compete for a world title? At the end of the day, fighting is his livelihood. Win or lose, he can still continue to fight. It’s just a matter of determining now if he’s still a legit world title contender,” Siasat concluded.

“Then again, if Folayang puts in a statement making victory against Caruso, and we see a vintage performance, just maybe he can get back into world title contention. If he dominates this fight and wins it convincingly, he can break the top 5 rankings again. If he loses badly against Caruso, then retirement is an option.”

ONE Championship Holds Special Virtual Media Day for Eduard Folayang and Antonio Caruso

The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), today held a special Virtual Media Day for 3-time ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard “Landslide” Folayang of the Philippines and his opponent, Antonio “The Spartan” Caruso of Australia. Also joining the Virtual Media Day was ONE Championship Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong.

Folayang and Caruso will go head-to-head at ONE: INSIDE THE MATRIX, which broadcasts live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore on Friday, 30 October.

Chatri Sityodtong, Chairman and CEO of ONE Championship, stated: “I’m looking forward to Eduard Folayang and Antonio Caruso, in addition, of course, to the four World Title fights. I want to express my gratitude to the Singapore Government for leading a way for ONE championship in bringing back global events, world-class global events and leading Asia for that matter. Eduard is a phenomenal athlete, obviously a World Champion and you know wins and losses happen to every athlete. Whenever I look and talk to Eduard, I see that he’s hungrier than ever. He’s always improving his skill set, so I think there are many times in the last few years when Eduard Folayang was written off by some of the haters but the truth is he’s still very fresh, strong, athletic, and intelligent. Eduard can take any lightweight in the world, on any given night.”

Eduard Folayang, 3-time ONE Lightweight World Champion, stated: “Every athlete I face at this level is well-prepared. I’m getting ready for the best Antonio Caruso. During the lockdown, I got to spend a lot of time with my family, with my kids, training with them in the house. I feel reenergized and now I’m ready. We have a saying in the Philippines that ‘only Carabaos get old.’ So you know, I think, it’s just like a fish swimming in water. If you take the fish out, it will die. I’m already in this sport and I’m enjoying it. I believe I’m still fresh.”

Antonio Caruso, ONE Athlete, stated: “I want to achieve everything Eduard has achieved. He’s a legend in this division, he’s a legend of this sport, and he’s a legend of his country. That’s exactly what I want to do. To do that, you have to beat a legend. And I’m coming on the 30th to become a legend just like he is. Make way for a new challenger in the lightweight division. Of course, a quick fight is a good fight. The quicker we can get in and out, the better, but at the end of the day, we’d have to go in there. Eduard’s a tough guy. He’s a legend for a reason. He’s been around a long time for a reason. I’d like to take him out as quick as possible, but at the same time, I’m ready to go the full distance with him.”
