The Revolution Starts at Godolkin: September 17 is the premiere date of Gen V Season 2

On September 17, 2025, Prime Video’s popular series Gen V, the explosive spin-off from The Boys, will return for its eagerly awaited second season. The first three episodes will be released weekly after that.

Season 2, which is set in the ethically complex world of Godolkin University, begins while the university is still dealing with the aftermath of the devastating conclusion of Season 1. As Homelander’s hold on America becomes stronger, the students must contend with fresh dangers, an enigmatic new Dean, and an undercover mission that has the potential to alter everything.

Returning to her role as Marie Moreau, Jaz Sinclair shares her excitement. “We left off Season 1 having discovered a whole new level of Marie’s abilities, and I was thrilled to see where the writers were going to go from there with that. Everything felt a bit foreboding and grim, which gave me a lot to play with.”

Sinclair adds, “I like that Marie is just figuring it out as she goes, I definitely can relate to the moments of hers that are awkward and fumble-y. I like that she makes mistakes. But maybe, people also relate to feeling guilty or out of place and wanting to turn that into something good?”

Also returning is Lizze Broadway as Emma Meyer, whose transformation in Season 2 is both emotional and empowering. “Emma’s deep into her post-shrink-show, post-apocalypse era and I am so here for it. She’s still got that awkward charm, but now there’s grit, bite, and a growing refusal to be the emotional dumping ground for everyone else.”

Broadway reflects on the season’s deeper themes, “Grief changes people, trust me, it changed Emma, and it changed me too. Through all of that, Emma finds this fierce, unapologetic strength. She finally starts speaking up for herself and owning her space.”

In Season 2, Hamish Linklater plays Cipher, the mysterious new Dean of Godolkin University, who arrives and sets the stage for a more dangerous, darker semester.

Gen V Season 2 is expected to be even more insane, moving, and exciting than its debut thanks to its intense action, emotional depth, and sharp satire. Beginning on September 17, 2025, Gen V Season 2 will be available on Prime Video worldwide.

Jack Daniel’s On Stage promotes cooperation and community through Road to Indiefest

The second phase of the music program celebrates the strength of Filipino indie music with 20 standout acts and the partners who keep the scene alive.

The second part of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey’s multi-year music program, Jack Daniel’s On Stage, has officially begun, with the overarching theme being Road to Indiefest. This chapter continues to highlight Filipino independent musicians, bringing together fans, producers, and musicians to celebrate the local indie music scene’s collaboration and liveliness.

Me at the event

I love how Jack Daniel’s On Stage continues to uplift the Filipino indie scene. It’s more than just music — it’s about uniting artists, producers, and fans in celebrating creativity, passion, and collaboration. Excited to see the journey towards Indiefest 2026!

Through carefully selected Jack Daniel’s On Stage experiences, fans may interact with their favorite performers as they await the third Jack Daniel’s Indiefest in 2026. Jack Daniel’s continued support of the indie spirit is highlighted, and the local indie music scene is celebrated.

As Gabriel Fajardo, Brand Marketing Manager of Jack Daniel’s, Emerging Asia, puts it, “This second chapter of Jack Daniel’s On Stage is about deepening the connection with the local indie music scene while opening its doors to the wider community of independent creatives. It celebrates collaboration between indie artists, indie production groups, and the broader indie creative community, bringing together diverse voices that embody the true spirit of independence and authenticity.”

For this chapter, the current lineup was handpicked from the 35 indie acts nominated by the program’s production group partners during last year’s Jack Daniel’s On Stage: Playlist Live. A distinguished panel of music industry experts and partners, previous “Chosen One” artists, and the Jack Daniel’s team selected 20 acts to advance. This curated pool showcases the distinct voices, creativity, and diversity of today’s Filipino indie music.

This year’s roster of 20 standout indie artists includes Alyson, Ang Bagong Luto Ni Enriquez, August Wahh, Cheeky Things, Dayaw, Fables, Halina, K+, Mi Mi, Minaw, Naïv, Nanay Mo, Novocrane, Peej, Pinkmen, Spacedog Spacecat, The Revisors, Ultraviolet, Uncle Bob’s Funky Seven Club, and Ysanygo — each bringing a fresh perspective and energy that defines the indie music scene.

“What truly guided our choices was the quality and energy of the artists’ live performances. The passion and authenticity they bring on stage, as well as the originality of their music,” Fajardo shares. “Equally important was their willingness to move forward with the program, showing openness to growth and collaboration. It’s this raw connection and genuine spirit that sets them apart.”

Jack Daniel’s On Stage will unfold through quality pocket shows, offering artists and audiences opportunities to engage with grassroots communities and the broader indie music scene. Highlights include PROD NIGHTS, running from September 2025 to March 2026, featuring 23 sponsored shows from the program’s indie production partners, whose efforts are recognized and supported by Jack Daniel’s On Stage as essential to keeping the indie scene thriving.

Fans can also experience MIXTAPE, happening on November 15 and December 13, 2025, where the 20 championed indie artists are paired up to perform reimagined full-set collaborations of each other’s songs, highlighting the sense of community and creative versatility within the indie music scene.

Another key initiative, SOUNDCHECK, will feature three interactive voting events from January to March 2026, giving audiences a meaningful voice in shaping which artists advance. SESSIONS, also set for January to March 2026, allows the 20 acts to showcase their music live online via the official radio partner, Jam 88.3.

The Jack Daniel’s On Stage Media & Trade Mix event was hosted at Monarch Manila, the official venue partner, with Jam 88.3 as the official radio partner and Billboard Philippines as the official music media partner.

Doc Def Productions, Funky Beat Entertainment, GNN, Locked Down Entertainment, Otelik Presents, SYQL, The Flying Lugaw, and Red Ninja Productions are the proud indie production partners of Jack Daniel’s On Stage – Road to Indiefest.

“Let Love Be the Gift” by Christian Bautista and Abi Marquez ushers in the Christmas season

Christmas in the Philippines starts as soon as September arrives on the calendar, and this year, Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista is formally launching the season with something special. With Freddie Santos writing the lyrics and Jose Mari Chan composing the music, Christian released a sincere rendition of the well-known Jose Mari Chan song “Let Love Be the Gift,” on September 1. This time, the song was a duet with Abi Marquez, the “Lumpia Queen” of the Philippines.

Released with the approval of Jose Mari Chan and his label Signature Music Inc., the record was produced by Christian, had music arranged by the renowned Homer Flores, and was teased on social media with a cute picture of the three of them playingfully peeking out.

The collaboration came naturally—both Christian and Abi are artists under NYMA Talent Management, where Christian also serves as CEO. As he began mapping out his annual holiday project, he searched for the perfect duet partner who could match the magic of the season. Abi, a close friend of Christian’s, fit the bill perfectly.

Though best known as the Philippines’ Lumpia Queen, Abi has long held a quiet love for music, even taking voice lessons before her rise to internet fame. With her natural charm, engaging presence, and a sweet sincerity in her voice, she brought just the right touch of brightness. Paired with Christian’s timeless vocals, their duet blossomed into a heartfelt celebration of Christmas.

Christian personally guided Abi through the recording process, gently coaching her to bring out the best in her voice. The result? A holiday duet brimming with warmth, nostalgia, and the unmistakable magic of Christmas.

“Christmas has always been about love, family, and sharing joy. To sing this song again, this time with Abi, feels like a gift in itself. She’s proving herself to be a multidimensional talent, and I hope people will enjoy listening to this side of her.” – Christian Bautista

“I never imagined I’d get to record a song—much less a Christmas song with Christian! It was such a dream come true, and I hope people feel the joy we felt while making it.” – Abi Marquez

With the release of “Let Love Be the Gift,” Christian and Abi remind us that the true spirit of Christmas lies in togetherness, kindness, and, of course, music that brings us closer. From the kitchen to the stage, Abi, with her culinary charm, and Christian, with his timeless artistry, have blended their worlds into one magical duet.

And the celebration doesn’t stop here, fans can look forward to an exciting music video as the holidays draw nearer, along with other surprises that promise to spread even more Christmas cheer.

Turn on the Christmas lights, hang the parol outside your window, get a cup of hot tea, and hit play. Officially, the season of music, laughing, and love has arrived.🎄✨

Christian Bautista and Abi Marquez’s song Let Love Be the Gift is currently accessible on all streaming services.

Yeng Constantino and NOBITA work together on the new, sorrowful ballad “Gayuma”

Produced by Brian Lotho, the song tackles the hesitation of confessing one’s romantic feeling to someone

Yeng Constantino and the Filipino pop-rock quintet NOBITA collaborate on the new single “Gayuma,” which is released today by Sony Music Entertainment.

The song depicts a quiet kind of love that swells in secret, with the singer caught between wanting to disclose and being scared to take the first move.

“The lyrics capture the uncertainty—whether what you feel is genuine love or just something that seems magical, almost like a spell,” NOBITA shares in a press statement. “It reflects the theme of secret love because it’s about holding back, wondering if the other person feels the same way, and hoping the emotions are mutual.”

The track has an interesting history. According to NOBITA, the demo had been shelved for some time until they revisited it and realized something was missing. The band began considering a female collaborator who could bring balance and emotional nuance to the song.

“And there’s no one more perfect than Ms. Yeng—we’re just so lucky she agreed,” NOBITA explains. “Our first meeting was very productive. We exchanged ideas on what to add and change from the original track, which eventually shaped the final version of the song.”

For Yeng Constantino, it was love at first listen. She specifically requested that the melody of the demo’s first verse be preserved. “The whole session, I was tapping into the emotion of falling in love,” she reveals. “But once you immerse yourself in that space, you realize it’s hard to control your feelings. That energy guided our process, helping us refine the lyrics and capture the material’s vulnerability.”

The collaboration brings the best of both worlds: Yeng’s soulful but delicate singing, and the band’s heartfelt delivery. Together, their vocals stand out even in moments of fragility, exuding both power; and rawness against a simple, yet emotionally layered arrangement.

“Each artist contributed their own style and emotional depth, and rather than clashing, it blended beautifully,” NOBITA continues. Yeng’s talent and vocals enhanced the song’s authenticity.

The song’s warmth and immediacy were enhanced by producer Brian Lotho, who “made sure that the emotion in the lyrics came through in every beat and melody.”

The song Gayuma by NOBITA and Yeng Constantino is currently available on all digital music platforms globally through Sony Music Entertainment.

The AXEAN Festival’s 2025 lineup is revealed

Featuring 45 acts across three stages, this year’s festival highlights collaboration with TuneCore and The Orchard in supporting Asian indie talents

The full roster for this year’s AXEAN Festival 2025 has been formally revealed.

On September 13 and 14, 2025, 43 musical acts will perform on three stages at Jimbaran Hub in Bali, Indonesia, marking the first intra-regional showcase festival in Asia.

Metal/hardcore quintet AVHATH, popular folk duo Banda Neira, rising indie act Gozal, alternative rock group Grizzly Cluive, genre-bending band Morbid Monke, indie rock powerhouse Sandstorm of Youth, melancholic indie group Sourmilk, multi-talented musician Xandega, and a special collaboration set between Bandung-based punk rock band Dongker and renowned singer-songwriter Jason Ranti round out the final round of performers.

The announcement also brings an exciting mix of Asian talents, such as trailblazing Malaysian R&B artist Alextbh, Laotian musician BIGPOM, Thai indie rock act LEMONY, Thai rock band Cvptain Morgans, Japanese singer-songwriter Kiwako Ashimine, J-indie artist Mettya Bizin (めっちゃ美人), Vietnamese indie/dream pop project Milkiwav, Vietnamese indie act Nghịch, and Filipino genre-fluid band Weejah.

These artists join an already diverse roster that includes Billyrrom., Blindfold, Capt’n Trips and the Kid, Confined White, DJ Love, DOOR PLANT, Fauxe, Feel Koplo x Toxicdev!, Jangar, Johnny Mafia, Kelompok Penerbang Roket, La Cima Cartel, L’Alphalpha, Lustbass, MANJA, Ministry Of, One Click Straight, Shanghai Quitian, Shye, SIMILE LAND, S.O.L.E., Su San, Terrer, Valentina Ploy, and XANDEGA.

TuneCore’s key role in curating the final batch of lineup

This year, TuneCore plays a pivotal role in shaping the final lineup, expanding its position as one of AXEAN Festival’s most important partners. Through a four-month, multi-stage submission and rigid selection process spanning five countries in Southeast Asia, TuneCore helped discover and elevate standout independent voices that have made a mark in their niche markets.

Cyrus Chen, Head of TuneCore Southeast Asia, recalls the selection process that they went through before picking the finest acts that show global potential. “It began with open biweekly submissions, attracting over 600 entries,” Cyrus explains. “Selected artists progressed to monthly live showcases at local venues, with each monthly winner advancing to country finals. Out of the 27 finalists, our local panels chose the six artists performing at AXEAN. The biggest surprise was probably the incredible depth of undiscovered talent. We found remarkable hidden gems across diverse and often genre-blending styles. What was particularly striking was how many of these artists hadn’t formally released music yet.”

When asked about the criteria in picking the artists who made it to TuneCore’s AXEAN stage, Cyrus emphasized the importance of authenticity and range, and how beyond raw talent, there’s a need to prioritize artists whose music authentically integrates local flair and cultural influences. “Showcasing a diverse spectrum of genres was also essential,” he adds.

For their part, the top global distribution and label services company, along with AXEAN Festival, promises to use their platform to foster real-world opportunities, apart from empowering artists digitally. “We actively nurture talent by providing platforms for exposure, facilitating live performance experience at scale (from local venues to major festivals), educational opportunities (workshops and masterclasses to upskill artists), and connecting artists directly with new audiences and industry stakeholders across borders. We go beyond distribution to open doors for market access and career growth that are often out of reach for independent artists.”

The Orchard-AXEAN Festival partnership

The Orchard, a prominent music distribution company operating in over 49 cities worldwide, has expressed its support for AXEAN Festival through a strategic partnership. Both music entities share a vision of empowering artists to broaden their horizons and access new music markets beyond their turfs. Together, both AXEAN and The Orchard are keen on dismantling barriers and enabling Southeast Asian creative communities to showcase their music on a global stage.

As Prahlad Prabhas, The Orchard’s Senior Director, Southeast Asia, explains it, “This [collaboration] aligns perfectly with The Orchard’s philosophy of helping artists grow outside their home markets. We’re thrilled to be part of that journey this year by sponsoring a stage. For us, it’s more than just about the music—it’s about celebrating the creativity and energy of this region and sharing it with the world.”

The Filipino R&B King Jay R collaborates with Shanice, a pop musician residing in Los Angeles, on the song “Never Ever”

The new track was helmed and co-written by multi-platinum producer Mark Feist, who’s worked with globally renowned artists like Beyonce, Celine Dion, Outkast, Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Lopez, and more

OPM legend Jay R collaborates with pop upstart Shanice from Los Angeles on the song “Never Ever,” which was released on Friday, August 22, 2025 through Hitmakers Entertainment and Symphonic Asia.

The sophisticated R&B hit, which was produced and co-written by Grammy-nominated Mark Feist, Shanice, and Jay R, addresses a type of love that endures even when things don’t fit. “Never Ever” evokes the comforting warmth of returning home to a loved one, promising commitment even during life’s coldest seasons, with sultry and soulful vocals that cut through a backdrop of luscious strings, slow-burning beats, and mesmerizing instrumentation.

Never Ever is about love and wanting it forever,” says Mark Feist, the chart-topping producer behind worldwide hits like Destiny’s Child’s Emotions. “It’s a tale as old as time, and something all people can relate to, whether it manifests in the form of love, loss, or longing.”

[UNIVERSAL LINK]

The track’s creative journey began with Shanice’s scratch melody, which Feist reimagined from a straightforward 4/4 into a sweeping 6/8 to give the song a more cinematic, flowing quality. From there, he restructured the arrangement, placing the hook at the forefront and refining the chord progression to build emotional momentum.

The recording took place between Los Angeles and Manila, with Shanice and Jay R laying their vocals in separate studios. Feist incorporated live instrumentation, tapping Erick Walls (Usher, Beyoncé, Michael Jackson) on electric guitar and Courtney Leonard (Chris Brown, Beyoncé) on bass. Every sonic detail was shaped to enhance the emotional arc of the lyrics, from the delicate intro to the soaring, anthemic chorus.

“Once the lyrics were complete and Jay R added his Tagalog parts, the song kind of produced itself,” recalls Feist. “I heard all of these amazing string parts in my head, wrote them down and built the track around that lush foundation. This is one of the productions that I’m most proud of—not only for the music, but the way it brought together incredible talent from two continents into one seamless piece of art.”

For Jay R and Shanice, the collaboration brought the best of both worlds, literally and figuratively. “Shanice wrote the song and presented it already perfect,” reveals the King of R&B. “I just added a few Tagalog lyrics to better fit our market. She’s incredibly talented, and we share a natural chemistry on stage.”

Shanice shares the same sentiment, praising Jay R for his commitment to the collaborative process. “Working with Jay R is so cool! The creative process was natural and easy. He’s so talented and experienced, and I learned so much from him. Never Ever has been one of the highlights of my journey so far.”

Guji Lorenzana, who oversees the project’s promotional efforts through Symphonic Asia, believes that while Never Ever resonates in today’s music climate, it has a timeless edge that people from different generations would appreciate. He affirms that both artists have a promising future not just in the Philippines, but around the world.

“I think Never Ever feels especially relevant right now because we’re seeing a reemergence of that OG R&B sound, both in the Philippines and the USA,” the record label executive explains.  “It’s a style that instantly takes you back but still feels fresh today. For me, this track hits home the production is top-notch, the vibe is smooth, and the chemistry between Jay R and Shanice is undeniable. I hope listeners feel that same connection, whether it’s love at first listen or something that grows on them with every replay.”

Jay R and Shanice’s “Never Ever” is out on all digital music platforms worldwide this Friday, August 22, 2025 via Hitmakers Entertainment and Symphonic Asia.

Miguel Benjamin of Ben&Ben co-wrote the song “Kuryente,” which features Jolianne and Ziv

The track navigates the heart-melting feeling of infatuation and young love

Acclaimed Korean producer Ziv collaborates with up-and-coming Filipino musician Jolianne on the sticky-sweet pop soul song “Kuryente,” which perfectly encapsulates the early phases of infatuation.

Miguel Benjamin of the award-winning band Ben&Ben co-wrote “Kuryente” as a love letter to his wife, with Jolianne and Ziv contributing equally. The song was inspired by the couple’s personal stories about how they get little shocks of static electricity everytime their hands come into contact. This delicate detail helped to define the song, which Ziv’s elaborate yet lighthearted production and Jolianne’s shimmering rendition later brought to life.

“That inspired me to make and produce this playful song about how infatuation and early romance feels,” shares Ziv. “I really wanted to hit the right balances of expressing who I was through my musical background. Being Korean yet being born here in the Philippines, I wanted to find the right balance of putting both of those influences into the production, which I feel makes it unique.”

For Jolianne, embracing that feeling meant channeling innocence, excitement, and the thrill of being lit up by someone’s presence. To prepare for the vocal take, Jolianne envisioned herself as the lead in a teleserye, where every glance and touch is charged with meaning. She wanted to interpret the material with the right mix of sweetness, playfulness, and kilig—a uniquely Filipino word that captures the fluttering joy of being overwhelmed by romance.

“Vocally, this was one of the more challenging songs I’ve put out because it pushed me to access my voice in a different way,” the “Plain Girl” songstress adds. “From a technical standpoint, I experimented a lot with dynamics and registers. And of course, singing in Tagalog also shaped the way I sounded here, adding another layer of character to the performance.”

Blending funky pop groove with heart-stopping charisma, “Kuryente” pulls off its tricks by pairing Jolianne’s silky, infectious vocals with Ziv’s soulful and Korean R&B-style production.

“I always want to include a blend of ease and tension in my productions,” Ziv says. I therefore aimed for a groove that was infused with a romantic vibe in this composition. Additionally, a lot of the musicians and music I’ve been enjoying lately served as inspiration.

Kuryente by Jolianne and Ziv is currently available on all digital music platforms globally through Sony Music Entertainment.
