onlyfriends the debut EP of Charlene Su

Finally the Pop-R&B songstress Charlene Su dropped her debut EP titled onlyfriends, with four songs that promise to be absolute bops. OnlyFans, onlyfriends came about through collaboration among friends, aside from subtly and cheekily referencing the popular, albeit raunchy online platform. Looking through the writers, you can see why. “To me, collaboration is the best part about music,” says Charlene, as she likes to think of songwriting as self-expression through shared human experience.

“We have all felt disappointment and the ache of heartbreak before, be it unrequited feelings for a crush or even within friendships. I think of this EP as my coping mechanism of sorts for that disappointment; it’s really just me whining and trying to get over my feelings in a very melodic, pop way.”

Charlene Su’s onlyfriends EP also includes the R&B jam “bitter baby,” whose laid-back beats and tropical-sounding production drip with sensual confidence, and the earlier released tracks “iwas4u” and “ilikered.”

The music video for “say it back” will be released on 25th August 2021 together with a live- streamed performance of the EP. The new song off Su’s new EP, features Universal Music Singapore’s up-and-coming singer-songwriter and producer YAØ.

About Charlene Su
Charlene has been writing songs and dreaming up bedroom bops since her teen years. With her candy-coated vocals sitting atop a spirited hybrid of modern pop, R&B and lo-fi, she has drawn audiences from all across Asia with her unfiltered, unadulterated charm.
With success in the cards both in a tech start-up career as well as with music, Charlene worked to balance both priorities over the past few years before deciding in 2021 to focus on her efforts on her passion for art.
Straying from the downtempo roots with which she first made her name, the Singaporean artist has turned her vocal prowess towards a series of intimate and infinitely catchy soundscapes, crafted with care for today’s digital music landscape. Her fresh, decidedly distinct, and vibrant pop-princess sound is bound to captivate audiences across the globe.
At the end of the day, Charlene hopes to make honest music that both entices and empowers. With lyrics that feel and beats that truly bop, she remains one to watch in this exciting new age of pop music.

With broad and engaging entertainment, Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino 2021 goes digital

This year, Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino (LMP) celebrates its second digital edition, with the goal of raising awareness and knowledge of OPM musicians from all over the globe through a variety of social media platforms. The weeklong festival will feature a wide range of music events, including concerts and gigs, open mic competitions, special launches, workshops, and a lecture series. From July 23 to August 1, a series of virtual events will be broadcast live on Facebook and KUMU. We had a zoom meeting with the special persons that lead this year’s Linggo Ng Musikang Pilipino 2021. It is so much fun and full of learning engaging in this kind of event. I felt proud and delighted because even in this time of pandemic we still had the chance to preserve and deliver our very own culture through this kind of entertainment. It will surely help the young ones to be more informed and be amazed by our music and culture.

Aside from a diverse set of homegrown talents performing online, LMP also partners with key and emerging stakeholders in the music industry such as AmiananPop, MinPop, Kadasig & Artist Ko, Soupstar Music, and Warner Music Philippines to ensure that artists with different backgrounds, and from different regions, are given equal opportunities to perform and engage with the community.

As Christian Bautista puts it, “We wanted there to be a balance between independent artists and mainstream/signed artists from all over the country and to try to cover as many styles and genres as possible. OPM already has a large roster of artists and we wanted to be able to feature as many as we can from the organization. We took into consideration their music and styles as well as the platforms that they are active in for the artists performing the LMP DigiGigs.”

Aside from the music shows and online concerts featuring the roster of PhilPop’s past champions and finalists, LMP is partnering with PETA for a special online showcase featuring the songs from Rak Of Aegis, as well as songwriting and learning opportunities that are spearheaded by the institution’s other partners, FILSCAP and PhilPop.

Even as the music industry is struggling to get back to its former glory and a lot of plans are derailed by the pandemic, LMP refuses to back down in its efforts to persevere and push through with mounting an online celebration that champions Filipino musicians not just from Metro Manila, but also from other parts of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, and the rest of the globe.

Hence, the tagline ‘Ituloy Ang Awitan’ was formed. In the words of LMP Project Manager Gab Cabangon, it was developed as part of a “desire to just challenge the situation that we are in.” He explains, “We wanted to highlight how Filipino Music is here to stay and will continue to be a part of our lives and a sense of hope despite the challenges in these trying times. The creation and support of Filipino music should never stop because our songs are able to reflect the story and the culture of the Filipino people.”

OPM Icon and OPM Board Member Noel Cabangon maintains that nothing can stop this important milestone in the history of Philippine music from happening. He reaffirms, “In an ideal situation, we would have wanted to have live shows and concerts so that fans of Filipino Music will get to have that real-life concert experience once again. But of course, there are a lot of considerations that we have to make. Our priority is to mount this festival safely and responsibly for everyone. For the time being, the social media platforms are a suitable alternative to allow artists to perform without the health risks brought about by the pandemic.”

LMP has been there since 2014 and has proven itself as the top yearly music festival of Filipino music, organized and produced by Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Noel Cabangon, Christian Bautista, Sandwich, 6cyclemind, Gracenote, Bayang Barrios, Cookie Chua, PhilPop Grand Champions reon and Chud Festejo, Miss Ramonne, Warner Music Philippines singers Ferdinand Aragon and Y ARA, and many more will lead this year’s edition.

Private enterprises like Max’s Restaurant, KUMU and KUMUSIKA, The Medical City, and Shopee are also supporting this event.

On the music video for Zack Tabudlo’s “Hindi Ko Kaya,” Paolo Avelino and Charlie Dizon reunite.

On the music video for Zack Tabudlo’s “Hindi Ko Kaya.” best actress Charlie Dizon and fourth EDDYS best actor Paolo Avelino reunite with renowned filmmaker Antoinette Jadaone.

They collaborated on Jadaone’s hit drama, Fan Girl, that launched in Japan at the 33rd Tokyo International Film Festival last year and swept the Metro Manila Film Festival 2020 prizes, namely Best Picture and Best Director, as well as acting nominations for both stars.

As experts in helming coming-of-age narratives that feature realistic portrayal of romantic relationships, Jadaone and her team Project 8, deliver a contemplative material that speaks as much to the mind as to the heart. The end result is a lovely but melancholic piece of work that not only complements the song’s lyrical foundations, but also arrives as a stand-alone achievement in filmmaking, partly because of its captivating storytelling and heartfelt sentimentality.

“It was such an honor working with another legend,” says Zack Tabudlo. “Direk Dan Villegas which is the director of Binibini and also her boyfriend, works with the same production team so the similarity of the environment is there.”

In the culture of Zack Tabudlo’s songs being lauded as contemporary anthems that represent this decade’s collective feelings through strong visual terms, “Hindi Ko Kaya” is destined to be another smash in the vein of the “Binibini” music video, which has managed to amass more than 20 million views on YouTube and was directed by Jadaone’s partner Dan Villegas. Zack Tabudlo’s “ Hindi Ko Kaya” music video is now available on YouTube.

About Zack Tabudlo
Zack Tabudlo is an alternative-pop RnB artist from Manila Philippines, signed under Island Records Philippines. He hit the ground running when he began his music career, becoming a finalist for reality talent show Talentadong Pinoy at the age of 10 but he is very well known as a contestant under Team Bamboo in The Voice Kids Season 1.
Among his influences are contemporary pop chart-toppers Charlie Puth, Harry Styles, and Island Records label-mate Shawn Mendes. But with all these influences, Zack approaches the genre of pop with his own distinct approach. His artistry can be characterized as a tasteful blend of R&B, soft rock, funk and vocally driven pop.
With a slew of catchy singles under his belt, all leading up to what’s looking to be a promising full-length in the future, the young musician is gaining momentum. His hustle may have been riding below the radar, but one can expect 2021 to be Zack’s year. To date, Zack’s latest single ‘Binibini’ has topped both the Spotify and YouTube trending charts for more than a month, and also breaking through Spotify Global Viral, several Spotify viral charts in Asia-Pacific countries including Canada and New Zealand – making Binibini one of the biggest songs of 2021 so far. The ASEAN Music Showcase Festival 2021 welcomes two new countries and will host a three-day virtual event in September

Despite the challenges created by the COVID-19 outbreak, the ASEAN Music Showcase Festival (AMS) is ready to come back for its second year with an effort to help regional artists stay in touch with their fan base and expose themselves to different prospects.

On September 11-12, 2021 (Saturday and Sunday), YouTube will host Southeast Asia’s first collaboration intra regional music showcase event. On the following day, September 13, 2021, virtual speed meetings intended at providing one-on-one networking chances between rising regional musicians and global music business executives will be hosted as a private event (Monday).

With the live music and entertainment industries being hit hard across the globe, AMS promises to offer an alternative but viable platform that connects global music networks to Southeast Asia, primarily the seven co-organizing countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand; with Cambodia and Vietnam further expanding this year’s programming with additional participating delegates and more up-and-coming and established local artists to the regional lineup.

AMS co-founder and Director of Educational, Governmental, and Overseas Partnership of Bangkok-based music company Fungjai, Piyapong ‘Py’ Muenprasertdee, shares that instead of waiting for the pandemic to end, the participating organizers of each country aim to help regional artists be proactive and put their music in front of potential talent buyers from all over the world. “Because of the pandemic, many showcase festivals around the world are going online, which means artists don’t need to spend money on travel and accommodation to join—and consequently, international music professionals and talent buyers need to hop on this virtual online landscape as well—opening the door of opportunity to more export-worthy artists.”

“We were conceived during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, so we weren’t able to organize the showcase festival physically and were naturally forced to organize it virtually,” Py explains. “However, we do hope to organize it physically and rotate the host country each year after the pandemic is over.”

AMS is co-organized by Fungjai, NYLON Thailand, and Bangkok Music City from Thailand; The Rest Is Noise PH from the Philippines; Steady State Records from Singapore; SRM from Indonesia; City Roars Festival from Malaysia; Baramey Production from Cambodia; and Monsoon Music Festival and Swan Zoo from Vietnam.

Malaysia’s Cultural Economy Development Agency (CENDANA), the Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB), and  TuneCore, a major digital music distribution, publishing, and licensing organization with over 150 premium collaborators across the world, are co-presenting this year’s event. Music Copyright (Thailand) Ltd. (MCT), as well as festival partners Golden Melody Awards & Festival and LUCfest in Taiwan, Global Toronto in Canada, and Live at Heart in Sweden, are all supporting AMS.

FROM JUNE 29, THE PHILIPPINES WILL BE AVAILABLE TO STREAM AND DOWNLOAD ON HAYU

Season 6 of Below Deck Mediterranean takes viewers to the crystal-clear seas of Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast and to hayu, which will be available for streaming and download on June 29.  Captain Sandy Yawn and Malia White are back for another exciting season (Bosun). This season, the team joins the 180-foot mega yacht “Lady Michelle” and heads to ibenik, Croatia’s oldest native town on the Adriatic Sea’s coasts, for an exciting new charter season. As a crew member’s grudges begin to make waves and interrupt the operation, characters clash and tension swiftly increases. A severe issue emerges before the opening charter, causing the staff to wonder if the season would be ended before it even begins, in a surprising franchise first.

While the boat’s dynamic is disrupted by extraordinary changes in the crew layout, one department head’s new management style produces tensions amongst the crew. In the middle of roommate problems and health scares, the staff must deal with one demanding charter group after another while maintaining the seven-star service that is expected in the Med. Long workdays between charters lead to late-night shenanigans, unexpected hook-ups, and one furious, over-the-top dispute in the hot tub, leaving the group at a crossroads.

Meet the Crew / Yachties:

Voyaging with a new team, Captain Sandy hopes for a return to calmer waters and is determined to hone the leadership skills of her department heads.

Malia White returns as Bosun with even more experience and is excited to manage a new group of deckhands. Newly single, she is ready to let loose and have fun with the crew but after a few mishaps with a green deckhand, she quickly realizes she will have her work cut out for her.

With over six years of experience in the yachting industry working on large super yachts and managing seven stews at once, new Chief Stew Katie Flood prides herself on her non-traditional attitude, attention to detail and unparalleled work ethic. A firm believer in equal opportunities, she strives to keep her interior team on an equal footing which does not bode well with her stews. When she clashes with one of her crewmates, she is left to make tough decisions that could impact the entire boat.

Previously serving the top one-percenters of the world, Chef Mathew Shea’s standards and expectations in the galley set the bar exceedingly high, but after a disastrous first dinner, he is put to the ultimate test to redeem himself in front of the guests and gain the trust back of his fellow yachties.

Former Miss Bahamas Lexi Wilson brings her own flair to the interior side and is not afraid to ruffle feathers with the crew. When frustrations with the yachties boil over, she finds herself in an unusual place with the group.

Hailing from North Wales with a sunny personality, Courtney Veale brings her immense experience with laundry to the interior side and surprises even herself when given more opportunity in front of the guests. After a wild outing with the group, she is shocked to discover she doesn’t remember the biggest moment of the night.

David Pascoe brings his wealth of knowledge to the deck team. When more than one yachtie catches his eye, he juggles work and play, leading to heartbreak.

Previously working as a tour coach driver all around Europe, Lloyd Spencer is determined to prove his skills on super yachts. When pressure starts to build, he finds himself questioning if he has made the right career choice.

Mzi “Zee” Dempers is excited to learn and follow in his yachtie brothers’ footsteps, but will he be able to adapt to the high demands of yachting and win the heart of his fellow yachtie?
