TIME TO START NOW AND AGE WELL

Do you want to Age Healthy? Well. Healthy Aging is the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables well being in older age. Functional ability is about having the capabilities that enables all people to be and do what they have reason to value and this includes a person’s ability to meet their basic needs; to learn, grow and make decisions; to be mobile; to build and maintain relationships; and to contribute to society. So aging is a topic that we would rather avoid rather than discuss head-on, as our latter years are often associated with the loss of independence, sickness, loneliness and social isolation. With Asia Pacific being one of the fastest aging regions in the world today, it’s only a matter of time that we, as individuals, have to look at aging in the eye, and consider with care, what we can do to live a longer and more fulfilling life into our golden years.

Want to Age Healthily? The Time to Start is Now by Dr. Zhen-Yu Chen, Herbalife Nutrition Advisory Board Member. By 2050, older persons aged 60 and above will make up 24 percent of the population in Asia. At the same time, the Korea population is aging faster than the rest of the world, and the country is on track to become the world’s most aged society by 2067. This means that many of those in their 20s and 30s today would also have moved into the ranks of the elderly by then as life expectancy continues to improve with better quality care.

To become older doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have a slew of medical conditions or poor quality of life. It involves change, both negative and positive, but you can enjoy aging if you understand what’s going on with your body and take steps to maintain your health. Then how could we put ourselves on the path towards healthy aging earlier on in life? According to Herbalife Nutrition’s 2018 Asia Pacific Healthy Aging Survey, 97 percent of Koreans believe that active steps can be taken to help them age healthily. 81 percent believe that by this can be achieved by making better nutrition choices, while 74 percent believe that this can be achieved by engaging in more regular physical activity.

While many of you may be still enjoying life in the pink of health now, it is never too early to take steps towards healthy aging as your actions have cumulative effects in the long run. To help you along, here are seven positive lifestyle habits to kick start your healthy aging journey.

#1: Keep a Healthy Digestive System

Our digestive tract contributes to our well-being by absorbing nutrients and eliminating waste. .Unfortunately, many people suffer from abdominaldiscomfort and other digestive issues, and that may increase as we age.

To maintain a healthy digestive system, be conscious of what you eat. Supportingyour digestive health with a variety of different kinds of dietary fiber can help.It also helps to take regular meals and probiotics to aid digestion.Probiotics have been shown to benefit the intestinal microbiota, which recentscience has shown to be important in digestive and overall health. Exercising and drink plenty of water can help lower your risk too.

#2: Prioritize Your Heart Health

Our heart is at the center of everything that gives our body life – from the transportation of oxygen to the success of the immune system, maintaining a healthy heart is vital for our well-being as we age.

Be good to your heart by eating a healthy diet, performing regular physical activityby engaging in cardio exercises at least three times a week, maintaining a healthy weight, and avoid smoking. It is important to keep your cardiovascular system in good shape as we age, and thereis no better time than the present to start heart healthy practices includingstaying active and supporting a healthy diet with supplements that arebeneficial to your heart.

#3: Take Good Care of Your Bones

Our bone mass peaks in our 30s and 40s, before we start to lose calcium and other minerals. This is especially true for women after menopause, who will experience a rapid decline in bone mass in their later years.

Maintain healthy bones early by incorporating strength-training or weight-bearing exercises into your routine. You should also up your calcium intake byconsuming high-calcium foods such as milk or soybeans, or a calcium supplement daily.

#4: Preserve Your Joints

While age-related factors contribute to degenerative changes in our joints, taking active steps to preserve our joints can help maintain our mobility functions and joint comfort as we age.

Maintain healthy joints by incorporating flexibility and stretching exercises into your daily routine in the morning. You can also consume a glucosamine supplement for added joint support.

#5: Protect Your Eyesight

One of the first signs of aging is the reduced ability to see things clearly up close – a condition called presbyopia. You may also find it difficult adjusting to glare or distinguishing some colors as you age.

One of the key nutrients responsible for healthy vision is lutein, which helps eye cells filter harmful ultraviolet (UV) light. Consume more lutein by incorporating foods such as spinach, kale, carrots or a lutein supplement into your diet. Protect your eyes from UV by wearing sunglasses and practice good eye habits by taking a break from your devices every 30 minutes.

#6: Exercise Regularly

As metabolism slows with age, maintaining a healthy weight becomes a persistent challenge. Regular exercise can help to increase our body’s metabolism, build muscle mass and burn more calories.

Build a regular exercise plan with at least 30 minutes of moderate-intense physical activity each day. Incorporate exercises that you enjoy and reward yourself when you achieve your fitness goals to keep you motivated. For the time-strapped individuals, try sneaking in short walks throughout your day, park further away from the office or use a standing workstation to avoid being seated all day.

#7: Keep Your Mind Active

Beyond preserving our physical health, maintaining our mental health is also vital in keeping dementia at bay while enabling a fulfilling life into our golden years.

Maintain an active mind by engaging in activities that you enjoy – spend time in nature, pursue a new hobby or take up music classes. It is also important to get enough sleep to improve focus, concentration and reduce stress.

No matter how young or old you are, it pays to start taking steps towards healthy aging now. By making simple changes to your lifestyle early with the goal of improving your long-term health, this will put you on the right track towards living a long, healthy and fulfilling life.

Tiger Biscuit Provides What Mom Needs To Build #Innerstrength in their Kids

Celebrity host Suzi Entrata-Abrera, Celebrity mom and Tiger Biscuit KOL Jolina Magdangal-Escueta, Dr. Mary Ann Prudencio of St. Luke’s Medical Center-BGC, Kristine Enriquez and Margaret Mercado

Believe it or not, good parenting, parenting styles and general child care are actually a relatively new phenomenon. The interest in parenting or what is the best mode to raise a child’ has come about in recent years.

The responsibility of raising healthy, happy, well-adjusted kids can sometimes feel overwhelming for parents. They’re bombarded with expert advice and societal expectations, yet often miss out on the informal support that parents half a century ago received from neighbors and extended family.

We often ask ourselves,“why is it so hard to parent today?” Was it always difficult?

Whatever the answers may be, there is no doubt that the standards of “good parenting” have changed dramatically.

Kids today have become more active than our generation. Kids going to school keep getting younger and younger that even 3-year-olders are already enrolling for Day Care, and Day Care also already changed from simple games and other fun activities to now having a curriculum and lesson plans to follow.

For parents, it might be difficult to let them go that early, but to go with the flow, they need to send them to school. Keeping them nourished while they are away from home has been one of their concerns but thanks to snack providers these days, children can already get good nutrients through their simple snacks they eat at school.

Tiger Biscuits by Mondelez International, the maker of Eden Cheese, is setting their record straight in making snacking right. It launched a campaign to help moms provide the important nutrients to their kids to keep them healthy even when they are away from home where full, cooked meals are served.

Through the movement  #InnerStrength, Tiger hopes to teach parents about the importance of inner strength in children and how to use it to overcome challenges in life as young as their kids are. Children are no exemptions to trials and it can be a bit difficult to make kids understand that at a young age, they can already experience hardships, most especially when they start interacting with the world by going to school. Tiger believes that the values of courage, humility, friendliness, resilience, and confidence will be their best armors to get through any challenges they’ll encounter as they grow.

Brand Manager of Tiger Biscuit from Mondelez Philippines Kristine Enriquez shares their company’s stand in this topic, saying:

“Today’s world presents many challenges that can break a child’s spirit. With inner strength, they will e able to withstand more effectively every obstacle, and thrive.”

While moms prepare their kids mentally and emotionally to face any kinds of trials, Ms. Enriquez believes their Tiger Biscuit can equip them with physical strength to face these challenges. She continued:

“Kids these days also have many activities in school and outside of school, through extra-curricular activities like sports lessons, art classes, among others. That’s why they need proper nutrition to face the challenges and seize the opportunities that come their way.”

Tiger Energy Biscuit isn’t unlike any biscuit. It is the only snack that contains 9 vitamins and 6 minerals which help provide the release of energy that children need for the day. Not only will moms love that it’s nutritious, it has a milky taste that kids will enjoy snacking on too!

We all know that kids need three nutritious meals a day, but are they getting nutritious snacks too? To support this campaign, actress, singer, and host Jolina Magdangal joins other moms at the event to share about her own struggles of being a mom who’s searching for the right snacks to give to her children. She shared at the event:

“Developing a child’s inner strength should start early. This is the time when parents help shape the overall well-being of their child.

It can be in the way you discipline them or as simple as the kind of food you serve them. I think I’m not alone when I say everything matters when it comes to our children.”

She added:

Celebrity Mom Jolina Magdangal-Escueta

“I want to make sure that my kids know that they have power over their mind, and whatever storms they go through, they can always reach deep down and find the inner strength to overcome them. I’m happy that Tiger sets things in motion to give importance to it.”

Healthy kids are the strongest kids. And when they are healthy, they gain focus to absorb their lessons and strength to enjoy physical activities. Proper nutrition has a big contribution too in a sound mind and inner strength.

Moms and kids can now rediscover nutritious snacking with the delicious taste of wheat and milk through Tiger Energy Biscuits. Tiger believes that “to create a brighter future for all, the world needs a new breed of resilient and confident children who can overcome challenges through inner strength.”

Ginebra Named Sanya Lopez as the New Island Girl 2020

SANYA LOPEZ, as the world’s leading gin brand’s 2020 Calendar Girl

Ginebra San Miguel obviously has a high rate quality of taste when it comes to choosing its calendar girls. For the year 2020, the leading gin brand in the country chose Sanya Lopez as its newest “Island Girl.”

Announced today, October 24. 2019 at the Novotel in Quezon City, Ginebra San Miguel revealed the Kapuso actress as its new calendar girl. She joins previous holders of the title like Miss Universe 2015 PiaWurtzbach (2019), Kim Domingo (2017), Arci Muñoz (2016), and Marian Rivera (2009 & 2014), among many other Filipina beauties.

Sanya said about the rare opportunity:

“It is an honor and a privilege to be chosen as Ginebra San Miguel’s 2020 Calendar Girl. I feel excited and nervous at the same time. To be part of Ginebra San Miguel’s history, to be entrusted with this role as brand ambassador and to be the newest addition to the Ginebra San Miguel family is definitely a huge blessing.”

Sanya is an actress and host based on Kapuso GMA network who started appearing on television in 2012 when late German “KuyaGerms” Moreno, GMA star builder. But it wasn’t until 2016 when she finally rose to stardom after being chosen to play the role of Hara Danaya of the 2016 television remake of Encantadia.Today, she is among the respected actresses in the said network and I especially admire her for her being accommodating.

Embracing her new role as Ginebra’s Island Girl, Sanya revealed that she prepared for her calendar shoot – where she worked with BJ Pascual – seriously by going on a no carbs diet. She shared:

“I only ate fish and chicken. I also did a lot of cardio workout, mostly running, Muay Thai and boxing.”

But the 23-year-old actress wasn’t chosen for her beauty and body alone. Ginebra San Miguel Inc.’s Marketing Manager, Ronald Molina said they saw exemplary characteristics in Sanya, professing virtues of courage, resiliency, optimism, and “never say die” spirit. These traits, according to Mr. Molina, are representations of their GSM brand’s identity as a premiere gin maker.

Ginebra has been around since 1834 and it’s older than the Republic of the Philippines. In its 185 years of existence, it has already become a part of the Philippine history, being a brand that survived countless wars and revolutions. Today, its taste is still the same as its first gin, manifesting true resilience and preservation of history.

Sanya said about being likened to the company’s true character:

“I consider the challenges and struggles that I went through in life as motivation to never give up in pursuing my dreams. It is my family that inspires me to be ‘ganadosabuhay.’”

As a part of her role as Ginebra San Miguel’s “Island Girl”, Sanya will be joining the “Ginuman Fest” tour, which is the company’s annual series of music festivals that brings together gin lovers around the country in a long event dubbed One Ginebra Nation.

During the event, Sanya even got her own Ginebra San Miguel cocktail called “Sanya’s Island Mix”, a concoction of pineapple, buko juice and gin.

Additionally, Ginebra unveiled four new calendar layouts that feature the brand’s lines of products including Ginebra San Miguel, GSM Blue, Primera light brandy, and Vino Kulafu, the leading Chinese wine brand.

Sanya Lopez with her GSM Family

GSMI is also popular for its other products including GSM Blue Light Gin, GSM Blue Mojito, GSM Blue Gin Pomelo, GSM Blue Margarita, GSM Premium Gin, Don Enrique Mixkila, Antonov Vodka, Vino Kulafu, Primera Light Brandy and Anejo Gold Rum . Chapter 2: The Empty Chair Project Show of Arts and Charity Event

The artist participated for the visual arts community revolving on the theme of chairs: Ciron Señeres and Marc Aran Reyes.

Where arts and heart collide, there’ll be one great charity event as a result.

Plain Bo Concept and Casa Bella chairs served as canvases to several contemporary artists in the country to come up with designer chairs that are about to sold to collect funds for a good cause. This stint is from the collaboration of the Visual Arts Helping Hands Foundation, Inc (VAHHFI) and the Metropolitan Museum of Manila through the art event called Chapter 2: The Empty Chair Project.

The biennial gathering of creative minds and generous individuals lists the museum as beneficiary and selects mental health advocacy groups like Anxiety and Depression Support Philippines, Silakbo, Buhay Movement, and #MentalHealthPh. More than that, it also seeks to support VAHHFI’s healthcare initiative for practicing visual artists and artist support practitioners like art critics, art professors, curators, and established gallery workers.

Photo shows from left: Exhibit curator Mr. Ricky Francisco, MET team head Ms. Tina Colayco, VAHHF’s Mr. Daniel Dela Cruz, Atty. Tonico Manahan, Ms. Trickie Lopa and Mr. Mike Tomacruz

This year’s gathering serves as the VAHHFI’s inaugural launch and coming out event, which follows the initial charity event in 2017. The previous exhibition aimed to raise funds primarily for visual artists’ welfare and hospitalization assistance, which resulted in the eventual creation of the foundation. Sculptor and main founding member Daniel Dela Cruz shared:

“Creating and registering the foundation took two years.

…it is the artists in service of other artists and those in the community.”

Chapter 2: The Empty Chair Project tackles the timely subject of Mental Health, and the idea that art can be a part of the healing process. It also aims to expand VAHHFI’s reach in generating awareness not only among the visual arts community but also among the general public. Furthermore, the organization hopes to provide collectors the chance to purchase unique artworks through collectible chairs and also give them the opportunity to help not just the artists but the professionals who support the artists in the visual art ecosystem.

To make this year’s event a reality, VAHHFI challenged some of the best artists in the visual arts scene to interpret, translate, and realize what an empty chair means. Additionally, the art concepts embody the message of “hope, kindness, and positivity to all.” Artists are also eager to encourage mental fitness as a part of one’s own overall well-being interpreted through their works.

Mr. Dela Cruz says about this goal:

“In as much as our foundation focuses on physical fitness, mental fitness should also be part of our regimen to protect and safeguard our overall well-being.

We spend time and energy exercising and going to the gym, but we also need to remember to take time to relax, de-stress, and rest our minds and our soul.  Art, and all creative endeavors, soothes the soul and nourishes it.”

Priced tag with a hefty price of a hundred thousand pesos, every one-of-a-kind masterpiece will generate funds for VAHH’s medical endowment funds. This embodies VAHHFI’s raison d’etre and philosophy: To give back to the visual arts community by providing funds to institutional partners and medical assistance to members of the visual arts community.

Some of the artists who contributed their time and talent for this charity event include Leo Abaya, Fruitjuice Factory Studio with Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan, Annie Cabigting, Valeria Cavestany, Charlie Co, Louie Cordero, Jayson Cortez, Marina Cruz, Kawayan de Guia, Antipas “Biboy” Delotavo, Dexter Fernandez, Dino Gabito, Nona Garcia, Guerrero “RG” Habulan, Gregory Halili, Riel Hilario, NiloIlarde, Pete Jimenez, Erwin Leaño, Raul Lebajo, Luis Lorenzana, Gene Paul Martin, Jason Montinola, Leeroy New, Rando Onia, Jim Orencio, Bernie Pacquing, LynyrdParas, Richard Quebral, Marc Aran Reyes, Jose Tence “Bogie” Ruiz, Stanley Ruiz, Luis Santos, Ciron Señeres, Rodel Tapaya, and MM Yu.

Since April 2018, the charity program has been providing assistance to artists and other art workers, like art writers, a museum director and a gallery owner who suffer ailments like thyroid cancer, recurrence of tumor, and kidney disease.

Chapter 2: The Empty Chair Project will run from November 12, 2019, Tuesday, to January 31, 2020, Friday. An opening reception on November 12 will happen at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Complex along Roxas Boulevard, Manila. So for those who want to own a unique art piece and extend help to those who need it, you can check details on how you can participate at metmuseum.ph. You can also call +632 708 7828 or email [email protected] for other information. Check out, too, VAHHFI’s website www.visualartshelpinghands.org for updates, news, and application information.

LBC Holds First Ever Star-Studded So Shop! Bazaar

I’m sure you’ve seen several people doing live selling on Facebook. It’s seemingly become the trend today to have a more personal interaction with shoppers even when the seller and the buyer are from different sides of the world. Plus, it’s a way to let people know that you are legit and show the quality of your items to give shoppers the confidence that they are buying the right product from the right person.

But LBC’s Social Sellers Bazaar collected all of these entrepreneurs together in an expo to let virtual sellers come to real contact with buyers.

The Philippines’ number 1 courier and logistics company held its first ever So Shop! Social Sellers Bazaar on October 5 at Function Room 4, SMX Convention Center, Mall of Asia, Pasay City. Over 100 entrepreneurs based online registered to set up their stalls which thousands of shoppers visited. Of course, there was an exciting program where industry speakers and influencers came to give their inspiring experiences and words of motivation.

As for business owners, it was a huge opportunity to add more people to their network and ensure their new customers with top-rate customer service through LBC’s Cash on Pick-up (COP) and Cash on Delivery (COD) services. For people who prefer to shop more conveniently online, these services of LBV are very useful. “With more and more Filipinos setting up their businesses online, we at LBC, believe that it’s high time to bring online businesses together, in one venue, and get to interact with their buyers live. So Shop! is our commitment to empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises in the country.”

And it’s just in time for the gift giving season!

Talks were also given which is one of the most interesting parts for me because the topics were about starting and growing businesses online. Social media gave a lot of people the opportunity to improve their lives through this online selling that almost every mom is now doing. From one live feed to another live feed, these entrepreneurs get so invigorated most especially when they see how much they’ve earned at the end of their live video session.

One show on television broadcasted recently revealed one online seller making 7-figure income from one live show. And that is from selling bags. So imagine how powerful social media could actually be. For that, LBC invited Facebook Philippines Head of Agency Liam Capati who discussed how to Facebook Ads work to the advantage of entrepreneurs.
