Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) has forged new alliances with four leading Filipino waste management companies as part of its most recent effort to comply with the Extended Producer Responsibility Act of 2022 (EPR Law). At a Memorandum of Agreement signing ceremony with Basic Environmental Systems and Technologies (BEST), Envirotech, Plastic Credit Exchange (PCX), and Republic Cement last September 1, 2023, at APC Makati headquarters, the food industry giant formally reaffirmed its dedication to a more sustainable future.
The EPR Law requires businesses to assume greater responsibility for the post-consumer waste management component of product disposal and recycling throughout their life cycle. Obligated businesses like APC are required to make sure they contribute to the recovery, diversion, and recycling of plastic waste produced by the usage of their products. These regulations seek to reduce and control the overall consequences and environmental impact of post-consumer plastic trash.
APC saw the enactment of the EPR Law as an opportunity to supplement their current environmental stewardship projects. The company immediately sought partnerships with organizations that would not only help make their sustainability efforts more feasible, but also inspire new initiatives for a more environmentally sound future for the Philippines.
To aid with the collection of post-consumer packaging, APC tapped BEST, a waste management consulting company established in 1999. BEST founded the Trash-to-Cashback program operating in different parts of the Philippines and the MyBasurero App that encourages waste collection through an incentivized system.
Since 2010, Envirotech has built multiple materials recovery and processing facilities nationwide, with facilities that turn low-quality soft/flexible plastic waste into construction and furniture grade materials.
PCX is widely known for pioneering the Plastic Pollution Reduction Standard, which allows for the management of pledges from companies and institutions to clean up their plastic footprints and be awarded Plastic Neutrality Certifications for their efforts. Their aim is to protect the ocean by collecting and processing solid waste found in our waters, while providing livelihood opportunities to women in vulnerable communities through their Aling Tindera Program.
Completing APC’s new set of collaborations is Republic Cement, who launched the Ecoloop program that encourages waste recovery and processing from collecting, segregating, and shredding of viable solid waste to be used as Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF).

During the ceremony, Mr. Ernesto Carlos, APC’s Chief Sustainability Officer further assured that APC, alongside its partners who signed the Memorandum of Agreement, will put up unwavering efforts for future generations of Filipinos.

This discourse also proposes the unification of production teams from diverse regions, forming the foundation for September Fever’s 2024 Regional Caravan. Esteemed music producers, production leaders, and industry experts gather to chart a path that transports VisMin’s artists nationwide while championing the indie music movement—a convergence of creative energies where innovation meets collaboration, shaping the future of VisMin’s indie music scene. The Roundtable Discussion will be attended by various professionals in the Philippine music scene: KC Salazar of Indie CDO (Cagayan de Oro); J Martino “Bobbi” Olvido of John Bottles (Cebu); Sandy Kiamko of Holodeck (Davao); Philip Biboso of Southlab (Koronadal); and Josh Alipe of Sapphire (Cebu).

Vios Cup Leg 1 Highlights
The TGR Vios Cup’s first leg recently concluded with a tire trail of exhilarating moments with Jarond Mesina and Ian Rosales of Team Toyota Cebu headlining the Circuit Championship races in the Promotional and Super Sporting classes, respectively.
Bern Corpino of Toyota Balintawak Inc. – Obengers Racing Team claimed the first spot on the podium for Sporting Class. Pattice Tenorio of Zigwheels, a Vios Cup rookie, won the Media Promotional Class, and Siegwald Go took first place in the Media Sporting Class. The Promotional Influencer Class delivered an amazing all-femal podium finish with Bianca Yao leading in the number one spot; followed by Arriane Bautista and Apple David in second and third spots, respectively. Lastly, Miguel Romulo clinched the Sporting Influencer Class championship.

The 2023 World Music Festival @ Taiwan will broaden its scope with more extensive programming and a more interesting line-up of local and foreign musical talents.
The multi-format, music-focused festival will be held this year at the Taipei Music Center from October 12–15, 2023. There are two main sections to the festival: Going The Global Trade Fair will be held on October 12–13, while the Our World Music Festival will be held on October 14–15.
The headliners on the bill include Taiwan’s own Outlet Drift and Joanna Wang, together with international icons ADG7 from South Korea, Hitoto Yo from Japan, and Balaklava Blues from Ukraine and Canada.
There will be four immersive parties with music and fragrances and a total of 24 Taiwanese and foreign groups performing in various music forms. Two co-productions that highlight international partnerships and cross-cultural exchanges will also be featured at the renowned world music festival: Ohelen (SK) and Leaf Yeh (TW) will perform live together, and Hitoto Yo (JP) will step up their game with a special performance that includes Taiwan’s Sangpuy and Tzu-lung Hung.
For the first time ever, the multicultural festival held an open call for international musicians to participate in its global showcase. The result yielded submissions from more than a hundred artists from 31 different countries expressing interest in participating in the festival, including six from America, fourteen from Asia, seven from Europe, three from Africa, and one from Oceania.
From the entries collated, the largest global music festival in Taiwan is set to announce the 13 finalists who will be performing live on October 11-12 and will be watched by 11 international delegates.
