My Encounter with super Typhoon Ulysses

12 hours black out during the typhoon
12 hours black out during the typhoon

Scared, anxious, nervous, these are the feelings that surround the four corners of our house when the super typhoon Ulysses makes it landfall in the Philippines.

Before the super typhoon Ulysses (Vamco) makes it landfall, Pag-asa gives an announcement that the incoming typhoon will be categorized as Super Typhoon. Upon hearing that news I decided to fix my things if evacuation is needed. I put all my appliances high enough so that water can’t reach it in case there will be flood in our area. The anxiety of the super typhoon brought me more awareness of what preparation I should do in this incoming calamity.

My relatives in Marikina

November 11, 2020 at 10:30 in the evening is the night where super typhoon Ulysses make its landfall in Quezon Province with a sustained wind of 150 km/hr. with a gustiness of 205 km/hr. That is the news I’ve heard early in the morning the landfall of typhoon Ulysses is far from my residence but we felt the destructive winds whimpering around and the torrential rainfall. We also experience black out in our place for almost 12 hours. It makes us feel more worried because there is no news and communication circulating during the calamity. Instead of stressing myself more I did open my cell phone and browse to get information of what is happening especially in those places that highly affected by the typhoon. I’ve read that there was a rapid increase of water in several areas including Metro Manila. These things led to increase of hardship of vulnerable people and destruction in many houses and establishment. Bicol also which was previously affected by the typhoon Rolly got experience heavy rains and strong winds brought by typhoon Ulysses.

Other places affected by the typhoon

Overall I’m so thankful that me and my family are safe even if they get flooded and experience the destructive typhoon in their places. I’m also thankful for the bayanihan spirit that never failed to arise, many people help each other and Filipino surpass this kind of problem amidst the Covid-19. Thus, this typhoon Ulysses taught us to be united especially in this time where unpredictable things are happening. We should calm ourselves and always prepare for the things we need if such a typhoon takes place. Everyone must also make themselves aware of what to do during this time and be informed in the latest news in the television and radio. If there are announcements of evacuation coming from our LGI we must initiate to follow and leave our places as soon as possible. Lastly, prayers are our greatest weapon in this moment of calamities
