Toyota PH provides mobility and equipment assistance to Tamaraw protectors

In photo (from left) are TMP President Masando Hashimoto and DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga during the turnover of Toyota Tamaraw UV and Bantay Tamaraw Kits

A brand-new locally made Tamaraw car and “Bantay Tamaraw Kits” are donated to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) Tamaraw Conservation Program (TCP) by the Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation (TMPF), the social and humanitarian arm of the nation’s top automaker.

DENR Secretary Maria Antonia Yulo Loyzaga, Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMP) President Masando Hashimoto, and TMPF President Jose Maria Aligada led the ceremonial transition, which took place at the DENR Central Office in Diliman, Quezon City.

In conjunction with the Next Generation Toyota Tamaraw’s December 2024 launch, the DENR and TMPF signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), which includes the donations.

As the first tranche of support, TMPF handed over a Tamaraw Utility Van (UV) long wheelbase variant to aid in the patrolling and monitoring by “Bantay Tamaraw Rangers” as well as in the mobility operations of the TCP Office on the island of Mindoro. In addition, DENR-MIMAROPA regional officials and TCP Office representatives received Php500,000-worth of Bantay Tamaraw Kits, consisting of mountaineering gears, equipment, and tools on behalf of the Bantay Tamaraw Rangers.

The Bantay Tamaraw Rangers are volunteer Indigenous People (IP) and barangay residents dedicated in protecting the critically endangered Tamaraw (Bubalus mindorensis) and their known habitats in Mounts Iglit-Baco Natural Park, which spans across Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro. To date, the TCP Office has eighteen (18) registered rangers who will soon receive a complete set of equipment each.

In his message, TMP president Masando Hashimoto paid tribute to Tamaraw protectors, saying “we salute you for risking yourself on the ground to protect our Tamaraws.”

“Now, it is your turn to be protected too – from the harsh mountain conditions and various dangers of trekking and camping for weeks in the wilds.”

Hashimoto also mentioned that the initiative is part of the global Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050, particularly in “Establishing a Society in Harmony with Nature.” Under this challenge, TMP collaborates with the DENR on various environmental initiatives, including reforestation, afforestation, marine life conservation, and recently, biodiversity conservation.

To support important program initiatives, such as Tamaraw habitat monitoring and research, support programs for Barangay and Indigenous People (IP) volunteers, equipping the Tamaraw Research and Conservation Center, and various Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) activities, TMPF is also committed to providing a Php3-million conservation fund in addition to in-kind donations.

Laririt, DENR MIMAROPA Regional Executive Director Felix S. Mirasol Jr., and San Jose, Occidental Mindoro City Environment and Natural Resources Office and Concurrent TCP Coordinator Efren L. Delos Reyes.

TMP’s business foundation, TMPF, was established 35 years ago with an emphasis on the four (4) main pillars of community service, education, health, and the environment.

The first race weekend of the 2025 season is dedicated to celebrating cars and motorsports with the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup

New GR Yaris makes public debut, GR performances cars push their limits in the Club Race

2025 TGR Philippine Cup Race Weekend 1 racers

With the first racing weekend of the year, Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is off to an exciting 2025 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup season. Jesse Garcia is now leading the Sporting Class, and Maila Alivia, a seasoned racer, is leading the Super Sporting Class. Luis Moreno, a Sim racer and Vios Cup Autocross Challenge alumnus, is at the top of the Novice Class standings.

Legacy Class Sprint Race

The Legacy Class sprint events also featured competition from former Vios Cup racers. Paolo Ang, the 2021 and 2023 Sporting Class runner-up, and Senator JV Ejercito, who won his maiden Vios Cup race in 2017, are notable competitors in this race category.

GR 86 drifting exhibition

The weekend also saw GR car club members competing in sprint races for the first time in the racing series’ history. Dubbed the Club Race, the event highlighted Toyota’s philosophy of bringing thrill and joy to customers through one-of-a-kind fan experiences.

GR performance and Lexus car owners also took to the track their vehicles for the Track Day. Fans of Toyota’s GR lineup and Lexus’ F SPORT series also got to see the vehicles up close at the display area.

In the activity area, event goers enjoyed freebies and prizes from the sponsors’ booths and got to try their hand at remote control and sim racing. There were also diecast collectibles for sale.

The highlight of the race weekend remained the circuit races, with Sprint Race 2 applying a reverse grid rule for added excitement. The starting grid was based on the results of Sprint Race 1. For the Novice Class, only P1 to P4 were reversed, putting John Rey San Diego in pole position for Sprint Race 2.

The Legacy, Sporting and Super Sporting classes reversed the full grid, putting Oliver Estrella in pole position for the Legacy Class, Mike Santos for the Sporting Class, and Iñigo Anton for the Super Sporting Class.

Car damage relegated Oliver Estrella to the back of the grid, allowing Paolo Ang to take the lead in the Legacy Class. In the Sporting Class, Novice Class graduate Russel Reyes made his way to the front of the pack to take his second sprint win of the season.

Maila Alivia solidified her position as a championship contender in the Super Sporting Class by winning both sprint races of the weekend, and a top five finish in the endurance race.

Meanwhile, in the Novice Class, TMP President Masando Hashimoto manage to secure third place after taking advantage of a runoff by Pablo Salapantan, earning him his second podium finish of the weekend.

Intense wheel-to-wheel action also took place in the Super Sporting Class endurance race as Mikey Jordan and Alain Gabriel Alzona faced off for third place. Jordan’s strong defense proved to be a challenge for Alzona, but Alzona would pull through after persistent overtake attempts.

Toyota Motor Philippines’ TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Academy encourages racers to push boundaries for improvement

Leading mobility company brings motorsports closer to Filipinos through racing school

Aspiring racers had the opportunity to experience the excitement of racetracks firsthand at the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Academy Philippines (TGRA), which was recently hosted at the Clark International Speedway by Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP).

Participants received instruction on the fundamentals of racing, appropriate racing etiquette, automobile handling strategies, and track braking points throughout the first half of the session.

In the second half of the program, students got to apply what they had learned during the orientation through guided track activities. The slalom activity tested the participants’ agility, while the ‘follow the leader’ activity allowed them to get a feel of the racetrack’s straights and corners by following the racing line.

The TGRA was met with enthusiasm by first timers, who composed a majority of the participants:

“I race go karts, so I wanted to try driving a car – to see kung anong pinagkaiba. It’s almost the same, but also different because the car is bigger. For me, I feel like mas masaya ito,” shared Karis Alexandra Santos.

“Since bata pa ako mahilig ako sa kotse and manood ng racing. I’m also fascinated by the mechanical aspects of cars. Kaya I took the opportunity to sign up nung nakita ko na may slot sa TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Academy,” shared Nemuel Obas.

“The TGRA makes it more accessible to get into this sport. It was beyond my expectations. Akala ko yung first few exercises lang gagawin namin – yung avoiding the cones and braking. Yun pala we also get to go around the track a few times and at a good speed,” shared Miguel Corrales.

“Pangarap ko makapag-drive sa speedway, sa track – yung ma-experience yung ganitong driving environment at ma-enhance yung skills ko, so inencourage ako ng mga anak ko mag enroll [sa TGRA]” shared Javi Rios.

“As a woman in motorsports, I’m excited to promote diversity and break down barriers in a traditionally male-dominated sport. I think the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Academy is the perfect place to bring this passion of mine to life,” shared Ella Nicole Bornilla.

“The TGRA is our way of making motorsports more accessible to racing fans,” shared TMP Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services Andy Ty. “We’ll have more batches of the TGRA this year, so we invite those who missed this first batch to join us in the next ones.”

The TGRA was launched in 2014 as a training ground for hopefuls looking to kick start their racing career. Some graduates of the program have gone on to pursue professional racing careers, with some participating in the TGR Philippine Cup, TMP’s premier racing series.

Racing fans can continue to join in the fun at Race Weekend 1 of the TGR Philippine Cup, which will be happening this Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Clark International Speedway. Admission is free.

The Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) has recognized the Toyota Gazoo Racing Academy Philippines, which is presented by Official Tire Partner GT Radial and Official Fuel & Lubricants Partner Petron. Toyota Financial Services Philippines, myTOYOTA Wallet, Denso, AVT, 3M, ROTA, Tuason Racing, OMP, and Kinto One are also supporting this event.

The 11th season of the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup has underway

Racing series to introduce new race format and race class

After introducing significant improvements for the 11th season of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippine Cup (TGR Philippine Cup), Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) is once again bringing excitement to the local motorsports scene. The TGR Philippine Cup, formerly the TGR Vios Cup, is the top racing series offered by the mobility corporation with the goal of introducing Filipinos to the excitement of motorsports.

The 2025 TGR Philippine Cup season will resume with three race weekends and an earlier race schedule:

  • Race Weekend 1– March 22, 2025
  • Race Weekend 2 – May 2025
  • Race Weekend 3– August 2025

Race Weekend 1 will be setting the pace at the Clark International Speedway in Mabalacat, Pampanga. Action-packed races await spectators as racers in the Novice Class, Sporting Class and Super Sporting Class duke it out in the Sprint and Endurance Races.

Returning to the Novice Class are TMP President Masando Hashimoto, Reph Bangsil, and media racers John Rey San Diego and Pablo Salapantan. Joining them are Vios Cup Autocross alumna Arianne Bautista, sim racer Luis Moreno, and media racer Ian Magbanua.

2025 TGR Philippine Cup Novice Class champion Russel Reyes and runner-up Jamil Lacuna have been promoted to the Sporting Class, where they will face off with some of the best racers in the country. They are joined by Kody Ng who is returning from last season to complete the Team TGR Philippines lineup.

A new race class will also be debuting on the grid—but with a familiar car! The Legacy Class, composed of former Vios Cup racers and owners of the third generation Vios, will be competing in their own race class in an exciting opportunity to see the legends and even former Vios Cup champions back on the track.

Racing teams from all over the country are revving up their engines for another thrill-filled season. With a bigger prize pool at stake, the competition is more intense than ever.

Fan-fun is back on track

In the spirit of providing fun and excitement to the fans, the TGR Philippine Cup is also introducing a new race format. Car clubs of Toyota’s performance cars – the GR Yaris, GR Supra and GR 86 – will get to push their super cars to the limits in the Club Race, a 5-lap circuit race.

Previously, car clubs were only given access to the speedway during Track Day, where they could fulfill their need for speed on the racetracks. Now with a competitive factor, the activity brings even more thrills to drivers and spectators alike.

For car club members who will not be participating in the Club Race, they will still get to enjoy driving around the track during Track Day, where fans can also enjoy seeing their favorite GR performance cars zipping through.

Fans will also get to see the New GR Yaris in action during its racetrack debut. The GR Supra, the GR 86, and various car club’s collections will also be on display at the event. Fans can also check out the official GR merchandise store for shirts, caps, umbrellas, tumblers, and other fan items.

There will be game booths, including the TGR GT Cup experience, where e-racing fans can put their skills to the test. Fans can also get their hands on freebies and prizes at the sponsors’ booths, and watch drifting and gymkhana exhibitions by professional drivers.

Filipino alternative rock band Hale will also be performing their hit songs for a night of celebration. Admission to all these activities is free!

“We talked with race fans and our customers to work out how we can make the TGR Philippine Cup even better. This led to the development of the Club Race and the Legacy Class, where fans themselves can participate in track activities,” shared TMP Assistant Vice President for Marketing Services Mr. Andy Ty. “Through events such as the TGR Philippine Cup, we hope more Filipinos can become interested in cars and motorsports, and experience for themselves the thrill of pushing the limits for better.”

The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Philippines Facebook and YouTube accounts will stream live coverage of Race Weekend 1 of the TGR Philippine Cup. At 8:30 AM, the live stream will begin.

Official Tire Partner GT Radial and Official Fuel & Lubricants Partner Petron are bringing the Toyota Gazoo Racing Philippine Cup to you. Toyota Financial Services Philippines, myTOYOTA Wallet, Denso, AVT, 3M, ROTA, Tuason Racing, OMP, and Kinto One are also supporting this event.
