Chatri Sityodtong’s Triumphant Tale of Overcoming Adversity Detailed in New Short Biopic, I AM A WARRIOR

The life story of ONE Championship’s charismatic Chairman and CEO, Chatri Sityodtong, is one that has been covered extensively by media all around the world. It’s one of the most inspiring tales of triumph over adversity and hardship, and perseverance despite overwhelming odds.

Sityodtong overcame extreme poverty and dire life circumstances when his family was hit hard by the Asian financial crisis in Thailand. Through sheer grit, hard work, and a passion for martial arts, Sityodtong used his suffering and strife to fuel his drive for success.

The Thai-Japanese businessman eventually established ONE Championship, uniting the over 4 billion people in Asia to celebrate its ‘greatest cultural treasure.’

In the recently released short film, I AM A WARRIOR, Sityodtong gives viewers an inside look on his childhood, how he was first drawn to the ancient Thai martial art of Muay Thai, unlocking his physical and mental capabilities through rigorous training, and surviving on $4 on a day-to-day basis while studying at Harvard University.

With input from Sityodtong’s own mother, Michiyo Komatsu, college best friend Saurabh Mittal, martial artists like Almiro Barros, Singtongnoi Por Telakun, and Papa Daorung, whose lives he touched and changed in his journey, I AM A WARRIOR provides viewers a unique and interesting POV into Sityodtong’s life.

Ultimately, it tells the story of how Sityodtong used his suffering and failure to unleash his greatness, inspiring others to chase their own dreams and embark on their own journey of self-discovery. It’s an extraordinary story about suffering, sacrifice, and success.

Sam-A Gaiyanghadao Finishes Josh Tonna by Technical Knockout to Retain ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title

Complete Results for ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES

Singapore: The largest global sports media property in Asian history, ONE Championship™ (ONE), made a triumphant return to the Singapore Indoor Stadium last Friday night, 9 October. ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES was an audience-free, behind-closed-doors blockbuster that featured the absolute best in local and international martial arts talent.

In the main event of the evening, reigning ONE Strawweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Champion Sam-A Gaiyanghadao of Thailand successfully retained his Muay Thai World Title behind a near-flawless performance against ISKA K-1 World Champion and number one ranked contender Josh “Timebomb” Tonna of Australia. Sam-A appeared composed and relaxed to start the bout, delivering a volley of fast boxing combinations and high round kicks in the first round. In the beginning of the second, Sam-A dropped Tonna with a bullet-like left straight, sending the Australian to a mandatory 8-count. Sensing he had his opponent hurt, Sam-A poured on the pressure and dropped Tonna two more times en route to a technical knockout victory.

Former ONE World Title challenger and current fifth-ranked flyweight Reece “Lightning” McLaren of Australia may have boosted himself up the divisional ladder based on his most recent showing. The Gold Coast native drew up a dominant performance, knocking out 3-time IBJJF No-Gi European Champion Aleksi “The Giant” Toivonen of Finland in the first round. McLaren was lightning fast to start the contest, staggering his opponent with a thudding right hand that sent Toivonen to the canvas. Against the fence, McLaren connected on a well-placed knee to the midsection, sending Toivonen back to the mat for good, writhing in pain to force the finish.

Former ONE World Title challenger Amir Khan of Singapore authored a stunning knockout victory, stopping Rahul “The Kerala Krusher” Raju of India in the first round. Khan looked comfortable with his striking and appeared more than ready for a war as soon as the two men began to trade. Raju was able to close the distance on a few occasions, taking Khan down to the mat. The Singaporean, however, made it back up to his feet easily each time and began to wear on Raju with his pressure. Against the Circle fence, Khan connected on a slicing elbow that sent Raju crashing to the mat. A torrent of ground strikes then ended matters abruptly in the first round.

Multiple-time Indonesian national wrestling champion Eko Roni Saputra put forth a spectacular performance, dominating ONE Championship newcomer Murugan “Wolverine” Silvarajoo of Malaysia to earn a first-round finish. At the sound of the opening bell, Saputra quickly chased Silvarajoo across the Circle. The Indonesian unloaded a series of powerful boxing combinations against the fence, as Silvarajoo covered up. Taking the Malaysian down to the mat, Saputra smoothly advanced to the bout-ending submission, using his feet to tweak Silvarajoo’s shoulder in a highly-technical joint lock maneuver to force the tap shortly after.

In a strawweight mixed martial arts contest, China’s “Wolf of the Grasslands” Hexigetu scored a huge victory over Muay Thai legend and former ONE World Champion Dejdamrong Sor Amnuaysirichoke of Thailand, showcasing his superior wrestling for three rounds. The two athletes exchanged blows constantly on the feet, with Dejdamrong stalking Hexigetu while the Chinese athlete picked his spots. The “Wolf of the Grasslands” would take his opponent down consistently in every round, which weighed heavily on the judges’ decision. In the end, Hexigetu did just enough to earn the split decision victory on the scorecards.

Kicking off the action at ONE: REIGN OF DYNASTIES, rising Indian flyweight star Roshan Mainam put together a solid all-around performance, blasting opponent Liu Peng Shuai of China with combinations on the feet before finishing him off in the second round. Mainam and Liu spent a few moments trading strikes at the center of the Circle in the first. But as soon as action hit the mat, Mainam immediately went to work, taking Liu’s back and then sinking in a rear-naked choke. With the choke in deep, the Chinese athlete had no choice but to tap out.

Team Lakay Athletes Enjoying Baguio City’s Environmental Recovery During Lockdown

Baguio City is known as the summer capital of the Philippines. Citizens flock to the mountain city to enjoy its cool weather, fresh mountain air, and lush greenery.

It’s a place where nature is very much alive. It’s also home to the famed Team Lakay.

Former World Champions Eduard “Landslide” Folayang and Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio, both mixed martial arts veterans competing for Singapore-based martial arts organization, ONE Championship, weighed in on the current state of their hometown during the Covid-19 pandemic, and they’re loving nature’s return to form.

“This lockdown period was great for the local community because it became a lot quieter. There was no traffic or pollution,” said Folayang.

“The environment hit the reset button and allowed nature to flourish. It was a good opportunity for the environment to recover.”

For Eustaquio, seeing his hometown in such a calm and relaxed state brings back memories of his childhood, when a then-Baguio City was just beginning to develop.

“It’s fun to experience this once in a lifetime. Movement in Baguio City is easy now. There’s no traffic, and the environment is even more beautiful now than ever. It looks so much better than before,” said Eustaquio.

“The environment has recovered very quickly. Certain types of birds are back, and you can see living nature right inside the city. When I was a kid, I could see these animals and plants, until they slowly disappeared due to pollution. Baguio City went through a lot of urban development which had an adverse effect on nature. Now, nature is making a comeback.”

Every year, Baguio City welcomes nearly 2 million tourists every year, mostly coming from urbanized areas like Manila and surrounding towns. Hotels, mountain resorts, homestays, restaurants offering local Baguio cuisine — even street vendors selling various locally-made trinkets and souvenirs, are all heavily-reliant on outside visitors bringing in revenue.

Due to nationwide lockdowns brought about by the effect of the Covid-19 pandemic, however, Baguio City’s local economy was hit particularly hard.

Though Folayang and Eustaquio both appreciate nature’s wonderful recovery in their hometown, the two Team Lakay veterans also understand how important it is for Baguio City to gradually reopen its gates back up to outsiders in order for its local economy to recover.

“I think for Baguio City, tourism has always been very important. It’s one of the top tourist destinations in the country. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, Baguio City had to close its doors. Local businesses suffered and a lot of people lost their jobs,” said Folayang.

“As things start to reopen now, I am sure it will give a much needed boost to the local economy and things will start to get busy again.”

“Tourism is the bread and butter of Baguio City. Hotels, restaurants — literally everything suffered because of the pandemic. For our community, it is very important that tourism restarts in Baguio City and goes back to normal,” Eustaquio concluded.

Lito Adiwang Says He’s More of a Johnny Lawrence After Watching Cobra Kai

ONE Warrior Series contract winner and rising ONE Championship strawweight star Lito “Thunder Kid” Adiwang of the Philippines is one of the most explosive talents on the roster. He’s also a legit martial artist with well-rounded skills to match his infectious smile and charisma.

With Netflix’s “Cobra Kai” series trending over the past few weeks, Adiwang couldn’t help but share his thoughts on the show after watching it. After all, he does consider himself a huge fan of the original 1980’s “Karate Kid” franchise.

“The pride and honor of martial arts should be shared with the world. Martial arts has helped me achieve my dreams and see the world,” said Adiwang.

“I’m very happy that a show like Cobra Kai can spark interest in martial arts, my sport. It’s not just about fighting. I learned at a very young age that martial arts was really a way of life for me.”

Cobra Kai picks up 30 years after the original series ended with “The Karate Kid III.” Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) is a successful businessman, while the series’ antagonist, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), is an angry and unemployed drunk estranged from his son. The story takes a quick turn when Johnny meets high school student Miguel Diaz (Xolo Maridueña), and teaches him Karate so he can defend himself against bullies.

Johnny eventually decides to reestablish the Cobra Kai dojo and starts to piece his life back together. It’s an interesting and refreshing take on the classic story, showing things from a new perspective.

Adiwang, like many, has enjoyed experiencing the story through Johnny’s eyes.

“I identify with Johnny mostly, because in the end, he made the choice to redeem himself. Everyone has good and bad sides, but we can always choose to use our talents for a better purpose,” said Adiwang.

“In the original movies, Daniel played the character of a bullied kid who learned Karate to defend himself. He eventually won the Karate tournament, which was great but after watching some of Cobra Kai, I think I like Johnny’s character more. My belief is that, it’s not how you start things, but rather how you end things that really matters. It’s how you can use your greatness to impact others.”

Adiwang himself is the perfect embodiment of an elite martial artist. He is both extremely skilled and honorable.

Yet apart from being one of the most talented fighters in ONE Championship, currently climbing through the ranks one explosive finish after another, Adiwang also believes he showcases the pride and honor of martial arts with every performance.

More than that, Adiwang says martial arts has given him a gift that he wants to share with other people.

“In my own life, I’ve made it a point to show honor to my family and the people who care for me. Now that I’m a fighter, a martial arts instructor, I also want to share the true meaning of martial arts with others,” said Adiwang.

“I want to protect this tradition and use it in a good way, helping others by teaching them the true values of martial arts — that it’s a discipline to be learned and understood, which will then improve the quality of life.”

Teenage Mixed Martial Arts Prodigy Victoria Lee Signs with ONE Championship

Women’s mixed martial arts prodigy Victoria Lee, younger sister of ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee and ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian “The Warrior” Lee, has signed with ONE Championship. ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced the news on his official social media accounts.

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3453609988034471

“I feel extremely excited and motivated to be part of the world’s largest martial arts organization, ONE Championship. Inspired by watching my older brother and sister compete on the biggest global stage of martial arts competition, I am ready to take my career to the next level and compete with the world’s best martial arts athletes. I want to thank my parents for teaching me and guiding me, and for allowing me to chase my dreams. I promise all the fans that I will continue to train hard and develop my skills, and that I’ll be ready when I get the call to step inside the ONE Circle,” said Victoria Lee.

Born into a family of World Champion martial artists, Lee was introduced to martial arts by her parents, who both trained and developed her skills from a young age. Following in the footsteps of sister Angela and brother Christian, Lee is considered one of the top female mixed martial arts prospects in the world.

At just 16 years old, Lee already boasts of a growing list of impressive accolades. This list includes a 2019 IMMAF Junior World Championship, two Pankration Junior World Championships, and a 2019 Hawaii State Wrestling Championship, among others. She is also a 15-time NAGA Expert Champion.

At such a young age, Lee has already accomplished much in her career thus far. But by joining ONE Championship, she enters an organization teeming with the world’s best martial arts talent.

Angela, for one, says Victoria is a better version of herself at her age, and is excited for Victoria to take the world by storm.

“I am so happy for Victoria and extremely proud of her. She is a very gifted and driven young woman. She told us that this is her dream – to be a professional fighter – and as a family, we are going to support her fully. Victoria is a gifted athlete and everyone will be witness to that when she makes her debut. Throughout time, there have been a handful of gifted young Olympians, many years younger than their competitors, but they managed to rise above and shine through with their god-given talent, dedication, and hard work. I have confidence in our Coach, our family and in Victoria that she is ready for this next level of competition,” said Angela Lee.

“Victoria is learning the same things today as me, the 5-time ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion and our brother, the ONE Lightweight World Champion! Mixed martial arts is meant to evolve and we as athletes must adapt and evolve with it. Victoria is a part of this next generation that has been born and raised with MMA as a whole. The transitions are seamless, there are no gaps. She is still learning and improving each day but yes, she is already much better than I was at her age. It also might help that in addition to our father, the Head Coach, she also has a team of sibling World Champions to help teach and guide her in the family trade.”

Victoria will join a stacked women’s atomweight division, where her older sister reigns as the division’s queen. Details on Victoria’s official ONE Championship debut will be announced at a later date.

Indeed, Rodtang has emerged as one of the most exciting martial arts superstars in Asia, since his debut in the world’s premier striking martial arts league. He’s unbeaten in ONE Super Series action, with eight thrilling victories on his resume.

“His strength is in his powerful strikes. He has powerful kicks and punches, and has that demolition style. He will come forward and put the pressure on his opponent, looking to destroy them with powerful combinations. But I think he has trouble when an opponent is good in countering and keeping the distance. He sometimes has difficulty landing when an opponent is elusive,” said Adiwang.

While “Thunder Kid” is certainly open to the idea of stepping into the ring in ONE Super Series, the Circle standout reaffirms that he is completely focused on his mixed martial arts career at the moment.

However, if the opportunity to face Rodtang would arise, Adiwang would jump all over the chance to stand across one of the men on top of his list of dream matchups.

“If me and Rodtang face each other somewhere down the line, I will do my best to shock the world. I want to prove to the world that even an ordinary boy can do extraordinary things if he just believes in himself, puts in the work, and dedicates himself to achieving his goals. I want that fantasy matchup to become a reality,” said Adiwang.

“My dream is to fight the best of the best and become a champion, and Rodtang is one of the fighters on my shortlist to test myself against. If we fight in Muay Thai, I know it’s going to be a good show. Of course I will do my best to get the victory. But if he ever plans to try MMA, I would love to be the one to welcome him into our world.”
