Vermosa Estate offers a promising future

Ayala Land, Vermosa and Red Cross officials during the Turnover Ceremony

The Vermosa in Imus and Dasmarinas, Cavite, is fully operational as further facilities and important support systems for its anticipated commercial and residential community go up one after the other this year.

Within the 752-hectare mixed-use development along Daang Hari Road, the 115 kV-34.5 kV substation of the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) is almost finished. Three transformer banks with a combined capacity of 249 megavolt amperes (MVA) will be housed in the fully dedicated substation to handle new and additional load applications in the region. Thus, Vermosa households and business owners can be sure to have ready and dependable power right away.

Ayala Land Inc. has given the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) a lot piece in Vermosa on which to erect its second headquarters in the province of Cavite. The first blood collection, testing, processing, and distribution facility in Cavite will be located in the Vermosa Red Cross headquarters. It would guarantee that healthy blood is readily available to Cavite residents and those living nearby.

“The new office will provide ample space for the department services offices of Blood, Disaster Management, Safety, Volunteer, Red Cross Youth, Health, and Welfare Services. Additionally, it will feature a training center and conference facility that will support the organization’s humanitarian efforts in the region,” PRC said.

“Vermosa is much more ready for emergency response because it has a 24/7 response team,” said Moses Aragones, Vermosa Project Development Manager. Other government institutions that are part of the Vermosa master plan include a Philippine National Police (PNP) and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) station office.

More community support features will go up in 2024. The community parish, the Church of St. Sebastian, will ground break in 2024, while the awaited Sports Play Park opens in the second quarter of 2024. Retail outlets, the new Ayala Mall Vermosa and a Landers Superstore will provide consumer perks to residents and guests. A transport terminal is part of the community support system.

By year end of 2023, a new residential district will be launched in the northern part of the estates, followed by a logistics facility in 2024. Vermosa is further expanding its commercial offerings with its latest phase of lots in Campus Town, opening up opportunities for locators to invest in property with fast-moving value appreciation.

“Imus City is one of the fastest growing cities in the province of Cavite in terms of population and industrialization. It has been recognized as one of the Most Competitive Cities in the Philippines and the Most Economically Dynamic component city in CALABARZON.”, said Vermosa Estate Head Cris Zuluaga.

“Vermosa is the gateway to all that dynamism in this area of Cavite and is itself the growth center in this part of the south. Easily accessible from Manila, Makati, Alabang and Tagaytay through various roadways and approaches such as SLEX via MCX, Cavitex, CALAX and the upcoming Cavite-Batangas Bypass Road, it opens its arms to residents, locators and visitors to experience suburban charm, first class amenities, robust business opportunities, and state-of-the-art facilities to pursue wellness and an active lifestyle,” she added.

Schoology: The Revolutionary Learning Environment of the New Normal

The education sector need direction on how pupils would continue learning despite restrictions at home during the COVID-19 pandemic’s onslaught. In an effort to find the ideal substitute for traditional classrooms, numerous digital learning management systems (LMS) were investigated. Among these, Schoology from Rex Education has gained popularity and emerged as one of the most beneficial and influential LMSs.

Schoology is a cloud-based LMS that helps educators and academic institutions create engaging content, teach lessons, and evaluate students’ performance, bringing learning and assessment together in one platform.

This digital tool enables users to utilize new and existing content, making it easy to create instructional materials. It contains rich shared resources, including user-generated lessons, assignments, and exams. Furthermore, its assessment tools aid teachers in more efficiently annotating and grading student responses. It also includes data and analytic functions for tracking student progress and identifying learning gaps.

LMS oversight is more complex than it appears. Apart from the country’s challenges with Internet connectivity, some people may need more technical expertise to use this kind of system. However, this is manageable with Schoology because it is easy to navigate, user-friendly, and has a broader reach.

Moreover, Schoology is the only LMS with a built-in collaboration feature, connecting everyone to the same network to improve communication and sharing in the classroom, throughout the institution, and even globally. It makes linking apps, materials, and systems easier, allowing any institution’s system or requirements to run and be monitored more seamlessly. Additionally, using its mobile application, any student or teacher can access resources, classes, assignments, and discussions no matter where they are.

As witnessed, especially in the last three years, learning management systems are becoming increasingly crucial in helping teachers and learners manage, plan, deliver, and track the learning process. Therefore, selecting the best system, such as Schoology, is vital to meet everyone’s needs and assist schools, teachers, and learners in achieving their goals.

Recently, the nation’s schools reopened, switching back to a face-to-face learning environment. In spite of this, it is reasonable to say that some pandemic innovations, like online education, are here to stay. Schoology is a tool to support learning methodologies, offer flexibility to accommodate more students, and strengthen the educational system rather than a substitute for actual classrooms.

Through iQor Qares, iQor offers financial assistance to its workers and communities in need

iQor, a managed services provider of technology-enabled BPO solutions and customer engagement services, is happy to announce that iQor Qares has been registered as a nonprofit charitable organization in the Philippines. One of iQor’s CSR programs, iQor Qares, aims to support iQor employees and their local communities by offering financial support to people dealing with tragic or life-altering situations.

Media presscon

“The recent registration of iQor Qares as a charitable nonprofit in the Philippines will expand our ability to help our employees, their families, and our local communities in need. We are inspired by the generosity of individuals and corporations that support iQor Qares’ commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others. We look forward to helping even more iQorians,” said Fleurette Navarro, iQor’s chief people officer and chair of iQor Qares in the Philippines.

Since 2019, iQor Qares has offered $150,000 in employee cases globally. These contributions have helped iQor employees deal with housing insecurity, recover from natural disasters, care for loved ones in need of medical attention and end-of-life care, and other life-altering situations. As we tour to their office we acquired knowledge and information about iQor, I was amazed at their convenience and fast hand delivery of help to the people. They are not just ordinary BPO businesses, but rather a helping hand that has a mission to make lives better.

Putting people first, supporting local communities

The creation of iQor Qares highlights iQor’s company value of the need to give back, as it encourages employees to support fellow iQorians and their communities. “At iQor, we want people to succeed in their careers as well as in other aspects of their lives. Part of that success comes from providing employees with opportunities to foster interpersonal connections and contribute to their communities. In this way, we are doing our part as Filipinos to keep our bayanihan spirit alive,” said James Down, senior director for operations.

“iQor Qares has provided assistance to 54 Filipino employees, and we have committed to help another 38 more people since registering as a nonprofit in April. More than 25% of iQor employees have pledged and donated to the Philippines, totaling 8,377 PH donors to date and this number is growing! In addition, the iQor Qares steering committee has visited our sites in Clark, Fairview, Dasmarinas, Sta. Rosa, Iloilo, Bacolod, Talisay, and Davao,” said Down.

For the past 25 years, iQor has been a steadfast presence in the Philippines, with 17 contact centers in Cavite, Davao, Iloilo, Laguna, Negros Occidental, Pampanga, and Quezon City. Thus, it’s only fitting that, through iQor Qares, iQor continues to actively support the communities where they operate whenever an urgent need arises. iQor Qares remains committed to expanding support in the communities where iQor employees live and work as well as in the surrounding areas.

iQor cultivates a culture that cares

iQor Qares has helped foster empathy and unity among colleagues. As James Down said, “Every iQorian can choose to give one-time or recurring contributions and 100% of the money raised for iQor Qares in the Philippines will help local employees, their family members, and their local communities in need of financial assistance due to life-altering or catastrophic events beyond their control. We can provide financial assistance to any iQorian for three such events during their tenure with us, with a maximum allocation of PHP100,000 per event (and this may be waived with approval). We value our team in the Philippines, which makes up about 80% of our total global operations.”

Through one-time and recurring contributions from iQor employees, quarterly fundraising events, auctions, and other activities, iQor Qares fosters a sense of community among coworkers and sustains its charity efforts.

“I’m proud to share that every iQorian cares for their colleagues, whether it’s a team member next to them at work or in their community. Even before iQor Qares was established, we have stories of people passing the hat for fellow iQorians, helping out in any ways they can to ease others’ financial burdens. With iQor Qares, we are able to expand our existing commitment to taking care of one another,” shared Michael Oliver Dela Pena, vice president for operations.

There is more pride in this art installation than initially seems

Closeup shows why no love should be hidden by blurs, crops, or pixels.

Did you notice the mural of a large heart at Market? Market! the 9th and 10th of June last weekend?

The enormous heart-shaped installation has a fuzzy image that seems to have been filtered out of view. It turns out that it is a part of Closeup’s newest promotion for Pride Month in 2023, and more sites for its appearance will be announced soon.

The Installation

If you look closely, you can see that each “pixel” is a little photo of a loving LGBTQIA+ couple. The entire piece turns out to be a compilation of fascinating and lovely local stories. The installation shows a celebration of love through the images, which would typically be downplayed or even suppressed in mainstream media, whether it be lovers kissing, holding hands, or simply becoming closer.

closeup is known to always celebrate love all year round; so it’s no surprise that their #FreeToLove Pride campaign honors different couples from the LGBTQIA+ community while encouraging more people to be more open to seeing all types of love.

A QR code on the installation also directs people to a link featuring the stories of couples who got closer with pride. Watch their stories here.

The installation features a more visible representation of love as it also offers a selfie opportunity for those passing by. Couples are encouraged to take a selfie together using the mirror and share it online in support of the LGBTQIA+ community and closeup’s campaign.

#FreeToLoveInAllWays

closeup also partnered with Colourette Cosmetics a local beauty brand that also believes that everyone is #FreeToLoveInAllWays. Both brands give people the confidence to get closer with their romantic interests and this is why closeup and Colourette Cosmetics launched a bundle promo available on Unilever’s official Shopee and Lazada.

Everybody is entitled to acceptance and affection for who they are. Due to closeup’s Antibacterial Zinc, which destroys 99.9% of bacteria, they highlight how getting closer is simpler when you have all-day AMA-ZINC fresh breath. This is because closeup is an ally brand and thinks that everyone should be #FreeToLove.

On June 16–17, stop by closeup’s #FreeToLove heart installation at the Fort Strip in BGC, and on June 24, join Metro Manila Pride March to support the LGBTQIA+ community and their right to visibility.

SIM registration is extended by McDonald’s Philippines for customers of Smart and TNT in a few shops

McDonald’s Philippines and PLDT telecom unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) have expanded the SIM Registration of Smart and TNT subscribers in a few McDonald’s locations across the nation to support the nation’s efforts to preserve data privacy.

By converting 35 specific McDonald’s locations with vacant party areas into temporary SIM Registration stations, McDonald’s and Smart played a crucial part in assisting the initial run of the nationwide SIM Registration.

McDonald’s Philippines makes more Filipinos accessible and convenient, especially mobile users who might require help registering their SIMs, by making its stores places for SIM Registration for Smart and TNT subscribers. Over 10,000 Smart and TNT members have successfully enrolled their SIMs in a few McDonald’s locations since the temporary sites’ April launch.

Participating McDonald’s Stores

As the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has extended the SIM Registration until July 25, 2023, to ensure that Filipinos will have more chances to prevent SIM deactivation, McDonald’s and Smart will continue assisting customers in participating McDonald’s Stores:

  • On July 3, 5, 10: Mart One, Capas, Calapan Roxas Drive, Calapan, Pili CamSur, Marymart Iloilo, Pavia, Kabankalan City, Robinson’s Place Iloilo, Pison Avenue, Cadiz, San Carlos, Araneta Bacolod, Tagum Highway, Limketkai, Valencia, Downtown Butuan, San Franz, Butuan Gaisano, and Gaisano Capital Surigao
  • On July 3, 5, 10, 12: Colon Osmena, Escario, Lapu Lapu City, South Coast, Carcar, Toledo, BQ MALL, Ozamis Highway, Koronadal, Guiwan, Gensan Highway, Cotabato, and Lagao Gensan.
  • On July 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24: Naga City Plaza and W Mall Bay City.

All Smart and TNT subscribers only need to bring a valid government ID to register at the nearest McDonald’s participating stores. Registration is free for all walk-in customers.

To further encourage SIM Registration, individuals who register in McDonald’s stores have a chance to win McDonald’s treats.

“With our continued commitment to nation-building, McDonald’s Philippines supports the government’s push for SIM registration by making it accessible to more Filipino communities. Just like how we turned our party areas into study halls (McClassroom) during the pandemic, we continue to maximize the use of our stores to cater to the evolving needs of the communities we’re in,” Oliver Rabatan, McDonald’s Philippines Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer.

Customers of Smart Prepaid and TNT, both new and old, may also go to PLDT and Smart Stores or use Smart’s SIM Registration page at https://www.smart.com.ph/simreg to register their SIM cards. In the meanwhile, Smart postpaid subscribers are regarded as registered under the SIM Registration Act using their current account information.

Collaboration between the Jollibee Group Foundation and DOST to Help Improve the Lives and Livelihoods of Smallholder Farmers

Partnership for Agro-Entrepreneurship. The MOU signing was held at the DOST-PCAARRD Innovation and Technology Center in the presence of (seated, from left): (place names in this sequence for easier read) JGF Executive Director Gisela Tiongson (seated, third from left); JGF Senior Program Manager Ma Laize Ar Cruzat (seated, fourth from left); DOST-PCAARRD Executive Director Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora (seated, second from left); and DOST Undersecretary Leah J. Buendia (seated, first from left). Behind them are (can we make a generic description to acknowledge the other people in the photo).

A Memorandum of Understanding was recently signed by the Department of Science and Technology’s Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) and Jollibee Group Foundation (JGF), the company’s social development arm. The agreement aims to strengthen both parties’ work on enhancing smallholder producers’ entrepreneurial capacity and connecting them to agriculture value chains.

“This partnership is an important milestone for farmer entrepreneurs. PCAARRD’s expertise in research and development in agriculture will surely help create access to more technologies that can enhance farmers’ livelihood to become more profitable,” said Gisela Tiongson, executive director of JGF.

Through the exchange of technology, access to knowledge, and the provision of tools to increase productivity, the partnership between DOST-PCAARRD and JGF seeks to support the advancement of sustainable agricultural practices. Additionally, it seeks to enhance R&D initiatives in order to provide scientific and technology-based solutions for agri-aqua businesses. For the purpose of ensuring the success of agro-enterprises, the program also incorporates networking and market links.

Of this, DOST-PCAARRD Executive Director Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora said, “We believe that this partnership for agro-entrepreneurship will strengthen PCAARRD’s efforts in addressing technology gaps to improve quality and productivity, as well as in building the capacities of farmer groups and partner LGUs to provide opportunities to tap institutional markets. We are also certain that this will pave the way to strengthen the implementation of projects and activities with the end goal of achieving JGF’s mission and PCAARRD’s mandates.”

Additionally, this program supports JGF’s Farmer Entrepreneurship Program (FEP), which empowers smallholder farmers and aids them in developing their technical and business acumen as well as their capacity for forming partnerships. FEP works with farmer cooperatives that supply the Jollibee Group and other markets using the Agro-Enterprise Clustering Approach.

More than 9,000 metric tons of veggies, worth more than P360 million in total sales, are provided to the company by 18 farmer organizations authorized by the Jollibee Group to date.

Expansion of Jollibee Group’s Foreign Franchised Brands is Strengthened

Store Openings that Break Records. The Jollibee Group established 23 Burger King locations in 2022, setting a Philippine record for the company’s restaurant openings in a calendar year.

As part of its growth strategies, the Jollibee Group is concentrating on improving the performance of its internationally franchised businesses in the Philippines.

“We aim to become the leading market developer of foreign restaurants brands in the country. By leveraging our brand portfolio to provide diverse offerings for various market segments at different price points, and strategically expanding our store network, Burger King, Yoshinoya, and Panda Express are expected to continuously contribute to the sustainable growth of our domestic business,” said Joseph Tanbuntiong, Jollibee Group Country Head for Philippine Business.

Store Openings

Burger King opened 23 outlets in 2022 as part of the firm’s expansion plans, which is a record for the company for the year. Additionally, it debuted its 125th landmark location in 2022, as well as five Bike ‘n Dine locations on Visayas Avenue and Shaw Wack-Wack in San Juan. In 2022, the Jollibee Group also relaunched Japan’s world-famous Beef Bowl Chain, Yoshinoya. This is its first ever Japanese food chain, making it a strong addition to the foreign franchised brands currently operated by the company. Yoshinoya serves a beefed-up menu in a newly redesigned contemporary and casual Japanese space headlined by their world-famous gyudon or beef bowl.

Successful Relaunch. The Jollibee Group successfully relaunched Yoshinoya in the Philippines with a refreshed store design and menu offering.

Last year, Yoshinoya opened four stores and renovated three existing stores. The Jollibee Group formed a 50-50 joint venture with YIPI—the Philippine subsidiary of Asia Yoshinoya International Sdn. Bhd. and Yoshinoya Holdings Co. Ltd. in June 2021. The said partnership established Yoshinoya Jollibee Foods, Inc., which operates the Yoshinoya stores in the country and plans to expand Yoshinoya’s store network to 50 stores in the long term.

Meanwhile, Panda Express opened ten stores last year, five of which were the first in its host cities—Robinsons Place Ermita in Manila, SM Southmall in Las Piñas, Betterliving in Parañaque, Shell SLT in Muntinlupa, and Greenhills in San Juan. In February 2023, Panda Express opened its first drive-thru restaurant in Asia with the launch of its Sumulong Highway branch. This new location in Marikina City also marks Panda Restaurant Group’s 100th international restaurant. Panda Restaurant Group, Inc. (PRG) and the Jollibee Group formed JBPX Foods, Inc., a joint venture in 2019 to bring the world’s largest American Chinese dining concept in the Philippines.

Milestone Opening. The first drive-thru store of Panda Express in Asia was opened by the Jollibee Group in Marikina City. This also marks the brand’s 100thinternational branch.

Exciting Product Offerings

The Jollibee Group’s thrust with its foreign franchised brands is to bring the authentic experience to Filipinos. Apart from this, the Jollibee Group also provides menu offerings that are either unique to Philippine market or among the best performing for these franchised brands in the region and the world.

On top of its iconic entree, the Original Orange Chicken®, Panda Express introduced Kung Pao Fish last year for the season of Lent. Its Beef Broccoli and Honey Walnut Shrimp are also among the best-selling dishes in the region. Meanwhile, Yoshinoya—with its signature beef bowl—also offered dishes that Filipino foodies can enjoy such as Tempura, Karaage, and desserts like Mochi Matcha Ice Cream and Coffee Jelly.

Burger King Philippines was also acknowledged as having one of the best-in-class launches in Asia for its new product Chicken King. Other exciting new products that guests enjoyed for a limited time last year were Cheese Bites, Plant-Based X-tra Long Chicken, Spicy Chicken King, Spicy Chicken Nuggets, and Truffle Whopper.

The Jollibee Group plans to add more Burger King, Yoshinoya, and Panda Express locations this year. The company’s objective to rank among the top five restaurant corporations in the globe includes these new shop openings.

“Our thrust is to bring the original experience of these popular brands to the Filipino people. I am confident that with the success of our foreign franchised brands, and with the continued support of their fans, Jollibee Group will succeed in achieving its long-term growth plans,” Tanbuntiong added.

The first direct selling company, Personal Collection, has won the Gold Asia Pacific Tambuli Award for Sustainability and Corporate Purpose

Another significant victory for the environment and the direct selling sector in the Philippines was recently achieved by Personal Collection Direct Selling, Inc.

The Filipino-owned business that led the transition from recyclable to biodegradable packaging for consumer goods became the first direct selling business to receive the gold award in the new Leaders for Sustainability and Corporate Purpose Division category of the Asia Pacific Tambuli Awards. At the renowned APAC Tambuli Awards held at Grand Hyatt Manila last June 6, 2023, Personal Collection was also the only direct selling business recognized amid prestigious corporate giants.

The Tambuli Awards, which were started in 2005, honor companies and brands that uphold their values and advance societal progress, like Personal Collection’s #GreenLifeGreatLife initiative.

The #GreenLifeGreatLife movement highlights Personal Collection’s unparalleled efforts in being the first Filipino-owned company that transitioned from recyclable packaging to biodegradable packaging for its consumer goods. It also emphasized the organization’s goal to care for the environment through CSR initiatives and awareness campaigns among stakeholders, including its numerous active dealers from more than 450 branches spread all over the Philippines.

Commitment to the future

First launched as a single business idea, Personal Collection has since grown to provide hundreds of thousands of Filipino dealers across the country with the opportunity to live a Great Life through earning opportunities and superior, value-for-money products, and services. Two years ago, the company embarked on a bigger journey to build a more sustainable future for Filipinos with the #GreenLifeGreatLife Movement that aims to reduce plastic waste in the environment.

The #GreenLifeGreatLife Movement has had other big wins since it was launched in June 2021. As a responsible sustainability leader, Personal Collection has transitioned more than 80% of its products to biodegradable packaging as of May 2023.

Through continuous collaboration with agencies such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the proactive participation of its dealers, Personal Collection was able to plant 55,400 trees and over 190,000 mangrove seedlings to help protect the country’s air quality, reduce carbon dioxide, and preserve ecosystems. Simultaneously, the company has collected 30,000 kilos of plastic and other types of wastes from coastlines and estuaries.

Through awareness programs, the corporation also reached more than 110 million individuals, taking the next step in educating communities about the need for environmental protection.
