Schneider Electric Highlights Smarter Systems as Drivers of Continued Growth in Visayas and Mindanao

  • Schneider Electric said electrification, digitalization, and automation are already proving foundational for long-term resilience across the regions.
  • The company added that energy resilience has become a business imperative, as rapid development, tightening grid conditions, and global shifts highlight the need for reliable and efficient infrastructure to support long-term competitiveness.
  • Cross-sector collaboration is critical to scaling solutions, with Innovation Day Cebu serving as a platform to strengthen partnerships and advance sustainable infrastructure development.

With government, business, and industry leaders convening in Cebu, Innovation Day Philippines 2026 advanced the conversation on electrification, automation, and digitalization, and how Visayas and Mindanao are leading the energy transition. The Philippines’ energy challenges have long persisted, but the growing pace of investments, infrastructure expansion, and increasing power demands across the Visayas and Mindanao have made the need for smarter solutions more urgent. In response, Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy technology with nearly 190 years of innovation, is working alongside industries, building owners, and government agencies in the regions to advance more resilient energy systems through electrification, digitalization, and automation. During Innovation Day Philippines 2026: Powering Progress through Future-Ready Industries, held on June 24 at Bai Hotel in Mandaue City, the company showcased how these strategies can help drive sustainable progress across various sectors.

As the Visayas and Mindanao continue to draw investments and accelerate infrastructure development, the technologies underpinning this growth are advancing as well. Schneider Electric said it is supporting this transformation by promoting electrification, digitalization, and automation, which have become key drivers of long-term resilience and sustainable development across both regions.

“Together, this strategy provides organizations with greater visibility and control over energy use, enabling a more responsive and efficient approach to operations,” said Ireen Catane, Country President of Schneider Electric Philippines. “As energy reliability becomes increasingly critical, these capabilities help improve operational performance and efficiency.”

Building on the region’s momentum

As development accelerates, Visayas and Mindanao are already building the infrastructure foundation for long-term growth.

In Visayas, investment approvals reached PHP 27.96 billion across 22 projects in 2024, along with developments such as the New Cebu International Container Port and upgrades to the Bohol-Panglao International Airport. In Mindanao, World Bank-approved projects are expected to improve transport connectivity and health services for at least 19 million Filipinos. As these developments progress, their continued success will depend on energy infrastructure that is resilient, efficient, and intelligent; and managing demand has become as important as securing supply.

Recent power outlooks show the Visayas grid may continue experiencing yellow alerts despite imports from Luzon and Mindanao, while Mindanao’s reserve margins are also expected to tighten in coming years. Energy resilience is becoming a key factor in business continuity and long-term competitiveness across both regions.

Global pressures

During the event, Schneider Electric highlighted three global forces: rising electricity demand outpacing grid expansion, rapid digital transformation, and shifting supply chains that favor resilient and efficient regions. The company said sustainability has become a business requirement tied to efficiency, resilience, and competitiveness.

“Visayas and Mindanao are already in this environment. By understanding where and how energy is consumed, organizations in these regions can make better decisions that reduce costs, improve reliability, and support growth,” said Harold Lim, Country Solutions Head of Schneider Electric Philippines.

The case for collaborations

Innovation Day Philippines 2026 convened industry leaders, government officials, and developers for a day of dialogue on the future of energy and infrastructure in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Atty. Kvyn Honoridez delivered the keynote message on behalf of Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano, alongside Atty. Nancy Fajardo, Executive Director of the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC). Their addresses were followed by segment spotlights on grid modernization, urban development, and manufacturing automation.

Panel discussions and fireside chats featured Hon. Greg Gasataya, Mayor of Bacolod City; Anton Perdices, Chief Operations Officer – Distribution Utilities, AboitizPower Corporation; Engr. JP Claudio, Visayas and Mindanao Operations Director, Ayala Property Management Corporation; Engr. April Joy Medico, Economic Zone Deputy Administrator, Mactan Economic Zone; Felix Taguiam, Regional Governor for Central Visayas, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Allan Roy Calderon, SVP – Corporate Solutions Head, UnionBank of the Philippines, alongside Schneider Electric leaders. The event concluded with a call to action for stakeholders to collaborate on pilot projects and regional initiatives.

Building a more resilient energy future for the regions will take more than technology, it will need collaboration across government, regulators, and industry partners. “Strengthening partnerships across the public and private sectors is key to building systems that support long-term growth,” said Atty. Norman Ocana III, Head of Government Affairs of Schneider Electric Philippines.

With investments continuing to grow alongside increasing energy demands, the adoption of electrification, digitalization, and automation has become more essential than ever. Through Innovation Day in Cebu, Schneider Electric highlighted how these technologies can be implemented at scale, while showcasing the Visayas and Mindanao as key drivers of the country’s energy transition.

Recognized by TIME Magazine and Statista as the world’s most sustainable company for three consecutive years, and honored by Corporate Knights and Sustainability Magazine for its leadership in sustainability, Schneider Electric continues to support industries and institutions around the world in expanding access to clean electricity, lowering carbon emissions, and improving operational resilience.

Symphonic Asia Pacific brings together partners and music industry stakeholders through a Spotify Masterclass and artist showcase

From practical streaming insights to networking opportunities and live performances, the two events emphasized Symphonic’s commitment to empowering artists, labels, and music industry professionals in the Philippines

Symphonic Asia Pacific recently held two back-to-back initiatives focused on fostering collaboration and advancing music industry knowledge: the Spotify Masterclass and Symphonic Social Night. The events brought together Symphonic Distribution’s partner artists, labels, and other creative stakeholders at Sari-Sari Bar on June 18, 2026.

Spotify Masterclass

The day opened with the Spotify Masterclass, designed to provide artists and music professionals with practical insights into navigating today’s streaming landscape. Led by Spotify experts, the session covered essential Spotify for Artists tools, audience analytics, promotional features, digital growth strategies, and industry best practices to help participants strengthen their presence on the platform.

Participants include representatives from Underdog Music Asia, FlipMusic, Fire and Ice, Diorama FM, Groovy Garden Records, Music Monks, Playback Records, and acclaimed music icon Jim Paredes, among others.

“Symphonic’s goal is for participants to gain a clearer understanding of how to build sustainable careers, use available tools and platforms more effectively, and make informed decisions that support their long-term growth in the industry,” shares Guji Lorenzana, Director of A&R and Client Development, APAC, Symphonic Distribution. “The music industry is more accessible than ever, but it has also become increasingly complex. Artists today are expected to navigate distribution, marketing, analytics, branding, audience engagement, and business strategy, often simultaneously. Initiatives like the Symphonic x Spotify Masterclass help bridge the gap between access and understanding. By providing direct access to industry expertise, current best practices, and real-world experiences, these programs equip creators and professionals with the knowledge they need to make confident, strategic decisions. More importantly, they foster community.”

Symphonic Social Night

Following the masterclass, Symphonic Asia Pacific hosted Symphonic Social Night, a special gathering dedicated to creative professionals, artists, and partners in a creative space centered on connection, collaboration, and celebration.

Created as an extension of the day’s conversations, the event provided a place for networking and relationship-building while spotlighting some of the most exciting artists from Symphonic Distribution’s growing roster through a curated live showcase.

Fresh off their acclaimed debut album release, P-Pop group VVINK graced the stage with their infectious anthems, polished choreography, and commanding presence. Chezka and Novocrane also captivated the crowd with performances characterized by melodic grit and creative boldness, while Indonesian artist Jordan Susanto brought the house down with his soul-stirring numbers. Other notable performances include Symphonic’s very own Fiona, who performed some of her original songs; P4blo, whose hard-hitting verses resonated strongly with the audience; and pop-punk veterans Letter Day Story who took attendees on a nostalgic journey through fan-favorite hits, alongside new material. Capping off the celebration, Symphonic’s very own Guji took the decks for a special DJ set that brought the night to a fitting close.

Guji explains that events like these reflect the music industry’s core values: community, creativity, and connection. “We wanted to create a space where conversations continue, collaborations can begin, and everyone can come together to celebrate the vibrant and diverse music culture emerging from the region.”

He adds, “As Symphonic continues to expand across APAC, our goal is to empower the independent music community by creating more opportunities for artists and industry professionals to connect, learn, and grow together. Many of us at Symphonic are artists ourselves, so we understand firsthand how important community, education, and access to meaningful industry relationships can be in building a sustainable career. The stronger our community becomes, the stronger the future of independent music in the region will be.”

Coca-Cola Philippines Highlights EPR Implementation at ASEAN-EU Summit in Cebu

[L-R] Rob Kaplan, Founder and CEO of Circulate Capital; Hon. Jonas Leones, Undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR); Antonio “Tony” Del Rosario, President of Coca-Cola Philippines; Dr. René van Berkel, Co-Convenor of the ASEAN Circular Economy Business Alliance; and Chris Humphrey, Executive Director of the EU-ASEAN Business Council, during the panel discussion at the summit.

Government officials, business executives, and development partners recently gathered in Cebu for the ASEAN-EU Sustainability Summit 2026, a regional forum dedicated to exploring practical solutions to Southeast Asia’s environmental and economic challenges.

Organized by the EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) and the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP) in support of the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairmanship, the summit brought together representatives from the public and private sectors to exchange insights on policy coordination, implementation strategies, and creating an enabling environment for sustainable investments.

Throughout the summit, speakers stressed that the success of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) initiatives relies on consistent implementation, supportive investment policies, political stability, cross-border collaboration, and knowledge exchange—particularly as ASEAN countries vary in the maturity of their waste management and recycling infrastructure.

As a total beverage company, Coca-Cola shared several considerations for effective EPR systems and to maximize compliance models, including: clear and enforceable regulatory EPR system design; alignment with local collection and recycling infrastructure;  inclusion of informal waste workers within recycling value chain and recovery systems; and stronger incentives that support recycled material use and infrastructure investment across the region.

Antonio “Tony” Del Rosario, president of Coca-Cola Philippines, joined fellow panelists from government, ASEAN institutions, and civil society to discuss implementation challenges and lessons from early-stage EPR markets.

Antonio “Tony” Del Rosario, President of Coca-Cola Philippines, shares Coca-Cola’s perspectives on effective EPR implementation.

“EPR systems work best when design, enforcement, and on-the-ground realities are aligned,” Del Rosario said. “That requires coordination across government, industry, and waste management stakeholders.”

Discussions throughout the summit similarly underscored that successful EPR systems require coordinated action across governments, businesses, financial institutions, waste management stakeholders, and communities. Speakers also highlighted the importance of ensuring that frameworks remain practical and locally relevant, recognizing the differing levels of infrastructure and market maturity across ASEAN economies.

Coca-Cola Philippines referenced examples from its local experience supporting collection and recycling efforts locally. These include Tapon to Ipon, a collection initiative now operating through more than 6,000 community drop-off points nationwide, and partnerships focused on waste recovery and recycling infrastructure. The company also noted the role of its philanthropic arm, the Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines, in supporting programs that engage informal waste workers in the recycling value chain.

The company also cited PETValue Philippines, the country’s first bottle-to-bottle PET recycling facility established through a joint venture between Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines and Indorama Ventures, as an example of private sector investment contributing to domestic recycling capacity.

Speakers across the summit emphasized that EPR outcomes depend on consistent implementation, investment-enabling policies, political stability, knowledge-sharing and collaboration across markets, particularly given differences in infrastructure maturity across ASEAN economies.

Coca-Cola Philippines reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with government agencies, industry stakeholders, and community partners as EPR policies continue to develop across the region.

Barbie’s Cradle transforms an existential crisis into an indie pop masterpiece with their new single, “Emergency.”

Penned by Kakoy Legaspi and produced by the pop-rock quartet, the new single marks a confident return to form

More than two decades after stepping away from the music scene, Barbie’s Cradle makes a long-awaited return with “Emergency,” their first release since 2003, signaling a fresh chapter for the band.

Released through Sony Music Entertainment, the indie pop single showcases the band’s signature vocal harmonies. Written by guitarist Kakoy Legaspi and co-produced by Barbie Almalbis alongside the rest of the group, the track explores existential anxiety with a refreshing sense of humor. Instead of attempting to resolve life’s biggest uncertainties, “Emergency” embraces the idea that accepting life’s unpredictability—and even finding amusement in it—can be the most meaningful way to cope.

“It’s a sarcastic take on existential crisis,” Legaspi explains. “It’s about trying to make sense of life’s absurdity by simply becoming more ‘zen’ about it—and about ourselves.”

“Emergency” mirrors the adventurous spirit that has long defined the band’s late ‘90s to early 2000s work, while also presenting the band at their most collaborative yet. The song begins with an unconventional verse riff written in 7/8 time, a rhythmic idea that became the foundation of the composition.

Legaspi recalls, “I came up with the idea of the lyrics when I found myself staring at a piece of paper on the wall that had ‘emergency numbers’ written on it. At first, it was very hard for me to sing and present the song to the band, but Barbie came up with the ingenious idea of cutting up the verses in a very fast, jarring way, like a duet but with no spaces in between. It made the song flow way better and gave it a unique twist.”

Although the track was originally written during the mid-2000s, it remained shelved for decades before being rediscovered during the pandemic. Working remotely through email between 2021 and 2022, the band revisited and refined the arrangement before finally recording the song live in Almalbis’ home studio after restrictions eased. The sessions captured the chemistry of the band performing together, with vocals and additional overdubs completed in subsequent recordings before acclaimed engineer Angee Rozul delivered the final mix.

“Emergency” also serves as the first glimpse into the musical comeback of Barbir’s Cradle. The band, composed of Barbie Almalbis (vocals and guitar), Kakoy Legaspi (guitar), Rommel dela Cruz (bass), and Wendell Garcia (drums), will release a few more songs throughout the following weeks, leading to an EP release.

As Barbie Almalbis mentioned in the previous press release, “We’re excited to revisit the greatest hits and misses while also sharing new songs that reflect where we are now in our lives, both as musicians and human beings. This new body of work is more collaborative and intentional than ever. We’ve poured months of hard work into these songs, and we can’t wait for everyone to hear what we’ve created.”

Recognized as one of the defining acts in the Filipino alternative music scene, Barbie’s Cradle has cemented its legacy with celebrated albums including Barbie’s Cradle, Music from the Buffet Table, and Playing in the Fields.

The band’s highly anticipated comeback will be capped by a one-night-only concert on August 1, 2026, at the Music Museum. With balcony and orchestra sections nearly sold out, fewer than 100 tickets remain available for fans hoping to catch the reunion live.

Bounty marks 40 years of growth, reaffirms commitment to food security

In the photo from left: Atty. Kenneth G. Cheng, CEO of Bounty Fresh Group Holdings, Inc. & President of Fresh Group; Mr. Rodolfo Abelardo Ablazo, General Manager of Commercial Feeds Agribusiness Group, Architect Edwin Chen, Presient of Branded and Value-Added Group, and Mr. James Benedict Carreon, President of Restaurant Group.

As Bounty marks its 40th year of operations, the agribusiness company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s food security and self-sufficiency efforts.

The message was highlighted by Atty. Kenneth Cheng, CEO of Bounty Fresh Group Holdings, Inc. and President of Fresh Group, during the company’s anniversary celebration held on June 25 at Marquis Events Place in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.

Seeing Bounty reach this remarkable 40-year milestone is truly inspiring. I’m happy to witness the company’s continued success and its commitment to making a meaningful impact on food security and the lives of Filipino communities.

It was attended by key executives from Bounty, media partners, and industry experts. The event also served as a platform for company officials to share insights on the agricultural sector and food security in the country, reflect on Bounty’s journey, and discuss what’s next.

Atty. Kenneth G. Cheng

“For four decades, Filipinos have given Bounty a place on their tables, and the biggest way we can pay back their trust is by strengthening the country’s food security. We’re committed to safeguarding food security for all Filipinos through agricultural production and leadership,” Cheng said.

In 2022, the Philippines ranked 67th out of 113 countries in the Global Food Security Index report. Four years later, the country faces the same challenge, with the Department of Social Welfare and Development now pushing to promote food security through regional cooperation.

To address this, Bounty aims to further strengthen local agricultural production to help the country become self-sufficient in food. The company works hand-in-hand with Filipino farmers, equipping them with tools, technological backing and training, as well as providing market access necessary to thrive in a competitive landscape.

These efforts help guarantee fresh, safe food for the country while actively building a stronger, more sustainable Philippine poultry industry.

Mr. Rodolfo Abelardo Ablazo

“We want the whole agricultural sector to thrive together, so we empower thousands of entrepreneurs across the country and help farmers and livestock raisers succeed by providing advanced nutrition, technology, and technical support that improve animal health, productivity, and profitability,” said Mr. Rodolfo Abelardo “Polo” Ablazo, general manager of the Commercial Feeds – Agribusiness Group. “When our partners succeed, they help strengthen food security, create jobs in their communities, and ensure Filipino families continue to have access to safe, high-quality, and affordable food.”

Food made better

Bounty traces its humble beginnings back to Santa Maria, Bulacan as a single-layer farm with 5,000 chickens. Over the years, it invested in grandparent farms, parent stock farms, hatcheries, dressing plants, feed mills, and cool-cell broiler complexes to ensure all its products are safe and of the highest quality.

By 2023, the company transitioned from multiple companies under Bounty into One Bounty with four main groups: Bounty Fresh Group, Agribusiness Group, Branded & Value-Added Group, and Restaurant Group, each with a different focus of operations in Bounty. This shift aimed to centralize strategic vision, allowing seamless collaboration and maximizing the collective value delivered to partners and customers. Ultimately, this integration strengthened the overall ecosystem of the company.

Today, the company continues to grow with more than 2,200 takeout stores nationwide under the country’s leading takeaway brands, Chooks-to-Go and Uling Roasters.

Mr. James Benedict Carreon

“For 40 years, Filipinos have trusted and allowed us to be part of their meals, so we share our success with everyone who welcomed us to their tables. We will continue to provide comfort food that makes every moment better,” said James Benedict Carreon, president of Restaurant Group.

Architect Edwin Go Chen

“Our diverse portfolio of convenient, high-quality, and nutritious products is what makes Bounty a household fixture daily. We will continue to push the boundaries of food innovation, staying true to our commitment to ‘food made better,’” added Arch. Edwin Chen, president of Branded & Value-Added Group.

Through its integrated efforts across the agricultural value chain, from livestock production to food distribution, Bounty continues to strengthen its position as a key contributor to the Philippine agriculture industry. As it marks four decades of growth, the company remains committed to driving innovation and fostering partnerships that will help build a more food-secure future for the nation.

Gab Cabangon revisits his band roots in angst-fueled track “Ikot Ulit”

The “paasa anthem” explores the frustration and exhaustion that come from life’s repeated curveballs

Filipino singer-songwriter Gab Cabangon channels frustration and unresolved anger in “Ikot Ulit,” the third official single off his highly anticipated debut EP to be released this year. Described as his ‘paasa’ anthem and ‘galitcore’ track, the pop-rock tune comes from a place of personal uncertainty and professional setbacks, confronting the experience of repeatedly facing broken promises with both grit and emotional exhaustion.

“I think the emotion that really drove the song was mainly frustration,” Gab admits. “I was getting sudden postponements for work-related projects and pitches, and it was a period wherein I had bar gigs that were cancelling at the last minute. I also felt like I couldn’t trust anybody outside of my family and circle of close friends because I felt like people were going to throw me under the bus at any moment.”

Gab reveals that he had always intended to release “Ikot Ulit” a couple of months after “Kama” but later realized how the timing made so much sense in today’s socio-political landscape. “There are so many broken promises happening right now, and the consequences are very real and very frustrating. While I did not write Ikot Ulit with the initial intention of relating it to the political climate right now, I do realize that it’s important to express that frustration through this song.”

While based on Cabangon’s real-life experience, the song intentionally leaves room for listeners to project their stories onto its themes. Its lyrics avoid specificity, allowing the frustrations explored in the track to appeal across different circumstances and walks of life.

“I kept the lyrics quite general so that people can associate the song with their own respective experiences,” he adds. “Just like most of my songwriting, I often start with my experience, then I incorporate the stories of other people to try and make the song more relatable to my listeners. By the time I finished Ikot Ulit, I wanted to make sure that the feelings of ‘frustration’ and ‘anger’ were felt throughout the whole song.”

Sonically speaking, “Ikot Ulit” revisits elements of the artist’s earlier band-driven roots while integrating the singer-songwriter sensibilities he has long established with his solo material. Produced and arranged in collaboration with David Lina, the track embraces a grittier indie pop-rock aesthetic, brimming with dirtier guitar tones, a less strained arrangement, and a heightened sense of urgency that mirrors its thematic vibe.

A notable addition to the final recording is an instrumental bridge that was absent from the original demo, which somehow elevates the level of intensity to the overall sound. The track was mixed and mastered by Shadiel Chan and Jan Fuertez with vocal engineering by John Crupero, further refining the song’s raw yet deliberable sonic identity with just a subtle amount of grace.

Beyond its cathartic energy, “Ikot Ulit” occupies an important place within the broader narrative of Cabangon’s upcoming debut EP. Following “Pieces,” which explored the acceptance of vulnerability, and “Kama,” which finds beauty in peace amidst the cosmopolitan noise, “Ikot Ulit” serves as the next vital phase in a larger road toward healing.

Gab summarizes it all by saying, “I think it’s really about going through the process of healing and learning to love again. That in order to be whole and be passionate about the things we love, we have to allow ourselves to feel, to rest, and, in some cases, to express our frustrations and our anger. I’d like to think of Ikot Ulit as the third chapter that kind of opens a space for everyone to just let it all out.”

Gab Cabangon’s “Ikot Ulit” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide.

Filipino Acts ALYSON, PLAYERTWO, and Novocrane Earn Spots at AXEAN Festival 2026

The Bali-based music conference and showcase also introduces an expanded songwriting camp and a Southeast Asian hawker-inspired food experience

Fast-emerging Filipino acts ALYSON, PLAYERTWO, and Novocrane are gearing up to represent the Philippines at AXEAN Festival 2026, Southeast Asia’s leading music showcase and conference, set to take place on August 29–30, 2026 at Jimbaran Hub in Bali, Indonesia.

Selected by AXEAN Festival in partnership with its co-founder and official Philippine collaborator, The Rest Is Noise PH, the three artists have secured spots in the festival’s first-wave lineup. They will perform alongside acts from across Asia and other regions, showcasing their music before an audience of international industry professionals, festival organizers, and music enthusiasts from around the globe.

AXEAN Festival and The Rest Is Noise PH co-founder MC Galang emphasizes that beyond the roster’s individual achievements, their inclusion reflects the depth, diversity, and global potential of the Filipino music community today. “As co-founders of both AXEAN Festival and The Rest Is Noise PH, it’s especially meaningful for us to continue creating opportunities that connect Filipino artists with international audiences, industry professionals, and new markets. Over the years, our work has been centered on building bridges between Southeast Asia and the rest of the world, and seeing more Filipino artists take their place on global stages is a reminder of why that work matters.”

Galang explains that the global push for homegrown artists builds upon The Rest Is Noise PH’s longstanding commitment to music export and international development. “Earlier this year, The Rest Is Noise PH expanded this mission through the launch of our music consultancy and management arm, beginning with AXEAN Festival 2025 alumni ONE CLICK STRAIGHT for global management representation and bookings. For us, these efforts all stem from the same belief: that Filipino artists deserve sustained support, meaningful opportunities, and a place in conversations happening far beyond our borders. We’re excited for what lies ahead—not just for these artists, but also for the next generation of Filipino musicians ready to connect with the world.”

Regional and international artists join the celebration

Also leading the first wave announcement is an esteemed pool of Indonesian artists that reflects the country’s vibrant and eclectic music scene. Among the names confirmed for the maiden batch are top-streamed singer-songwriter Ndarboy Genk, experimental music quartet Basajan, Yogyakarta-based band LOR, Tropical Dessert trio Babon, Jakarta alt-rock band Satu Per Empat, rising singer-songwriter Jo Soegono, jazz rock trio Emptyyy, and R&B/soul star Noni.

This year’s lineup also gets an extra boost from emerging and seasoned acts in Southeast Asia, including Malaysia’s very own indie pop outfit Masdo, alt-rock veterans Pitahati, and genre-defying artists Lil Asian Thiccie x dj magn3sium. Singapore contributes a strong contingent with acclaimed indie rock band Subsonic Eye and experimental collective sub:shaman. Thailand’s thriving independent scene arrives in force through Yellow Fang, INSPIRATIVE, SLOWWVES, and Cupnoodle, while Macau’s Scamper and France’s Treaks heighten the festival’s increasingly global outlook.

Explaining the festival’s curation philosophy, AXEAN Festival co-founder Piyapong Muenprasertdee shares, “Professionalism, live performance excellence, and a clear artistic vision genuinely drive most of our selections—those are the qualities we’re looking for first. However, not every artist meets all the criteria, and this approach is intentional: we also prioritize representing less-heard music scenes. Alongside the most polished, export-ready acts, we make room for artists from locales the wider industry rarely hears from. And the value there is long-term—when those artists showcase at AXEAN, they take the experience and the learnings home, where they help nurture the next generation from their scene, who may go on to reach the global stage further than the artists who came before them.”

AXEAN Festival co-founder David Siow echoes Py’s statements but emphasizes that this year’s edition promises a stronger lineup with global potential. “For audiences, our curation of artists has been geared towards artists with great live sets and who are ripe for export. You can see artists who are about to blow up, artists who will blow your minds, and artists whose future moves will blow you away.”

New program elements

Standing up for its commitment to community-building and innovation, AXEAN Festival 2026 will introduce several new elements in the program designed to strengthen its engagement among artists, delegates, partners, and audiences.

The conference and festival platform will also continue its highly regarded Songwriting Camp, which has become a cornerstone of AXEAN’s artist development initiative since its introduction in 2024.

Siow explains, “The songwriting camp introduced in 2024 (and optimized in 2025) was also born out of our drive to do things right for artists; hence, when we designed the camp, it was something that was only meant for collaborations. We take pride in creating a relaxed and casual environment that fosters creativity and friendships, as we believe the atmosphere contributes to the high quality of the final song outputs. Of course, being in Bali helps, because we can conduct the camp in villas with pools and great vibes.”

Further improving the festival experience is a brand-new food and beverage concept inspired by Southeast Asia’s iconic hawker centers and food courts. The initiative will bring together dishes and culinary traditions from across Southeast Asia, giving attendees the opportunity to explore the region’s rich cultural diversity through food.

Py adds, “Few things represent Southeast Asian culture better than its food, so we’re curating regional vendors into the festival canteen. There’s a saying that the way to someone’s heart is through their stomach. Also, I personally think, and have seen, that people connect more genuinely over food and drinks, so we’d rather create the conditions for that than over-program things.”

Apart from the carefully curated lineup of performances and new offerings, this year’s AXEAN Festival will continue its focus on industry development programming through panel discussions, business matchmaking, and structured networking sessions.
