GIVĒON releases “Rather Be,” a new single and music video

With the release of his new single and music video, “Rather Be.” which was directed by Loris Russier, multi-platinum seven-time GRAMMY® nominee GIVĒON begins his sophomore chapter.

“Rather Be” embodies GIVĒON’s best qualities: vulnerability, self-assurance, and an unwavering willingness to let his vocal range do the heavy lifting. The song features the bells and whistles that fans have grown to appreciate from the Long Beach native, from the horns strewn throughout its instrumental to the intimate and stylish style of its music video. It was produced by Sevn Thomas, Maneesh, Matthew Burnett, Jeff Gitty, and Jahaan Sweet. With the release of “Twenties,” the cathartic lead single from his new campaign, GIVĒON is gaining tremendous traction and putting his everything into every line.

The Russier-directed cut is an elegant montage of GIVĒON and his sleek troupe adorning airy spaces with a live rendition of the new song, as GIVĒON, the protagonist, tries to get comfortable with his love interest. Russier deftly plays with planes of space and symmetry to create a unique backdrop for the singer and his suit-clad crew.

“This song is a reflection on acceptance. The idea of seeing someone’s flaws and choosing to stay,” GIVĒON said about “Rather Be. “It’s about loving someone not for who they could be, but for who they are, and realizing that real connection isn’t about starting over, it’s about holding on.”

As fans eagerly anticipate his sophomore project, GIVĒON’s 2025 has already been one to remember. He celebrated the five-year anniversary of his breakout project, 2020’s TAKE TIME EP, with an intimate performance earlier this year in Los Angeles, attended by the likes of Epic Chairwoman Sylvia Rhone, Lena Waithe, Amerie and Jimmy Jam.

Shortly afterwards, “Twenties” notched a slot within the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot R&B Songs chart and went on to achieve a Top 20 position on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart. The song’s music video has already surpassed 12 million YouTube views and earned GIVĒON the fourth Hot 100 hit of his solo career.

Hunter Schafer and Tracee Ellis Ross were among the guests at Prada’s esteemed annual pre-Met Gala event earlier this month, where GIVĒON performed “Twenties” live. For his work with Teddy Swims on “Are You Even Real,” GIVĒON is vying for a 2025 BET Award in the category of “Best Collaboration” this summer.

The Dawn’s new track, “Sa’n Ka Pupunta,” strikes a deep, emotional chord

The pop-rock power ballad offers a lifeline for those who need help in times of despair and uncertainty

The Dawn, pioneers of Filipino alternative rock, return with a powerful single, “Sa’n Ka Pupunta,” which is currently available on Sony Music Entertainment. The legendary band, renowned for their constantly changing musical style and profound lyrics, produces an emotionally stirring hymn that addresses the silent struggles people confront in an unpredictable and frequently debilitating world.

Fundamentally, the song serves as a potent reminder that, despite feelings of hopelessness and uncertainty, there are individuals who will encourage you and assist you in discovering purpose in life, especially when it seems most elusive.

“it’s a song about uncertainties,” shares bassist and co-composer Bim Yance. “In today’s world, we’re all preoccupied with our struggles. It can feel like we’re alone. Sa’n Ka Pupunta is a reminder that someone out there is willing to listen and help. You just need to let them in.”

“Sa’n Ka Pupunta” marks yet another creative peak for the legendary band composed of Jett Pagan on lead vocals, guitars, and keyboards; Francis Reyes on guitars, backing vocals, and keyboards; Rommel Sanchez on guitars; JB Leonor on drums; and Bim Yance on bass. The track is intimate and explosive at once, an introspective power ballad that pleads for openness and understanding in times of emotional crossroads.

Initially composed by Yance, the track evolved through The Dawn’s distinctive collaborative process. The original demo, both sonically and lyrically, carried the seeds of what would become a poignant anthem. As the rest of the band joined in, the song took on a more expansive narrative.

“It began as a message to someone discouraged from continuing their life,” says frontman Jett Pangan. “But as all contributed, it grew into a broader reflection on relationships and how we slowly drift apart if we don’t speak up. It’s about desperation—but the kind that comes from love.”

Musically, “Sa’n Ka Pupunta” balances a raw, gritty energy with sonic restraint. Anchored in shimmering guitar layers, a propulsive shuffle rhythm, and a spacious mix, the arrangements amplify the emotional tension at the song’s core.

“Bim designed the intro and choruses to be louder and punchy, and the verses gentler,” explains Francis Reyes. “We made the first verses sound more open, leaving a lot of space for Jett’s voice— and hence, the initial lyrics that set up the narrative— to be heard and understood. My interpretation of the lyrics is there’s sadness and frustration there. The loud choruses, in my mind, allude to the frustration of ‘Please tell me what’s on your mind, because I’m here to listen.’ The choruses sound angry, but it’s more of desperation or a plea from someone who is trying to understand and help.”

The production draws subtle influence from ‘90s rock stylings of a power ballad while remaining rooted in The Dawn’s unmistakable sound. As Reyes puts it, the band worked to “Dawn-ify” the track, making something inherently theirs while letting new textures surface. He adds, “Jett suggested editing out a couple of bits from Bim’s original demo so the tune flows better overall. I think it was JB himself who suggested a shuffle-type thing for his drum parts to give the tune a bit of propulsiveness.”

Providing additional context, Rommel Sanchez shares that the band took cues from ‘90s bands and producers without making the references patently obvious. “It’s like, ‘what would [insert 90’s producer here]’ do at all times during the tracking process.”

The song, which has already had a great reception at previous live performances, is sure to strike a chord with both new and devoted band fans.

“I hope it brings solace to people,” Yance says. “That music can remind us to reach out and be there for each other even in times of frustration and silence.”

Sa’n Ka Pupunta by The Dawn is currently available on all digital music platforms across the globe through Sony Music Entertainment.

For their new track “Pieces,” Filipino singer-songwriter Peej collaborates with well-known Indian musician Dhruv Visvanath

An Indo-Filipino cross-border collaboration explores connection and loneliness in the digital age

Together, Filipino indie-folk sensation Peej and well-known Indian singer-songwriter and producer Dhruv Visvanath have released their poignant new single, “Pieces” which will be available everywhere on Friday, May 16, 2025.

The song, which was inspired by a chance encounter at Singapore’s All That Matters music convention in 2024, examines the basic human desire for connection in a world growing more and more isolated.

“At its core, Pieces is about drifting—emotionally and spiritually—and trying to find your way back to something or someone,” shares Dhruv Visvanath. “This past year, I’ve been pushing myself to write differently, explore new places, and seek deeper connections. When I met Peej in Singapore, we clicked instantly–we even swapped t-shirts! Pieces began as a quiet, introspective idea, like drifting alone at sea, longing for connection. The moment I created the demo, I knew Peej was the missing piece. He brought a rare sincerity to the song–and, of course, his stunning saxophone.”

Peej, whose emotional songwriting and saxophone work have made him a standout in the Filipino indie scene, echoed the enthusiasm.

“We met during one of our performance days and kept bumping into each other during the festival,” Peej recalls. “We gave each other high praises after each of our performances. It was obvious we had so many things in common, including our positive, friendly demeanor and our passion for music. So when Dhruv messaged me a few months later to collaborate, I jumped at the chance.”

Crafted entirely through remote collaboration, with Dhruv working from his bedroom studio in New Delhi and Peej from Manila, “Pieces” offers an intimate sonic experience, blending tender lyricism, atmospheric guitar work, and haunting saxophone lines. Produced and penned by Dhruv Visvanath, with songwriting credits from Peej, the eclectic pop track highlights acoustic textures with emotional clarity.

“When Dhruv sent me the first raw voice note, I was immediately excited. I could already imagine how it would come together since sad songs were right up my alley. The process of writing my parts was pretty effortless because the song already had such a strong foundation.”

Thematically, Pieces dives into modern-day loneliness and the persistent desire for connection.  When Dhruv sent the first verse and chorus to Peej, the Filipino indie artist assumed that his musician-friend was going through a difficult time in life. Only later did Peej found out that the song was about Dhruv wanting to tear himself into pieces to reinvent himself. “When I wrote my parts, suddenly Pieces became a story about loneliness and the desire for connection after a lover has left. Although it wasn’t what Dhruv initially had in mind, we’re both extremely proud of what we created.”

The long-distance nature of their collaboration shaped the final sound in surprising ways.
“As two solo artists who find comfort in creating music alone, the distance gave us space to put in our individual voices and styles without judgment,” Peej notes. “It allowed us the freedom to deliver our parts in our own unique way.”

Above all, “Pieces” is a celebration of openness, honesty, and the kind of cross-border artistic connection. Peej muses, “Collaborating with artists you admire and respect can lead to a piece of art you didn’t know you were capable of creating.”

One thing is clear from the fact that Pieces is already available on popular digital platforms worldwide: this partnership is more than just music. It serves as a reminder that the urge for real connection endures despite the volatility of today’s society.

Highlighting its first sunscreen, Dermorepubliq offers a Boracay trip giveaway and a TikTok challenge

DermoSun Mattifying Sunscreen leads the brand’s first summer campaign, encouraging Filipinos to embrace fun, fearless sunny days with Dermorepubliq

DermoSun Mattifying Sunscreen

In a summer campaign that promotes everyday sun protection, domestic skincare company Dermorepubliq is showcasing its first-ever sunscreen, the DermoSun Mattifying Sunscreen, as the nation struggles with record-breaking heat index values that can reach 47°C in certain places. DermoSun, which was created in response to the rising need for sun protection products that are appropriate for Filipino skin and tropical climates, is making a big splash this season with a multi-platform campaign that includes a TikTok challenge and well-placed billboards throughout Metro Manila.

With this launch, the brand formally enters the sun care market and begins a broader campaign to normalize the use of sunscreen as part of daily skincare routines that go beyond seasonal use. The DermoSun Mattifying Sunscreen is perfect for everyday use in the country’s environment because it is lightweight, matte, and blends in perfectly with the skin without leaving a white cast. It is developed with SPF 30 broad-spectrum protection.

Infused with Centella Asiatica to help soothe irritated skin, Jeju Aloe to rehydrate, and Niacinamide to regulate sebum and improve skin texture, making it well-suited for oily or combination skin in humid environments. Priced at P499, the product is available through TikTok Shop, Shopee, Lazada, and www.dermorepubliq.com, as well as at Dermorepubliq kiosks in SM Fairview, SM Masinag, SM Tanza, SM Sta. Mesa, and Riverbanks Center.

“Suncreen was one of the most requested products by our users, and we developed DermoSun to reflect what they value — daily protection, comfort in our climate, and a formula that fits seamlessly into their routines,” said Keith Sta. Barbara, Founder and President of Dermorepubliq. “This campaign is our way of making sun protection more approachable and part of the lifestyle, not a chore.”

To help normalize daily sunscreen use among younger consumers, the brand recently launched the DermoSun 2-Finger Challenge, a TikTok-led initiative encouraging users to post short videos demonstrating proper sunscreen application using the dermatologist-recommended two-finger method. The campaign taps into the brand’s growing creator community, inviting users to share educational or creative sunscreen routines featuring DermoSun in a yellow basket. To join, participants must tag @dermorepubliq, use the hashtags #DoItWithDermo and #Dermo2FingerChallenge, and follow the brand on all platforms. Multiple entries are allowed.

The TikTok challenge runs until May 30, 2025, with one winner receiving an all-expense-paid trip for two to Boracay, to be announced on June 10. Submissions will be judged based on creativity and relatability (60%) and accuracy of application (40%).

DermoSun Mattifying Sunscreen – Billboard

To drive broader awareness for the campaign, Dermorepubliq rolled out billboard placements across key locations in Metro Manila with a static installation along C5 Eastwood and LED displays at EDSA Guadalupe and C5 Pasig.  Featuring visuals that spotlight DermoSun Mattifying Sunscreen’s lightweight, grease-free formula, the outdoor campaign reinforces the brand’s message that sun protection can be both practical and seamlessly woven into real-life routines.

Dermorepubliq, a multi-platform company with a close relationship to its online community, gained popularity through TikTok Shop and is now well-known for its science-backed and easily accessible skincare products. The formal introduction of DermoSun signifies the company’s foray into the sun care market and reaffirms its position as a domestic skincare brand dedicated to Filipino customers. The campaign aims to change behaviors by utilizing content, producers, and education to establish regular sun protection as the standard.

In 2024, Filipinos used digital lending apps for 1.54 billion seconds

In 2024, people in the Philippines used non-bank digital lending apps for around 1.54 billion seconds, or 49 years, according to a new Digido report.

An analysis of 47 digital lending applications that are legally permitted to operate in the nation, including Digido, showed that platforms that specialize in personal loans continued to account for the majority of activity (76.4%), followed by “buy now, pay later” (BNPL) services (21.4%) and installment loans (2.2%).

Compared to 2023, the applications’ activity increased by sixteen percent.

On average, active users of digital lending apps spent approximately 12 minutes and 14 seconds per month in 2024 while the average duration of a user’s session was 58 seconds.

The personal loans segment was also the primary driver of the total number of application downloads, which increased by 42.4% year-on-year (YoY) from 89.66 to 127.69 million units. Unique users increased by 43% YoY from 47.46 to 67.84 million people, while the number of active users increased by 53% YoY from 7.7 to 11.78 million people.

Digido business development manager Rose Arreco issued the following comments: “Non-bank, digital-forward lenders maintain their current market growth rates despite the already high level of fintech penetration and saturation of offerings. Personal loans, in particular, remain a key driver of this industry due to its flexibility, ease of access, and competitive rates.

“The growth in downloads, active and unique users, as well as the increase in total time spent in applications indicate continued consumer interest and high demand for such financial instruments while illustrating the industry’s role in promoting financial inclusion and continuing towards increased access to formal credit.

“Non-bank, digital-forward lenders maintain their current market growth rates despite the already high level of fintech penetration and saturation of offerings,” said Rose Arreco, business development manager at Digido. Because of their affordable rates, ease of access, and flexibility, personal loans in particular continue to be a major force in this sector.

Philippines’ Growing Beauty, Personal Care, and Wellness Market

The beauty, personal care, and wellness market in the Philippines is poised for significant growth, driven by a combination of online and international influences, evolving consumer preferences, and demographic trends.

According to Statista, the beauty and personal care market is projected to generate approximately $6.79 billion in revenue by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 2.86% from 2025 to 2030. This growth reflects the increasing demand for innovative beauty products and services, as consumers become more discerning and seek out high-quality options.

Additionally, the wellness economy in the Philippines is thriving, with a recorded value of $3.28 billion in 2024 and a projected CAGR of 29.66% from 2025 to 2030, as reported by Grand View Research. This remarkable expansion is largely attributed to rising interest in personal wellness and self-care, alongside a growing demand for medical procedures, including cosmetic surgery. The affordability and high-quality standards of these services make them particularly appealing to both investors and consumers.

The aesthetic industry is experiencing substantial growth, driven by several key factors. The demand for non-surgical procedures is on the rise, fueled by advancements in technology that enable less invasive treatments with minimal downtime.

Changing beauty standards, increasingly influenced by social media, have reshaped consumer perceptions and preferences, leading to a greater acceptance of aesthetic enhancements. Additionally, the proliferation of aesthetic clinics across the country has made these services more accessible to a wider audience.

Additionally, as more people look for ways to maintain a young appearance and improve their general well-being, an aging population is driving up demand for cosmetic procedures. The Philippines’ aesthetic business is well-positioned for future growth because to the convergence of demographic trends, changing social norms, and technology innovation.

The World Trade Center Manila will host the Cosmobeauté Philippines 2025: The Philippines’ Premier Beauty Trade Show from June 4–6, 2025. This is why Livestock Philippines 2025 and Aquaculture Philippines 2025 are very important events that Filipinos and local businesses should watch out for,” said Rungphech ‘Rose’ Chitanuwat, Country General Manager of Informa Markets in the Philippines.

The Department of Agriculture strongly supports and hosts this year’s event, with their guidance focusing on the theme of Empowering Agri-Fishery Through Modern Technology and Innovation. This theme aligns closely with the agency’s mandate to highlight the significance of innovation and modernization in enhancing productivity and efficiency in agricultural production.

Challenging times for the livestock sector

The Philippine livestock production grew 6.37 percent in 2024 to 2.17 million metric tons from 2.05 million metric tons in 2023, based on data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). As usual, poultry production contributed much to the growth, with the sector posting a 6.6 percent increase in production to 2.94 million metric tons from 2.76 million metric tons in 2023.

The sector was affected by the impact of La Nina weather phenomenon on livestock producers across the country in the first half of 2024. Much of the growth was accumulated during the second half. Hog production recorded decrements due to the spread of swine flu during the period, while carabao and cattle production slightly increased.

To date, the sector is looking forward to the impending enactment of the Animal Industry Development and Competitiveness Act, a legislation that is set to bolster the local livestock sector. The bill has passed third reading at the House of Representatives and is expected to be among those that will be prioritized after the midterm elections. Once approved and enacted, it will create an Animal Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (ANICEF) that would earmark a ₱20 billion fund for the next 10 years to rationalize and strengthen the Bureau of Animal Industry.

Promising aquaculture subsector

Aquaculture is among the brightest prospects in the country’s agriculture industry and fisheries sector. Its potential to contribute to the national economy and to the uplifting of people’s welfare could not be undermined. Data from the PSA indicate that aquaculture currently accounts for over half of the annual fisheries production in the country. Seaweed accounts for about 70 percent of the local aquaculture production.

The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) estimated the local aquaculture production at 804,000 metric tons in 2022, accounting for about 31 percent of the country’s total fisheries production. FAO projects the production to reach 965,000 metric tons by 2032, which would account for 34 percent of the overall fisheries production.

Livestock Philippines and Aquaculture Philippines 2025

Aside from the usual trade exhibitions and conferences focused on both sectors, the co-located events of the Livestock Philippines 2025 and Aquaculture Philippines 2025 will hold the Livestock Philippines Recognition 2025, which is designed to recognize companies, institutions, cooperatives, organizations, and even individuals that have demonstrated exceptional work to help boost the country’s agricultural industry. The event will feature a variety of activities designed to foster knowledge-sharing and provide effective solutions for the industry. One key highlight is the Livestock Conference, which will showcase insights from invited industry experts spanning the livestock, poultry, dairy, and ruminant sectors. This conference aims to address current challenges and innovations, encouraging collaboration and the exchange of best practices among participants.

The events will mark their first Antimicrobial Resistance Forum that is set to spark important discussions surrounding animal health and the critical issue of antimicrobial resistance. By bringing together experts and stakeholders, the forum will explore strategies for addressing this growing concern, ultimately enhancing animal welfare and public health.

On the second day of the event, there will be an Aquaculture Conference devoted to the aquaculture industry. The purpose of this conference is to give fishermen and industry participants a forum to talk about the latest developments, difficulties, and prospects in the aquaculture sector. Additionally, exhibitors will highlight cutting-edge innovations that help boost productivity and efficiency during a Technical Seminar that will feature novel technology and solutions. The Sustainability Forum, which will feature material related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN, is another important element.
