Overcoming the Digital Divide: Unconnected.Org and Eastern Communications Collaborate to Strengthen Connectivity in Ten Underprivileged Learning Communities

[From L to R:] Eastern Communications’ (EC) Chief Marketing and Experience Officer Jed Estanislao, EC Co-Coordinator Atty. Aileen Regio, EC Co-Coordinator Jaeson Evangelista, Unconnected.org Country General Manager Benjz Sevilla, and Technology and Operations Manager Jessieca Baris.

Ten geographically isolated and disadvantaged (GIDA) schools in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will receive critical internet connectivity thanks to a partnership between unconnected.org and Eastern Communications, a leading provider of ICT solutions and telecommunications.

Eastern will offer free internet access to students, instructors, and the local community in ten isolated locations as part of its mission to promote digital literacy and empower underserved communities. The first eight target areas will be in Dipolog, General Santos, Tuguegarao, Naga, Kalibo, Bais, Davao, and Zamboanga.

“We believe that access to the internet is no longer a privilege, but a basic need, especially for education and access to vital information,” said Jed Estanislao, Chief Marketing and Experience Officer of Eastern Communications. “Through this partnership with unconnected.org, not only can we help bridge the digital divide but also drive digital literacy, especially in far-flung areas.”

Eastern Communications inks partnership with unconnected.org through an official contract signing event.

The project officially commenced with a signing ceremony and joint planning session involving representatives from Eastern Communications and unconnected.org.

Providing internet access to remote areas is key for unconnected citizens to participate in the digital economy – this is especially significant for key educational institutions in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDA).

With reliable connectivity, students from the remote schools can supplement their classroom education with up-to-date online resources and explore more opportunities on the web.

Representatives from Eastern Communications and unconnected.org. hold an official contract signing event and joint planning session.

Beyond just connectivity, Eastern Communications and unconnected.org are committed to digital empowerment, with digital literacy programs planned for these schools.

“This initiative reflects Eastern’s continued commitment to nation-building. By providing not just connectivity but also the tools to use it responsibly and effectively, we are investing in the future of these communities,” added Estanislao.

Guinness World Records holder GOMO goes the distance with its run across Luzon

GOMO is preparing for something significant this summer. The innovative digital telco company is joining forces with Guinness World Records holder and women’s empowerment activist Natalie Dau for Project 1000, a multi-day ultra race across Luzon that promotes fitness, purpose, and pushing boundaries for a cause, in keeping with the spirit of UNSTPPBL.

In an effort to collect money for her chosen charities, Natalie has been tearing up Philippine roads on foot from April 21 to May 2. GOMO is following suit. The GOMO Fam is being invited by GOMO, their official telco partner, to run with purpose by contributing their GBs through “Mo Creds” on the GOMO PH app. GOMO users can exchange their No Expiry Data for donations in the following amounts: P10 for 1GB, P50 for 4GB, P100 for 8GB, and P200 for 15GB. These contributions directly benefit organizations like the Alon and Araw Club, the Save the Children Girls Impact Fund, and local school scholarships.

On top of that, GOMO is also providing No Expiry Data SIMs and GOMO Fiber connection to help her partner communities enjoy the convenience of mobile with the power of fiber-fast speed connectivity, another industry first from the digital telco brand as it introduced a true digital fixed-mobile convergence product in the country.

Natalie with GOMO’s Bianca Buita and Celine Larracas

“GOMO has always been about more than just data. Whether it’s owning your hustle, your passions, or by helping those in need, we’re here to help the GOMO Fam be truly unstoppable in their own way. Natalie & Project 1000 represent exactly what being UNSTPPBL means: breaking limits and moving with purpose. Through this initiative, we get to help bridge the digital gap for these communities so they can unlock the power to thrive—whether in school, in business, or at home,” said Dom Brucal, Head of GOMO PH.

On May 2, Natalie completes her mission with a special community run from Jollibee Sta. Cruz in Guiguinto, Bulacan to Jollibee Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Local runners, fitness advocates, and the GOMO Fam are invited to join her final stretch.

“Running has always been a tool for physical, mental, and emotional transformation. Being able to do what I love while raising awareness and empowering others, especially women, is what drives me. GOMO’s support has been incredible, and I’m honored to have them behind Project 1000,” shared Natalie.

By supporting purpose-driven movements like Project 1000, GOMO reinforces its commitment to what truly matters. It aims to inspire the youth to go beyond the scroll and use their gigabytes for good.

Breakout Asian bands from SXSW are featured in the official summary video released by Taiwan Beats Showcase

From Taipei to Texas, Taiwan’s vibrant soundscapes resonate across borders

The eagerly awaited recap video for Taiwan Beats Showcase, a flagship program that promotes Taiwan’s most vibrant musicians on the international scene, has been released. It offers an exhilarating visual journal that encapsulates the vitality, artistry, and cultural spirit of its exceptional representatives.

This year, six innovative performers are highlighted: Amazing Show, Enno Cheng, Each of them—?te (Whyte), TRASH, HSIEN CHING, and Andr—brings a distinct sound signature that captures the dynamic nature of Taiwanese modern music. Fans worldwide, particularly the insatiably curious music enthusiasts of the Philippines, are welcome to relive the excitement and energy of Taiwan’s display at SXSW 2025 through the summary.

Organized under the Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development (BAMID), Ministry of Culture, this year’s edition revolved around the theme, Connection, an ode to the universal language of music and its power to build bridges across cultures, communities, and industry frontiers. True to the collaborative ethos of SXSW, the special showcase functioned as an eclectic hub of cross-border creativity and musical dialogue.

The festivities began with a vibrant Day Party, headlined by Japanese rock band Enfants and Malaysian rapper Zamaera, which set the tone for an international exchange of styles and stories. Running parallel to the performances, the TAICCA Meet-Up forum welcomed global music executives and creatives to discuss the shifting dynamics for Asian artists navigating the North American music market.

As the sun set, the evening showcase unfolded with memorable performances: singer-songwriter HSIEN CHING opened with soul-stirring tracks from her latest album, “If Every Day Could Be Happy Happy, Who’d Want Sad, accompanied by producer Sōryo. Next came the enigmatic neo-soul artist Whyte (?te), whose boundary-pushing set resonated with the growing international presence.

Pop newcomer Andr brought a breath of fresh air to the lineup, earning a coveted slot at SXSW’s official International Night Showcase. She also shared the spotlight with Japan’s Luv and Paris Death Hilton, holding her own as a standout performer. Enno Cheng, a beloved voice in Taiwan’s indie music scene, returned to SXSW post-pandemic with new music from her upcoming album, Moon Phases. Her emotionally resonant performance reaffirmed her status as one of Taiwan’s most introspective and compelling singer-songwriters.

Alternative rock band TRASH ignited the stage with a high-octane set that could rival stadium performances, while The Amazing Show wrapped up the night with an otherworldly spectacle, featuring custom-built instruments and their iconic “cyber Taike” aesthetic.

Beyond SXSW, the enthusiasm continues:?The poignant duet with Japanese singer TENDRE, “Let Me Be Me,”  which ?te (Whyte) recently published, examines parent-child dynamics from a spiritual perspective. Meanwhile, with the premiere of a new music video for “Rarely Think of It” ,  Enno Cheng is continuing to broaden her artistic influence in South Korea. She will also be performing in Korea at the next Asian Pop Festival.

Schneider Electric surpasses its 2024 goal and begins the year with noteworthy environmental milestones

Leading energy management and automation digital transformation company Schneider Electric said that its Schneider Sustainability Impact (SSI) program received a 7.95 out of 10 rating in the first quarter of 2025, falling short of the 8.80/10 goal set for the year’s conclusion.

As it approaches the last year of its current SSI program, Schneider Electric, which Corporate Knights has named the world’s most sustainable firm, keeps making great progress toward its sustainability objectives. Along with its full-year financial results, the company just released information about its sustainability performance for the last quarter of 2024. The company’s 2024 SSI score exceeded the end-of-year goal of 7.40, coming in at 7.55 out of 10. Achieving the company’s objectives in all areas of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) requires tracking and reporting on the 11 worldwide commitments of its SSI on a quarterly basis.

SSI is the company’s framework for measuring sustainability progress, aligned with its business strategy. Performance is tracked against a 2020 baseline, with some programs using adjusted baselines due to COVID-19. SSI scores progress on a 10-point scale, where the 2025 target equals 10/10, and the base year is 3/10. Scores are calculated per key performance indicator, averaged equally (excluding Local Commitment), and externally audited annually. In 2024, SSI #8 received “reasonable” assurance.

“In 2024, Schneider Electric was recognized by TIME and Statista as the World’s Most Sustainable Company.  Earlier this year, we were honored to receive the same recognition from Corporate Knights as part of its Global  100 ranking – marking our second time topping this list and a first for any corporation. These remarkable  achievements, alongside other key ESG recognitions inspire us to reach even greater heights in 2025,” said Chris Leong, Chief Sustainability Officer at Schneider Electric. “As we enter the final year of our Sustainability Impact program, we are determined to continue transforming ambition into action. There’s still work ahead, but with the support of our extensive ecosystem, our people, and all our Impact Makers, we will succeed.”

In Q1 2025, Schneider Electric helped customers save and avoid nearly 700 million tonnes of CO₂ through its solutions. Since 2018, its energy-saving technologies have enabled 679 million tonnes in avoided emissions. It also achieved a 42% emissions cut from its top 1,000 suppliers through energy efficiency and renewables under the Zero Carbon Project.

Schneider Electric’s suppliers uphold decent work standards, with compliance rising from 21% in 2023 to 63% in 2024. Exceeding its SSI goal ahead of schedule, Schneider has provided clean electricity to 53.4 million people and trained 824,000+ individuals in energy management, nearing its 1 million target by 2025. Through its Youth Education & Entrepreneurship program, Schneider equips young people with skills for sustainable careers.

In addition to these accomplishments, for the 14th consecutive year, Schneider Electric has been included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class World Index, achieved a place on CDP’s A list, and earned a AAA rating from MSCI ESG. Its latest score from EcoVadis also secured a Platinum medal.

“At Schneider, we believe in strong partnerships with corporations, governments, local partners, and communities to uplift livelihoods, boost incomes, and expand access to education and reliable, clean energy,” added Leong. “I’m especially proud of our people’s relentless pursuit to turn ambition into action, from innovating solutions for environmental impact to giving back to our communities. Together, we’re making progress and sustainability a reality for all.”

See the Q4 and  Q1 2025 reports Schneider Electric, which include comprehensive progress dashboards, for more information about the company’s Sustainability Impact initiative.

Globe equips the upcoming generation of innovators, leaders, and change agents

Globe is actively supporting Filipino students by implementing programs that ignite passions, develop leadership abilities, and equip youth for a world that is changing more quickly than ever before.

Today’s students have a lot on their plate, including coursework, technology, social life, and self-discovery. Globe is aware that being a telecom in the modern day entails more than just sending out signals. It’s about joining a student on their path to finding their passion and constructing their future. Globe aims to assist students in discovering their hobbies and pursuing them without becoming overwhelmed by the crowd.

Students can participate in the Globe Community Builders Program in a variety of ways. Students can use the GlobeOne app’s Student Rewards to gain daily benefits and necessities. Students who have huge ideas can submit them on the Globe website through Globe Student Grants, and the most promising ones can collaborate with Globe to make their ideas a reality. Pupils can connect with mentors, propose their planned activities and initiatives, and become more involved in forming local communities. For individuals who are prepared to begin developing their professions early, internships are also offered.

One example of this in action happened in May when Globe organized the Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* led by the Marketing Youth Culture department. Student leaders from different high schools and universities were invited to special block screenings held in select Metro Manila, Nueva Ecija, Cagayan de Oro, and Davao cinemas. Apart from enjoying the movie, they were also given the opportunity to connect with Globe mentors and learn more about joining the Globe Community Builders Program, where they could take a more active role in leading projects, organizing events, and building their leadership skills.

“Just like the heroes we see on screen, every student has the potential to rise, lead, and make a difference. Through Globe Community Builders Program, Globe is here to champion their dreams and stand with them every step of the way,” said Andrew James Lim, Lead for Marketing Youth Culture at Globe.

Globe keeps going forward, reaffirming its position as a genuine partner for students, assisting them in discovering their voice, pursuing their interests, and creating a future they can be proud of. Japan’s Urban Sanctuaries, Ziplines, Toilet Museums, and Luxurious Hotels: Anticipate the Most Pleasant Unexpected

There are always new methods for Japan to surprise tourists. One minute you’re in Central Osaka, a city of parks, shopping centers, and excellent dining. Next, you’re enjoying the downtime life provides on the terraces of the Gate Hotel Fukuoka, exploring a museum of Japanese toilets in Aichi, or ziplining over fields after a local breakfast in Chiba. New establishments are popping up all throughout the nation’s several prefectures, providing a variety of lodging options and locations to explore. Here are four new locations that should be on your next itinerary if you’re searching for new places to captivate you.

In the heart of Osaka, Grand Green Osaka unfolds as a new kind of urban retreat, where city parks meet upscale dining, design-forward shopping, and slow moments of wellness. Days begin with local pastries or pour-over coffee on terrace cafes, followed by sushi omakase, open-kitchen steak dinners, or a stroll through the flagship stores. Below ground, the buzzing Time Out Market gathers top chefs to serve some of the best food across Kansai, alongside live cultural events and performances. Soak in a rooftop onsen, wind down in meditation rooms, or simply watch the city come alive in this new urban paradise.

In the forests of Chiba, the Farm Slow Mountain Narita offers a slower, more grounded kind of getaway. Accommodations include glamping tents, cottages, and cabins scattered across a spacious, tree-lined property.

Mornings start with fresh, local food, while the rest of the day is open for zipline rides, vegetable harvesting, or following an AR-powered trail through the woods. In the evening, communal barbecue dinners bring people together under the stars. Find beauty in the stillness of Farm Slow Mountain Narita, easily accessible via car from Tokyo, and via bus or car from Narita Airport.

The newest addition to the INAX MUSEUMS in Tokoname, Aichi, Toilet Museum celebrates Japan’s design-forward approach to one of life’s most overlooked essentials that the country does best. Exhibits walk you through the history of toilets in Japan, from early wooden bowls to the high-tech fixtures now famous around the world. It’s a clever, unexpectedly engaging stop that fits perfectly into the INAX MUSEUMS’ larger focus on ceramics, design, and everyday innovation. The museum is accessible by a 10-minute car ride from Chubu Centrair Airport, or a 40-minute limited express train ride from Meitetsu Nagoya Station.

The GATE HOTEL FUKUOKA by HULIC offers visitors to Fukuoka a refined and serene experience in the heart of the city. The hotel is located in the top levels of a brand-new business complex and has a direct connection to Tenjin Station. Anchor Grill Fukuoka, the hotel’s in-house restaurant, features local ingredients in every dish, and its top-floor lounge leads onto a breeze-filled patio with expansive views of the skyline. The décor of the guestrooms are modern and well-designed, while suites like THE GATE provide views of Hakata Bay.

Every one of these locations provides something a little different—an experience you weren’t even aware you were seeking. When combined, they demonstrate how Japan keeps evolving and delighting—not by adopting fads but by subtly increasing the standard.

Cosmobeauté Philippines 2025 is the first and only B2B trade show covering beauty, cosmetics, health and wellness, and personal care industries in the Philippines.

Photo shows from left: Ms. Nylah Rizza D. Bautista, Assistant Secretary and Supervising Head Competitiveness and Innovation Group (CIG) Department of Trade and Industry; and Ms. Rungphech Rose Chitanuwat, Country General Manager Informa Markets Philippines

Following the successful relaunch of Informa Markets Philippines’ well-known Philbeauty Expo under its new name, Cosmobeauté Philippines, in June 2024, the spotlight now turns to the country’s premier B2B beauty trade show, set to take place from June 4 to 6, 2025, at the World Trade Center Metro Manila in Pasay City.

Backed by Cosmoprof Asia—the leading B2B beauty event in the Asia-Pacific region—Cosmobeauté Philippines is poised to offer an even larger and more dynamic platform. It will bring together business professionals, manufacturers, suppliers, and key players from the beauty, personal care, and health and wellness industries across the Philippines.

My picture during the press conference

I’m truly thrilled to learn about this incredible event that not only empowers beauty businesses to thrive but also opens up greater opportunities for them to tap into the expanding market. Events like Cosmobeauté Philippines serve as a powerful catalyst for growth, innovation, and collaboration within the beauty industry. Like many others, I am genuinely excited about this trade show and what it represents—a dynamic future for our business landscape, driven by emerging beauty trends and cutting-edge advancements. It’s inspiring to see how innovation continues to reshape the industry, and I look forward to witnessing how these developments will elevate brands, support entrepreneurs, and transform consumer experiences in the years to come.

The event is expected to gather 250 exhibiting brands and companies from across 20 countries and bring together up to 7,000 visitors including numerous professionals and quality trade buyers.

Ms. Rungphech Rose Chitanuwat

I am excited for the opportunities that Cosmobeauté Philippines will bring as it redefines the beauty trade landscape in the Philippines. This is not just a beauty show or showcasing products, but it’s all about fostering meaningful connections, sharing innovations and empowering industry professionals,” said said Rungphech ‘Rose’ Chitanuwat, Country General Manager of Informa Markets Philippines.

The Future in the Philippines’ Beauty and Personal Care Industries

“Cosmobeauté Philippines is set to be a premier beauty event that would enhance your trade show experience. The goal is to contribute to the exponential growth of the promising beauty industry in the Philippines, one of the most active nations across Southeast Asia that gives high regards to the beauty sector,” she added.

The beauty and personal care industries in the Philippines reached an impressive USD 3.7 billion (approximately PHP 350.35 billion) in 2024, according to the IMARC Group. Projections indicate that this market could grow to USD 11.05 billion (around PHP 607.75 billion) in the coming years, highlighting the tremendous potential for business and innovation.

It is undeniable that the demand for beauty and skincare products is surging, driven by various factors such as increased consumer awareness, change in beauty preferences, and the growing influence of social media. Consumers are increasingly seeking high-quality, innovative solutions that cater to their personal needs, further fueling market expansion.

The Chamber of Cosmetics Industry of the Philippines, Inc. (CCIP) estimated the cosmetics industry to be worth about USD 4 billion (approximately PHP 220 billion) annually in 2022.

Government Support

Meanwhile, the Philippine government, particularly the Department of Trade and Industry, has reiterated its unwavering commitment to continuously support the billion-peso local beauty industry, particularly the micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) that are producing goods and services that contribute to the sector.

According to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Acting Secretary Cristine Roque, the agency is more focused to further create more avenues to MSMEs, so they could showcase their products and services to reach more discerning beauty, wellness, and personal care consumers in the Philippines, and probably in targeted markets in the Southeast Asian region.

This initiative opens doors for collaboration and innovation as the DTI seeks to participate in trade shows that spotlight businesses in the beauty sector. It highlights Cosmobeauté Philippines as a key platform for industry experts to exchange knowledge, explore business opportunities, and meet the increasing demand for beauty products and advancements. This partnership is expected to drive economic growth, especially in the beauty industry.
