In their latest EP, Gusto Ko Lang Maalala, the Filipino band The Vowels They Orbit speaks the language of longing

The third EP offers a soft yet striking reminder that while moments fade, the feelings they leave behind stays forever

With their third EP, gusto ko lang maalala, Filipino indie pop band the vowels they orbit (tvto) returns with a gentle yet profound reflection on love, loss, nostalgia, and the act of remembering.

Following their sophomore release, gusto ko lang maalala continues their journey, this time inviting listeners into a more introspective space. The EP captures the bittersweet nature of memory, recognizing that as time moves forward, the people and moments we once held dear inevitably transform, even if only slightly.

Selfir with the vowels they orbit

I greatly enjoyed hearing their thoughts and witnessing the event that explored how they see longing from a different perspective. From gusto ko lang maalala, I realized that it beautifully captures how memories can be both comforting and painful. the vowels they orbit remind us that while time changes the things and people we love, remembering them—no matter how fragmented—keeps their meaning alive within us.

Led by the haunting single “miss na kita,” the EP encapsulates the quiet pain of longing, be it for a person, a place, or even a former version of oneself. As lead vocalist Nikka Melchor explains it, “I wrote ‘miss na kita’ one morning because I wanted to express that sudden feeling of missing your younger self. But it’s not limited to that narrative. The meaning differs per person, from loss of self to loss of a loved one.”

Guitarist Gene Santiago adds, “It’s about longing: for someone, something, a moment in time, or a dream. It’s like wanting to stop time just to breathe for a while or turn it back to experience those things again.”

True to its theme, gusto ko lang maalala carries a sound that is both ethereal and emotionally grounded. The musical arrangements perfectly mirror the intimacy of the narrative, resulting in an experience that feels like flipping through the pages of a photo album.

“When we started coming up with our individual parts, one of the things I asked my bandmates to do was to really listen to the emotions of the lyrics,” Nikka shares. “That was one of our conscious efforts for this EP. Even small details like the basslines in ‘miss na kita’ dancing along to the sadness on the second verse, or the guitar work in ‘para bago’ sounding like a flashback, these things are vital and part of the emotional cues.”

The EP was produced by Soupstar Music’s Darwin Hernandez, with arrangements from Filipino rock icons Raymund Marasigan and Buddy Zabala of Eraserheads, and additional production support from Eunice Jorge of Gracenote. Recording took place at Velvet Playground Studio in Marikina, marking tvto’s first time in the space.

“Working with Raymund and Buddy was surreal,” the band recalls. “We were nervous at first, but they made the process chill and collaborative. It was amazing how even small changes transformed the song completely. We learned so much in just one session.”

The new EP features three original tracks and one special rendition of a classic hit, each one tracing a different shade of longing. From the introspective songwriting of “miss na kita” to the upbeat yet wistful energy of “basta” and “para bago,” every track carries its own sonic blueprint.

Metro Manila is home to the five-piece independent pop-rock group the vowels they orbit. Their music embodies the everyday poetry of contemporary Filipino youth, and they are well-known for their poignant lyricism and melodic pop sensibility. Nikka Melchor on vocals and guitars, Hannah Dela Cruz on keyboards and vocals, Gene Santiago on guitars, and Patch Javier on bass make up the Filipino band.

the vowels they orbit’s gusto ko lang maalala is currently available on all digital music platforms across the globe through Sony Music Entertainment.

Schneider Electric is one of the Philippine companies stepping up their sustainability efforts to encourage growth in the face of economic uncertainty

  • In 2025, 97% of local companies have set sustainability targets. However, only 51% have implemented comprehensive strategies, leaving a 46% gap between ambition and execution.
  • 92% of companies in the Philippines this year are already applying or interested to apply AI to advance their sustainability ambitions, demonstrating its potential as a sustainability accelerant.
  • For the private sector, sustainability investments remain constrained, with economic uncertainty still the top concern but easing from 49% in 2024 to 45% in 2025.

Global energy technology leader Schneider Electric today released the findings of its annual Green Impact Gap survey, which showed that Philippine business executives increasingly see sustainability as a driver of growth and competitiveness, despite citing geopolitical unrest and economic uncertainty as obstacles to additional sustainability investment.

97% of businesses have set sustainability goals. According to 58% of them, technological improvements have made sustainability reporting easier in the past year. However, 32% still have difficulties, citing things like growing expenses.

This year, 55% of company leaders identify innovation and competitiveness as key drivers of sustainability, with the strongest emphasis from the semiconductors (71%) and data centers (60%) sectors, followed by real estate (53%) and healthcare (52%). This underscores how industries increasingly link sustainability with business innovation.

Sustainability is also delivering tangible business value. This year, 52% of leaders say it creates new business opportunities, up from 42% in 2024. Similarly, 42% pursue sustainability to strengthen brand and reputation, compared with 32% last year, while 46% cite cost savings and financial benefits, up from 43%. These year-on-year gains demonstrate that sustainability has evolved from a peripheral initiative into a core strategy for competitiveness and resilience.

Misalignment between declared goals and tangible action persists

While findings underscore the growing commitment to sustainability in the Philippines, they also reveal a persistent ‘Green Impact Gap’ — the misalignment between companies’ declared sustainability goals and the tangible actions taken to achieve them. This year, 97% of companies set targets, but less than half are taking comprehensive action, keeping the regional Green Impact Gap at 46%.

With 2025 marking a critical milestone on the path to 2030 climate goals, companies remain optimistic. Around 84% express confidence in meeting or exceeding their 2030 targets, while 20% report being more than three years ahead of schedule.

“Companies across the Philippines are not just weathering the storm—they’re using sustainability as a compass to navigate it,” said Ireen Catane, Country President, Schneider Electric Philippines. “Despite volatile economic conditions, early movers and adopters are turning to digitalization and AI to drive efficiency, mitigate risk, and create lasting value.”

In parallel, two-thirds of companies (66%) report being very or moderately familiar with Republic Act 11285, the Philippines’ Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act. Among these, 85% express moderate to high confidence in meeting its requirements, signaling readiness to implement concrete energy-efficiency measures. This trend aligns with the DOE’s national efforts to promote energy efficiency, supporting businesses and local governments in optimizing energy use while advancing sustainability goals.

AI unlocks cost savings and energy efficiency

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is helping companies address financial and energy risks. 92% of companies in the Philippines this year are already applying or interested to apply AI to advance their sustainability ambitions. At 59%, AI for energy consumption optimization now tops the list of energy and resource efficiency applications, rising ahead of waste management (50%) and smart building management and automation (49%).

Companies see AI’s biggest impact on sustainability in automating data collection and reporting (51%), optimizing energy use (44%), and enhancing product design (44%). By improving energy efficiency, AI helps mitigate cost risks, aligning with the 46% of company leaders who cite financial benefits and savings as key drivers for sustainability amid persistent energy price concerns.

With the rise of energy demand in the Philippines, which the Department of Energy (DOE) projects will grow 4–5% annually and potentially double total power consumption by 2040 under the Philippine Energy Plan, companies continued to adjust their decarbonization strategies in 2025. The most widely adopted measures were switching to low-carbon or electric vehicles for transport (27%, up from 25%), and investing in research and development to drive innovation in low carbon technologies (27%, up from 25%).

From 2024 to 2025, companies advanced in cutting Scope 2 emissions—indirect emissions from purchased energy such as electricity, steam, heating, and cooling—through onsite renewables (34%, up from 29%) and energy-efficient equipment (41%, unchanged). They also adopted emerging measures like Green IT plans (31%). Efforts to reduce Scope 3, or value chain, emissions also grew, with gains in supply chain optimization (33%, up from 29%) and in promoting remote work and video conferencing to cut commuting and travel-related emissions (31%, up from 30%).

Investments hold steady despite economic uncertainty

With business leaders seeing the bottom-line benefit of sustainability, planned investment in sustainability transformation has held steady with 23% of companies planning to invest at least $US1 million over the next two years.

While major barriers to investment in sustainability still exist, most have somewhat decreased annually. Although it decreased from 49% in 2024 to 45% in 2025, economic uncertainty is still the biggest worry. Internal budgetary restrictions declined more sharply, from 48% to 37%, while weak incentives (36% to 35%) and regulatory and policy challenges (37% to 35%) also slightly declined. These changes imply that, despite ongoing structural and financial difficulties, the investment environment in 2025 is comparatively better for corporate sustainability than it was in 2024.

In its third year, 4,500 middle- to senior-level executives from nine Asian markets—Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam—participated in the Schneider Electric Green Impact Gap survey, which was carried out in collaboration with Milieu Insight. The survey consists of 30 questions that gather information about how companies are prioritizing and investing in sustainability.

As LIFT intensifies its first MassKara experience, festival attendees dared to switch

Festival-goers joined the fun as LIFT brought its bold spirit to MassKara for the first time.

With its debut at the MassKara Festival, Coca-Cola Philippines’ newest beverage, LIFT, gave the streets of Bacolod a thrilling lift. As thousands of festival attendees took on the “Dare to Switch” challenge, the three-day activity along Lacson Street became one of the most talked-about locations.

Exciting activities that embodied LIFT’s daring challenger attitude were at the center of the activation. Participants showed their strength at the LIFT UpBar, struck imaginative postures at the LIFT Art Photo Wall, and demonstrated their steadfast attention and coordination at the LIFT Bottle Up challenge. They also raced against the clock to solve the LIFT Maze. Every game pushed players’ boundaries, gave them more self-assurance, and inspired them to keep going.

Attendees eagerly joined the activities at the grand LIFT booth, won exclusive prizes, and captured their unforgettable MassKara moments.

The LIFT booth buzzed with excitement as festival-goers lined up to take their shot at beating the timer and outscoring others. Many also stopped to capture their share-worthy moments at the booth and turned the experience into an online celebration of the challenger mindset. Across every challenge, the LIFT booth became a space where high spirits met determination, proving that anyone can dare to switch.

“LIFT’s first-ever MassKara activation was a celebration of the bold spirit that defines both the brand and the festival,” said Frenissa Mae Lagman, Frontline Marketing Senior Director of Coca-Cola Philippines. “MassKara is all about uplifting the Filipino spirit, and LIFT embodies that same drive — to face every challenge with confidence and dare to switch when it’s time to level up.”

After electrifying thousands of attendees and introducing more Filipinos to the brand’s spirit of challenge, LIFT left its imprint as the festival came to a conclusion. Are you prepared to change? LIFT is currently offered in sari-sari stores in Western Visayas, and there will be more activities and events around the country.

IV OF SPADES makes a triumphant comeback with their sophomore album, Andalucia

Forged in friendship and fueled by freedom, the album reflects their evolution from breakout stars to generational rock icons

With the release of their sophomore album, Andalucia, on November 5, 2025, on all digital music platforms worldwide through Sony Music Entertainment, Filipino pop-rock juggernaut IV OF SPADES makes their much anticipated homecoming.

Their last full-length album, CLAPCLAPCLAP, was released seven years ago after a six-year break! (2019), the legendary band comes back together with a record that embodies friendship, artistic development, and newfound unity. By revealing the tenderness that exists in codes and expressing situations and events in cryptic yet poetic exquisiteness, Andalucia solidifies their status as one of the defining acts of contemporary OPM without ever feeling the need to clarify or expound.

Following a surprise reunion last July through the double release of “Aura” and “Nanaman,” IV OF SPADES presents Andalucia as the full realization of their creative rebirth. “We needed to prioritize ourselves and our relationship first before working on a new project while we weren’t okay,” the multi-awarded band shares in a press statement. “It would’ve felt meaningless if we hadn’t fixed our bond before returning to making music.”

Co-produced by the Aura act with Brian Lotho and Emil Dela Rosa, Andalucia features twelve tracks that traverse genres and emotions while maintaining the band’s penchant for introspective songwriting and subtle sonic experiments. Leading the record is the explosive focus track “Monster,” a vibrant yet gritty rock anthem that fuses retro influences with modern edge. Other highlights include “Aura,” the first song the band wrote together after reuniting; “Nanaman,” featuring Blaster Silonga on vocals; “Suliranin,” an escapist anthem that invites listeners to leave their worries behind and eventually lose themselves; and “Konsensya,” a crossover tune with ‘90s alt, indie, and Britpop influences.

The chart-topping band explains, “Thematically speaking, we talk about things in life: flaws, people, and topics that often aren’t discussed openly. It’s more fun now because we have more songs. The direction is clearer, and the process is more collaborative.”

In making Andalucia, IV OF SPADES approached production with spectacle grounded in authenticity. “We wanted a sound that we could play live,” they share. “The production is ambitious, so we started by jamming the songs before recording them.”

After years apart, the band found their chemistry intact, perhaps stronger than ever. Their creative process was guided not by ego, but by intuition and respect.

Behind the music, moments of simplicity reminded them why they started making music together in the first place. “What truly matters are the small things. Eating together. Whoever’s late buys the coffee. Sometimes we’d turn off the aircon, so we’d all be sweating while recording.”

The band’s sold-out performance at the Mall of Asia Arena on December 12, 2025, corresponds with the release of Andalucia; owing to excessive demand, December 13 was just added. These performances, which will be presented by Karpos Multimedia, will celebrate IV OF SPADES’ path and future by showcasing both reinvented classics and new material for the first time

ANDALUCIA track list:

  1. Tara
  2. Monster
  3. Paru-paro
  4. Nanaman

In the music video for “Rainbow,” Christian Bautista and Raisa transform everyday situations into spectacular ones

The two beloved artists turn quiet moments into symbols of joy and connection in a heartfelt visual narrative

If we take the time to observe them, even the most basic events in life can have the greatest significance.

The current single, “Rainbow,” which features Indonesian pop icon Raisa and Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista, is centered around this understanding. The music video, which was just released, tenderly depicts hope, connection, and the beauty of the commonplace.

The visual story takes place at a picturesque café in Jakarta, where both artists are enjoying a peaceful escape from the busy craziness of contemporary city life.

“The video is about how the simplest, most ordinary moments in our day can actually become the ‘rainbows’ we need — small sparks of hope that make a big difference,” shares Christian Bautista. “The music video was directed by Jonathan Tal Placido of Toothless Productions. He and his team flew to Jakarta to make this vision come alive, and they captured that message beautifully.”

Delicately crafted, the music video mirrors the song’s lyrical warmth with cinematic grace. Every frame invites viewers to rediscover fulfillment hidden within everyday experiences: coffee shared between friends, laughter exchanged across a table, and the peace found in simply being present.

Beyond its narrative, “Rainbow” also celebrates harmony between cultures. The collaboration between Christian Bautista and Raisa bridges Filipino and Indonesian artistry, and the choice to film in Jakarta infuses the visuals with an authentic sense of place and emotional truth.

“The city added warmth, texture, and authenticity to the visuals and helped us reflect the connection the song celebrates,” he explains.

“It was so exciting,” Bautista adds of working with Raisa once more. “Our biggest challenge was really scheduling — but once it finally happened, we were both thrilled to bring this project to life. Seeing it all come together after months of planning was such a rewarding moment.”

The music video for “Rainbow” honors common beauty and the unspoken ties that bind people together across national boundaries. Christian Bautista and Raisa’s collaboration serves as a reminder to listeners that happiness frequently comes from the little things in life rather than the big or spectacular.

Christian Bautista and Raisa’s song Rainbow is currently accessible on all major streaming services across the globe thanks to Sony Music Entertainment. Click here to view Christian Bautista’s song video.
