Among them are, Philippine Army Wellness Center, Gate 5 Barracks, SOQ TRADOC Building, and Libingan ng mga Bayani. The fiber-grade connectivity will allow the army personnel to remain informed of the latest news about the coronavirus, and likewise will enable COVID-19 patients in the quarantine areas to keep in touch with their loved ones.

All quarantine areas manned by uniformed personnel in Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila for COVID-19 patients now have business-grade fiber internet which leverages on PLDT Group’s most expansive fiber optic network in the country.

Rico Blanco four years after with inspiring new anthem “This Too Shall Pass”

Rico Blanco

This Too Shall Pass is Rico Blanco’s first solo single in four years hiatus in making songs of his own, as well as his first under Sony Music Philippines. The song was written from a place of discomfort and fear, witnessing how the much louder tremor of pandemic anxiety instantly changed our lives and left us with little time to mourn and move forward. This Too Shall Pass succeeds in repurposing music’s mission: Outside of its function as an entertainment fodder and a way to escape, it carries the resilience of the human spirit. In darkness, it shines brighter.

With frontliners risking their lives with little protection, people going hungry, and the social order crumbling to pieces, Rico felt powerless by the situation. Hence, he had to forego his difficulties of living alone and coping with his own emotional troubles, as there was work to be done. He shares, “My efforts are little in light of a pandemic like this. As big as my imagination is for this song, I also feel that it’s not enough. But it’s what I can do and contribute as a musician. Some songs are anchored on truth, but they are wrapped and adorned in a lot of romanticized thoughts. This song is real, inwards and also outwards; it’s something that I really want to tell every single person. I wasn’t able to give a message to the frontliners, and I feel very guilty about this. I needed to finish this, and I want them to hear this. I know each one of us is going through something. I wrote this song as my way to reach out.”

THIS TOO SHALL PASS [COVER ARTWORK]

With sonic elements that span continents and a carefully honed production which he supervised himself, Rico’s latest single defies convention with a global sounding opus that incorporates musical dispatches and personal anecdotes. From samples of his nieces laughing culled from a family chat group to his attempt to blur the cultural lines by incorporating European techno, hip-hop beats, Asian riffs, Afro chanting, and Pinoy fiesta in a seamless, genre-bending extravaganza, This Too Shall Pass is ambitious in scope and sound design, but its heart is for the people who need light and love.

As Sony Music’s GM Philippines and VP Business Development Asia, Ms. Roslyn Pineda sums it up: “Music is important – we all know this.  But never more so than when we are faced with uncertainty, because it is then that the power of music becomes unquantifiable, almost limitless.  Music can make you feel you’re not alone. Music can save you from despair.  And so it is with a song like This Too Shall Pass.  It is so relevant to the times that it becomes a declaration, a prayer, a mantra — all rolled into one.”

Rico Blanco’s “This Too Shall Pass” is now available on all digital platforms worldwide. Watch out for the music video to be released soon.

Honda Motorcycle Service Heroes Amid The Pandemic

With the entire country on quarantine because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, mobility in the country is practically at a standstill. According to a report titled “Consumer Behavior During The Pandemic,” lockdowns and quarantines have reduced mobility by 80 percent in the Philippines and Malaysia, and 60 percent in Singapore and Vietnam. Traffic was reduced due to social distancing between people and encourage them to stay at home.

Other than some essential services remaining open such as food delivery and medical needs, the e-Commerce industry is booming since its services help people buy what they need online and have it delivered right to their homes, thereby making delivery couriers important frontliners as well.

Of course, couriers are allowed to operate and continue doing their jobs as long as they maintain safety precautions imposed by quarantine guidelines, like wearing facemasks and gloves, and being equipped with alcohol and other hygiene essentials, which were also a requirement by their own courier companies.

In the Philippines, riders from motorcycle taxi-hailing apps have shifted their services from providing transportation for people to delivering food and other essential goods allowing riders to continue making a living even in the face of the pandemic. But more than just providing a means of livelihood, these riders are providing an important lifeline to many people forced to stay home through the delivery of food and medicines, not to mention aiding in the government’s efforts in keeping human interaction as minimal as possible.

Honda Philippines, Inc. the No. 1 motorcycle manufacturer in the Philippines joins the country as it works to meet the challenges posed by the global health crisis through the work of delivery riders in ensuring the transportation of essential goods and services.

“I am proud to see that our motorcycles have become indispensable and are being used with a great purpose. A purpose of keeping people safe at home and encouraging social distancing, during this crisis.  We also commend the effort of our Hero Riders as they offer courage and aid during this crisis.” said Susumu Mitsuishi, President of Honda Philippines Inc. (HPI).

The array of cutting-edge motorcycles busy on the streets, such as the Honda BeAT and Honda CLICK, signifies that Honda’s AT bikes are becoming predominant.  This shows that the company has been true to its “ONE DREAM” campaign, which is helping fulfill people’s dream while experiencing the joy of mobility and in today’s reality, provide a safer way for people staying home to still access badly needed necessities.

BPI warns public about increasing COVID-19 scams

The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is warning the public about the rising number of cybercrime cases amid the COVID-19 global outbreak.

BPI noted a 50 percent increase worldwide in online scams, as cybercriminals tap into various digital platforms to capitalize on coronavirus fears by way of phishing scams and impersonating legitimate organizations, including banks.

“We see phishing emails that feature COVID-19 themes that have links to phishing sites. These scammers do take advantage of our dire situation and the emotions of people,” said BPI’s Enterprise Information Security Officer and Data Protection Officer, Jonathan John B. Paz.

In a span of 10 days—from March 17 to 26—BPI already detected 24 COVID-themed phishing emails. “We have also seen 212 phishing websites in the same period and all these were taken down,” Paz added.

BPI is therefore warning its clients to take the necessary precautions to protect them from becoming the latest victims of coronavirus-related cybercrimes.

“As you enjoy the convenience of banking through our online channels, make sure that your every log-in is safe and secure,” explained Paz adding that cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, especially during these critical times.

To protect one’s bank account in the time of COVID-19, BPI encourages its customers to use the Bank’s mobile and online security features to help keep their accounts safe. These include activation of one’s Mobile Key, enabling biometric login, linking a device to one’s account, using One-Time PIN (OTP), and setting up login notifications and email alerts, among others.

For its part, BPI said that they have taken both technical and non-technical measures to combat COVID-themed social engineering attacks.

“We ramped up collaboration with threat intelligence services to gather information on the emerging modus operandi, indicators of compromise, phishing websites and attacks, particularly COVID-19-themed cyberattacks, to improve the Bank’s defenses and help us better secure our clients personal data and financial assets” Paz said.

All these – the Bank’s sustained awareness campaigns and continued deployment of security features – form part of BPI’s wholistic approach towards cybersecurity and its fight against the various scams that are perpetrated by fraudsters, especially during this time of a global pandemic.

SM Cares celebrates Earth Day 2020

In line with the 50th celebration of Earth Day on April 22, SM Cares has partnered with Earth Day Network Philippines for a social media campaign that aims to promote eco-friendly and sustainable practices among Filipinos.

SM Cares’ #LoveEarth campaign is a social media initiative centered around the message of “Healing the Earth” that calls for positive change in behavior and mindset in caring for the environment. The campaign encourages individuals to be more appreciative, mindful, and moderate in their consumption of Earth’s resources such as food, water, and energy, even while staying at home for the period of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Through this campaign, we want to encourage everyone to adopt a more sustainable lifestyle and work together toward caring for the only planet that we all call home, even in our own little way,” said Liza B. Silerio, VP of Corporate Compliance of SM Supermalls.

#LoveEarth campaign supports Earth Day Network’s recently launched digital campaign Earthrise, a youth-led digital movement whose goal is to mobilize organizations, communities, and individuals all over the world on Earth Day to demand immediate action on climate change from the world’s leaders and policy makers.

Earth Day is an annual celebration led by the Earth Day Network that puts the spotlight on issues that are affecting the environment. First held in 1970, Earth Day was the result of a need for a unified response against various environmental problems like pollution and resource depletion. Today, the event is considered the biggest environmental movement in the world, with millions joining celebrations every year.

For this year’s celebration, Earth Day’s theme centers on climate action. “The enormous challenge – but also the vast opportunities – of action on climate change have distinguished the issue as the most pressing topic of the 50th anniversary,” Earth Day Network says in its website. “Climate change represents the biggest challenge to the future of humanity and the life-support systems that make our world habitable.”

The #LoveEarth campaign is just one of the numerous ways that SM is promoting sustainable living among Filipinos, and the company has other programs aimed at helping care for the environment. These are the Regular Trash to Cash Recycling Market that is held every first Friday and Saturday of the month; daily water recycling systems, and environmental campaigns such as the Green Film Festival and Green Retail Agenda, just to name a few.
