When Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation (APC) successfully held its Eat Well, Live Well: 2024 Youth Summit at the Marco Polo Plaza Hotel in Cebu City, it was a day of empowerment, education, and dedication to sustainability and health. This year’s summit, which built on the success of the previous one, brought together more than 150 passionate young Filipinos, educators, and activists for a day of wellness, sustainable living, and nutrition.

The 2024 Youth Summit is a component of APC’s continuous effort to provide the future generation with the skills and information necessary to improve their communities and the environment. In order to promote a culture of sustainability and wellness among Gen Z attendees, the event was jam-packed with interactive workshops, thought-provoking presentations, and cooperative activities.

Empowering Cebu’s Youth for a Healthier Future

APC Group President Koichi Ozaki delivered a remarkable message to the youth and shared Ajinomoto’s vision for a healthier, more sustainable Philippines. “The mission of APC is to contribute to food and wellness to better lives of the future and we take it upon us to inspire the younger generations to become champions of a healthy and sustainable future,” said Mr. Ozaki. “Ajinomoto is here to make your eating experience happy, healthy and satisfying.”

Throughout the day, participants engaged in panel discussions with experts from the Department of Agriculture (DA), represented by Ms. Cheryl de la Victoria, Chief of Regional Agricultural and Fisheries Information Section and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), represented by Ms. Maria Victoria V. Abrera, Regional Director for Central Visayas, exploring key topics such as sustainable nutrition, waste reduction, and wellness practices. Interactive Activities and Youth-Led Solutions

The summit featured hands-on activities, allowing attendees to actively participate in brainstorming solutions for real-world sustainability challenges. In one of the day’s highlights, a Youth-Led Output Activity encouraged participants to develop actionable ideas for living healthier and more eco-conscious lives. Groups collaborated to present innovative approaches, from reducing food waste to promoting planet-based diets, which encourage the increase in consumption of vegetables as reflected in Ajinomoto’s “Eat Well, Live Well” philosophy.

Another successful run of Eat Well, Live Well 2024 Youth Summit by Ajinomoto Philippines Corporation!

The breakout room sessions also gave opportunities for all student attendees to gain first-hand learning experience about the science behind MSG plus witness how vegetables can be turned into a delicious dish using almost all its parts with nearly zero-waste. The best part, they all got to taste it.

A ceremonial pledge concluded the event, with all participants vowing to implement the lessons learned and advocate for healthier, more sustainable lifestyles within their communities.

A Continued Commitment to Health and Sustainability

Ajinomoto’s global goal of increasing healthy life expectancy and lowering environmental impact by 50% by 2030 is in line with the company’s Eat Well, Live Well: 2024 Youth Summit. APC Group continues to motivate young Filipinos to take the initiative and lead in environmental and health stewardship through significant events like this one.

APC Group is also bringing the Aji-Ginisa® I Love Veggie-licious School Caravan to Cebu, at the Lahug Elementary School, to demonstrate the force behind Ajinomoto’s advocacy for a better and healthier future for all Filipino children. This will help to continue educating and motivating the next generation about the value of eating a healthy diet.

Outstanding Corporate Governance. Atty. Vem King, Jollibee Group’s Associate General Counsel, EMEAA, Corporate & Commercial Global, and Legal Business Partner Global and Philippines, (2nd from left), receives the Golden Arrow Award on behalf of the Company during the recently held ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard Awards by the Institute of Corporate Directors. This is the third consecutive year that the Jollibee Group has been cited for its strong corporate governance practices.

For the third year in a row, the Jollibee Group has received the Institute of Corporate Directors’ (ICD) 1-Golden Arrow Recognition, enhancing its standing as a company with good governance, accountability, and transparency. The honor, which was given out at the most recent Golden Arrow Awards, demonstrates the business’s ongoing dedication to maintaining the greatest standards of moral leadership and corporate responsibility.

“Receiving this award for the third year in a row reflects the Jollibee Group’s dedication to doing business the right way—responsibly, transparently, and with integrity. It also affirms our commitment to corporate governance and sustainability, as we continue our journey towards becoming one of the top five restaurant companies in the world,” said Jollibee Group Global Chief Legal, Ethics and Compliance Officer Atty. Valerie Feria Amante.

The ASEAN Corporate Governance Scorecard (ACGS), which measures adherence to corporate governance principles, is used by the Golden Arrow Awards to assess publicly traded corporations within the region. Businesses that receive a score of 80 points or more, such as Jollibee Group, are granted the coveted Golden Arrow, which denotes their adherence to both international best practices and the Philippine Code of Corporate Governance.

The ACGS evaluates corporate governance performance in a number of important categories, including transparency, fair treatment of stakeholders, shareholder rights, and the board’s function in strategic leadership and supervision. By highlighting well-run businesses, the scorecard seeks to improve governance standards in the Philippines and draw in long-term investment.

Iskaparate.com Celebrates World Entrepreneurs’ Day with a Digital Launch and a Christmas Mooncake Workshop

Photo shows from left: Iskaparate President & COO Josefina Rojo-Natividad, All About Baking Director Kyne Gorospe, Chef Instructor Catherine Blas-Yu, DTC Promos Inc. President & COO Marissa Dames, and Unox Corporate Chef Karhen Igarashi in a fun photo opportunity to celebrate workshop success and a trusted partnership.

Chef Cathy Yu of Save Bakery and Café Philippines will be hosting a Christmas Mooncake Workshop at All About Baking SM North EDSA, The Block, as part of Iskaparate.com’s digital media launch in honor of World Entrepreneurs’ Day on November 19, 2024.

The digital debut, which followed its recent October 15, 2024, opening at Overdoughs Café in Ayala Malls Circuit, Makati, sought to illustrate the platform’s capabilities beyond simply a multi-vendor e-commerce platform.

Iskaparate.com highlighted through a practical workshop conducted by a baking industry specialist that it also offers training to help individuals refine their abilities and knowledge and explore other fields of competence that promote both technical business improvement and personal development.

As we tackled the ventures of Iskaparate, we learned a lot from them and enjoyed each thing that they had shared with us. One of the activities that we did during the media lunch was teaching us how to bake. I really had a wonderful time and enjoyed it very much since I don’t know how to cook. This activity became a tough challenge for me, and I managed it successfully. Aside from that, we had acquired different skills, knowledge, and ideas from them.

Two members of the core team of Iskaparate.com, DTC Promos Inc. and Iskaparate President & COO Josefina Natividad, attended the session. Marissa Dames, the president and COO, as well as a number of media representatives, internet influencers, and content producers from many industries.

In addition to learning about Iskaparate.com’s mission and story, the guests had the opportunity to observe how mooncakes are made in advance of the holidays, which gave them a sense of what it’s like to be a part of the community.

One of the highlights of the event was a brief speech by Chef Alphie Azarias, Marketing Development Specialist at Unox Asia. Chef Klyne Gorospe of All About Baking then gave a warm welcome to the guests and expressed excitement about soon joining Iskaparate.com as a vendor, expanding the platform’s offerings to include high-end professional kitchen equipment and in-demand baking supplies.

In 2020, Iskaparate.com was established to assist business-minded women in maintaining their operations amidst the COVID-19 epidemic. On the new platform, there are now 3,000 thoroughly screened sellers of all kinds, compared to 33 nanays in the past.

Since then, the original objective has expanded to include empowering local community vendors and micro, small, and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs) through business-to-business (B2B) partnerships and assisting them in navigating the digital economy through a variety of marketing methods and business growth prospects. With the opening of Ozam, its Canadian portal, and plans for gateways in the US and Singapore, the platform will soon expand globally.

With its B2B expansion, Iskaparate.com offers merchants easy access to wholesale products, competitive pricing, and strategic alliances with major companies in the market like Suy Sing and Hypha. For distributors, owners of sari-sari stores, restaurants, caterers, and other small companies in the Philippines, this negosyo platform promises simplified procedures, financial support, and an intuitive user experience.

The B2B platform offered by Iskaparate.com is revolutionary for companies of all sizes, from little sari-sari shops to major wholesalers. Schneider Electric Introduces Safety-Focused, Circular-Ready MasterPacT MTZ Active Circuit Breakers, Revolutionizing Industry 4.0

  • Schneider Electric officially launches the MasterPacT MTZ Active in the Philippines, setting new benchmarks for energy safety, efficiency, and sustainability in local commercial industries such as buildings, healthcare, data centers, manufacturing, and infrastructure.
  • The MasterPacT MTZ Active is Schneider Electric’s latest flagship Air Circuit Breaker (ACB), designed to address daily operational challenges such as 24/7 uptime demands and rising energy costs.
  • It is a certified Green Premium™ product with over 30% circularity, designed for refurbishment and reduced waste.

During the recent launch of MasterPacT MTZ Active held at The Fifth at Rockwell, Makati City, Glen Dedicatoria, Business Director at Schneider Electric Philippines, highlighted the company’s approach to circularity and sustainability, advocating for power resiliency as a crucial component of Industry 4.0.

With the release of the MasterPacT MTZ Active, an air circuit breaker (ACB) technology that tackles problems like 24/7 uptime demands, rising energy costs, and urgent sustainability practices across industries like buildings, healthcare, data centers, manufacturing, and infrastructure, Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, supports critical industries as the Philippines embraces digital transformation.

The MasterPacT MTZ Active, which has been developing ACB technology for more than 37 years, protects electrical systems from overloads and ground faults while offering immediate, configurable protection against short circuits.

“This advanced technology not only mitigates immediate energy challenges, but it also protects our industries from long-term climate risks and makes their operations more sustainable as it minimizes downtime risks, ensures business continuity while protecting critical systems from damage,” said Glen Dedicatoria, Business Director at Schneider Electric Philippines.

The Philippines has experienced an 11.2% rise in energy consumption in recent years, increasing from 106,115 gigawatt hours (GWh) in 2021 to 118,004 GWh in 2023, according to the Department of Energy. Faced alongside global sustainability demands, local industries are under pressure in meeting sustainability targets while maintaining high-performance business operations.

The MasterPacT MTZ Active addresses these challenges by:

  • Ensuring safety of maintenance operators against arc flash or sudden and intense bursts of electricity, which can cause serious occupational hazards, through the Energy Reduction Maintenance Setting (ERMS) built-in function.
  • Allowing quick and easy adjustment of protection settings to meet the system needs through the Intuitive Control Unit (Micrologic Trip Unit).
  • By scanning the QR code on the MasterPacT MTZ Active display window, users can quickly access outage root cause information, enabling safe and efficient power restoration. Additionally, it enables industries to monitor their energy consumption in real time.
  • Ensuring secure integration of advanced cybersecurity measures with the monitoring platforms through the new MicroLogic Trip Unit which features a passcode protection to prevent unauthorized adjustments to trip settings.

The MasterPacT MTZ Active is an air circuit breaker that enables real-time power monitoring and measurement to accelerate decarbonization among industries.

The MasterPacT MTZ Active is designed with sustainability in mind, enabling businesses to optimize energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint while maintaining high-performance standards. It is also certified as a Green Premium™ Product and has a circularity of over 30%, allowing industries to refurbish electrical systems rather than replace them and promoting resource conservation and sustainability.

This innovation underscores Schneider Electric’s vision to shift from a linear “take-make-waste” model to a circular economy, integrating circularity into its entire value chain, from product design and manufacturing to end-of-life management, ensuring business continuity and contributing to local economic growth.

“As industries undergo rapid digital transformation, the demand for better, longer-lasting solutions has never been stronger,” added Dedicatoria. “Circularity is no longer a choice but a must-do for industries seeking to minimize their waste and lessen their environmental impact.”

Schneider Electric, which was named one of the three worldwide Circularity Lighthouses by McKinsey and the World Economic Forum, has used creative circular practices to cut its carbon footprint by almost 513 million tons since 2017.

Globe encourages digital safety and responsible AI use while commemorating G DAY with a school tour through the Digital Thumbprint Program

Carlo Santos, Globe Senior Director for Analytics and Stakeholder Engagement, speaks during the DTP Session at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila

As part of the annual G DAY celebration, Globe conducted a school tour to expand its Digital Thumbprint Program (DTP) to five schools around the country, reaffirming its commitment to fostering digital citizenship and online safety.

More than 1,000 students attended the training sessions, which were hosted at the University of Southern Mindanao, Bintawan National High School in Nueva Vizcaya, STI Caloocan, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

The Digital Thumbprint Program is a series of capacity-building workshops organized by Globe that aim to empower students and communities by promoting responsible digital citizenship and raising awareness about online safety, digital discernment, cybersecurity, mental health and wellness, and the sustainable use of technology.

The need for such programs is urgent. The Philippines faces significant challenges with online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC). Exacerbated by high internet usage, poverty rates, and advanced digital technologies, the country ranked second globally in cyber tip reports on child sexual abuse, with nearly 2.8 million incidents recorded by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in 2022. The International Justice Mission estimates that one in 100 Filipino children has been trafficked for online exploitation.

Globe’s DTP initiative empowers students, teachers, and parents to proactively protect themselves and their communities from online risks, aligning with Globe’s mission to create a safer and more inclusive digital space. In 2023, Globe blocked over 404,730 malicious sites and links associated with child exploitation, illegal gambling, and online piracy — a 45% increase from the previous year — demonstrating its continued commitment to online safety.

In light of the increasing relevance of artificial intelligence (AI), Globe has expanded DTP to include discussions on AI ethics. The LinkedIn and Microsoft 2024 Annual Work Trend Index (WTI) study revealed that 71% of employers prefer candidates with AI skills, highlighting the need for students to understand and navigate AI responsibly.

The Globe team with students of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina at the recent DTP session held at the university.

At the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, 50 students from the College of Criminology participated in a session designed to provide them with skills to safeguard their communities from online dangers. This training supports their future roles in public safety, especially in combating cybercrime.

Students found the DTP Learning Hour helpful for raising awareness about online security. Key takeaways included avoiding scams by verifying emails, texts, and links, being cautious with public Wi-Fi, and thinking before clicking. They valued learning how to protect personal information and stay safe online.

Similarly, STI Caloocan welcomed 50 IT students, who, as part of their Foundation Day celebrations, learned about the importance of digital responsibility in their tech-driven careers.

Meanwhile, at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, 365 students from the College of Information Systems and Technology Management gained valuable insights about AI, helping them navigate the digital world and lead with integrity.

“Educating students on digital safety is essential as they prepare for a future where technology is deeply intertwined with everyday life,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Communications Officer.

“Through our Digital Thumbprint Program, we aim to empower the youth to use technology responsibly and ethically, ensuring they are equipped for the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

As part of its broader efforts, Globe also participated in the University of Southern Mindanao’s Pasiklaban 2024, enhancing festivities with a special #GDayEveryday celebration. Informative sessions on Telco 101, WiFi 101, and the DTP helped students gain practical knowledge about the digital world.

In another G Day highlight, Globe visited Bintawan National High School, nestled in the mountains of Villaverde, Nueva Vizcaya, as a gesture of appreciation for the students’ commitment to education. The visit reinforced Globe’s belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and dream big.

Globe added an interesting raffle with GFiber Prepaid contracts for the winners throughout the DTP sessions to further engage the students. These plans help the winners’ digital and academic endeavors by offering fiber-fast connectivity that is instantly deployed in their houses and has no lock-up time.

Go to the Globe website’s Digital Thumbprint Program DTP page to learn more about the program and its support of digital safety.

Celebrating Women for Fifty Years #TheBarbizonWay

Barbizon Celebrates Its Golden Year with a New Ambassador to Empower Women

Intimate clothing for women is essential for empowering, encouraging, and bolstering self-confidence. These items become more than just clothes; they become a part of every woman’s everyday life and her transition into femininity. Barbizon has dedicated itself for decades to offering intimates that honor and encourage women in all phases of life.

Barbizon, one of the Philippines’ top brands of intimate clothing, is now excited to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Miss CosmoWorld 2022 Meiji Cruz, the brand’s newest ambassador, is prepared to inspire and empower women in honor of this milestone.

Celebrating the New #BarbizonWoman

Meiji Aculana Cruz, widely known as Meiji Cruz, proudly joins Barbizon Intimate Apparel as its newest ambassador. Admired for her elegance and intelligence, Meiji is an inspiration to women across generations. A familiar face as a TV host and news anchor, she also holds the honor of being the first Filipina to win the Miss CosmoWorld pageant. Previously, she placed as second runner-up in the 2021 Bb. Pilipinas pageant. Now, as CEO and chairperson of Miss CosmoWorld Philippines, Meiji is on a mission to hone a new generation of women, empowering them to pursue their dreams and represent the world-class potential of Filipinas.

Her mission aligns perfectly with Barbizon’s commitment to uplifting and empowering women through its products, fostering confidence and self-expression in every woman who wears them.

“Being the new #BarbizonWoman is a true honor. Barbizon has a long history of celebrating and supporting women with intimates— not only underwear, but also innerwear, sleepwear, and even shapewear— tailored to the needs of every Filipina woman,” Meiji shared. “I’m excited to encourage women to embrace their confidence and beauty, just as I have experienced with Barbizon. Their products truly enhance how we feel about ourselves, empowering us to shine from within. ” she added.

Barbizon’s 50-Year Journey

In 1974, Barbizon began by selling bras, panties, stockings, and handkerchiefs—basic necessities for women. The goal was to provide women with options to meet their essential needs. Over the decades, the brand has evolved to address the changing needs of Filipina women, shifting from a focus on basic necessities to prioritizing quality and comfort in response to their growing intimate needs. This evolution started with bras and panties and eventually expanded to include shapewear, sleepwear, and accessories.

Expanding our product line has been one of our key strategies for staying competitive in this industry. Our goal is to pass on Barbizon from generation to generation, from mothers to teens and even little girls, ensuring that the brand will be their companion on every personal journey,” says Barbizon Marketing & E-commerce Manager Raiza Limpiada. “For fifty years, Barbizon has been more than just a brand—it’s a trusted ally that helps every Filipina discover the right intimates and encourages them on their paths, no matter what life brings.”

The opening of more than 130 department store sites around the country, including those at Robinsons, Metro, Gaisano, Landmark, Waltermart, KCC, and Lee, accelerated Barbizon’s growth. More Filipinas will have improved access thanks to this development, enabling them to embrace confidence, grace, and beauty from inside.

Barbizon may be found online at www.barbizon.com.ph and in all major department shops around the country. Visit @barbizon_ph on Instagram and @barbizon.ph on Facebook & TikTok for the most recent information regarding Barbizon’s 50th anniversary. Celebrate your journey #TheBarbizonWay.
