The Experiencing Symptoms of Neuropathy towards Filipinos in Metro Manila

Did you know, 99% of Filipinos experiencing Pamamanhid, tusok-tusok, and pangangalay. Filipinos in Metro Manila have felt one of the three symptoms of nerve damage or neuropathy.

The study conducted by P&G Health startling findings from a 2020 consumer study for among 240 Filipinos in Metro Manila age range from 35 to 65 years old on the symptoms of neuropathy. And resulted that seven out of ten respondents have no idea about this neuropathy and much more aware of the other common term, nerve damage.

Neuropathy is a clinical condition where there is damage to the nerves caused by deficiency of B vitamins. It is most common among those who perform repetitive movements for a prolonged period, and put stress on their arms, hands, legs, or feet. It is also frequent among those with diabetes and other degenerative diseases. Genetics and lifestyle could be predisposing factors.

Neuropathy among Filipinos

Majority of respondents started experiencing the symptoms of neuropathy between 36 to 40 years old. Around 94% felt pangangalay or muscle weakness, 90% had that tusok-tusok sensation or tingling, 94% had pamamanhid or numbness on their hands and feet, while 85% experienced all three.

Most of the respondents who had their fair share of the symptoms dismissed these, thinking that these were caused just by tiredness or being overworked.

To relieve their symptoms, most of them did stretching exercises, went for a massage, or took a pill, usually painkillers. Some of them even explored home remedies such as drinking herbal teas. However, 90% of the respondents said that none of what they tried stopped the recurrence of symptoms. There were also those who tried generic B-vitamins, but only 51% said it helped in resolving the discomforts they feel.

Without relief for their symptoms, the respondents had difficulty doing tasks at home, simple chores became much harder to do, and their performance at work were even affected.

This emphasizes the importance of early detection and diagnosis of neuropathy. Under normal conditions, nerves repair naturally through nerve regeneration (Hoke, 2011).  However, this is only possible if less than 50% of the fibers of the nerve tissue is damaged.  Otherwise, this is called “point of no return” by experts.

 Dealing with Nerve Damage Symptoms

Thankfully, neuropathy or nerve damage symptoms can be handled by consulting medical experts and knowing which products work best in stopping the recurrence of the discomforts it brings. In the study conducted, respondents were also asked if they have tried Vitamins B1+B6+B12 (Neurobion), and 76% of those who have tried using it said that it was helpful in resolving the symptoms they experience.

Clinically proven Vitamins B1+B6+B12 (Neurobion) helps relieve nerve damage and regenerate the nerves. Through the years, Vitamins B1+B6+B12 (Neurobion) has been promoting nerve care awareness among Filipinos. Its goal is to help Filipinos protect their nerves and have the #NerveToServe so they can continue caring for themselves and for others.

Remember, nerve damage can be properly dealt with if you take action on an early onset. Give your nerves the care that they need so that you can do the things you need to do and achieve your goals.

Keep your nerves in check with Vitamins B1+B6+B12 (Neurobion)! For updates, visit the brand’s official Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/NeurobionPhilippines/ and the official website at https://www.neurobion.com/en_PH/home.html.

If symptoms persist, consult your doctor.

The Most Awaited Cure

The COVID-19 pandemic, also referred to as the coronavirus pandemic, is an ongoing 2019 coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID-19) triggered by the transmission of coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) extreme acute respiratory syndrome, which was first detected in Wuhan, China in December 2019. In January 2020, the outbreak was declared a public health emergency of international significance, and in March 2020, a pandemic.

January 22, 2020 is the day where a suspected covid case arrived in the Philippines, many people are unaware of the kind of virus even specialists are trying their best to contain this outbreak. March 1, 2020 there are 663 suspected covid case reported in the Philippines and the second week of March quarantine are being implemented in the our country as time goes by many cases have been reported in Manila and eventually there are local transmission reported everywhere and the economy is slowly collapsing because of the (ECQ) Enhanced community Quarantined many business are closed temporarily and some are close for good.

Scientists discover vaccines to help people and to continue the economy of each country. There are 6 companies racing to mass produce a coronavirus vaccine this are Novavax, Astrazeneca, johnson and johnson, Sanofi and Glaxosmithkline, moderna, and pfizer and biontech.

Novavax (NASDAQ:NVAX), a small-cap vaccine biotech, has gained production capacity for 2.75 billion doses of its vaccine candidate, NVX-CoV2373. Praha Vaccines and its manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic were purchased by the biotech in May. The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine is a viral vector vaccine that is also known as ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 or AZD1222. Scientists modified an adenovirus that was originally derived from chimps in order to train the immune system to mount a strong response to SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19).Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, developed the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, which is a human adenovirus viral vector vaccine. Sanofi is producing the vaccine candidate itself, while GlaxoSmithKline is adding an adjuvant that should enhance immune response. The two companies plan to manufacture up to 1 billion doses of vaccine a year, internally and through external CMO agreements. The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, codenamed mRNA-1273, is a COVID-19 vaccine developed by the United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, and Moderna. Pfizer (NYSE:PFE) is collaborating with German company BioNTech (NASDAQ:BNTX) to develop a COVID-19 vaccine candidate. Like Moderna, the two companies are focused on an mRNA vaccine. That could have serious distribution challenges.

Vaccines mimic the virus or bacteria that causes disease and triggers the body’s creation of antibodies. These antibodies will provide protection once a person is infected with the actual disease causing virus or bacteria.

The most awaited vaccines have already arrived here in the Philippines last February 28, 2021. China’s SinovacBiotech was the first vaccine that was received by our country to treat us against this Covid-19. According to Harry Roque “There is light at the end of the tunnel. That is light at the end of the tunnel”. These vaccines will be the answer to all our prayers, but there are still a lot of doubts if it will be really the solutions to all our problems. Since there are also a lot of side effects shown to other people that have been injected.  They are now starting to inject the vaccines according to the priority list that has been given. The priority groups are the Frontline health workers, seniors’ citizens, indigent population and the uniformed personnel. The priority list is categorized because of the initial limited supply, frontline health workers and uniformed personnel are prioritized since they have higher risk of exposure while on duty and to allow them to continue fulfilling their duties.

As an individual, I have also doubt and fear about these vaccines, because there is also news that shows about the side effects that happened to the individuals that got vaccinated. Some have died, other people have some allergies and some patients have worsened their case. However as time goes by I have been convinced that I should give it a try and be vaccinated to protect myself from this virus. Same as with other people, I hope this vaccine will help us and it turns out well. I still have worries about the side effects of these vaccines but I just hope and pray that everything will go back to normal after this and that vaccines will help us to clear our vision for the future.

Indeed after one year of fighting this pandemic, we are already foreseeing the end of all of these. Everyone around the globe experienced hardships and hurdles. Other people got jobless, the economy collapsed, the students are struggling with their online classes and some businesses got closed for good. But still here we are hoping for the day that we can finally go back to our daily lives and hoping that these vaccines will help us and may it turn out to be a great success.

Anvil Award was been given to Smile Train Philippines’ Virtual Telehealth Program

Everyday a lot of baby were being born having a cleft, there are around 540 children being born each day that haved this kind of genetic condition. It can give them so much hardship especially on their eating, breathing, hearing and speaking. In this being said, the world’s leading cleft organization, Smile Train give their services to help these children. As they give 100%- free cleft repair surgery and complete cleft care for children around the globe. A welfare that’s been throw into dissarray if not because of this pandemic. However a big thanks to virtual Telehealth  Program and speech camp that was introduced here in our country that gaves a big help especially on those children with cleft.

Since the start of the pandemic, Smile Train’s Speech Telehealth Program in the Philippines has treated over 100 patients, providing them with more than 700 cleft care-related sessions, including speech therapy, nutritional support, breastfeeding guidance for mothers of babies with clefts, pre-surgical consultations, and psychosocial care. This initiative was recently recognized during the 56th Anvil Awards as the organization bagged the Silver Award.

The Anvil award is a testament of Smile Train Philippines’ efforts to bring uninterrupted care to patients with a cleft palate even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. It also shines the light on the dedication and commitment of the volunteers, healthcare institutions, and corporate partners of Smile Train Philippines to rally support for cleft patients so that they may still receive comprehensive cleft care online.

Launched in April 2020, two weeks into the lockdown, the Virtual Telehealth program is manned by volunteer speech language pathologists. Maximizing technology and social media, the Virtual Telehealth Program made use of Facebook Live, chat applications such as Viber and Messenger, and online discussions to ensure that speech therapy classes continued virtually. More than that, the telehealth program managed to reach cleft patients who live in rural or isolated communities and made its services more readily available or convenient for people with limited mobility, time, or transportation options. When and where possible, Smile Train Philippines also provided phone cards for both the speech language pathologists (SLPs) and the patients to help with connectivity.

”This recognition by our peers in the communication industry is proof that we are making headway in our call for a more efficient telehealth network. A combination of a variety of solutions as encouraged by telehealth will ensure that children and adolescents with special needs do not get left behind, especially during a global pandemic,” said Kimmy Coseteng-Flaviano, Area Director – South East Asia, Smile Train. “For Smile Train, telehealth became not only a lifeline, but a tool for amplifying reach and promoting equity.”

The over 700 sessions given to more than 100 patients were provided from April 1st to December 31, 2020. This is more than double the number of patients who received virtual speech treatment during the same period in 2019.

With a strategy focused on educating, amplifying, and sustaining, Smile Train’s Virtual Telehealth Program garnered widespread coverage in the media, positive public reception, increased recognition for Smile Train and its advocacy, and ultimately saw an increase in speech language pathologists interested in working with Smile Train Philippines.

Smile Train believes that every child is worthy of the opportunity to live a normal life, and is committed to exploring various avenues and utilizing technology to reach more communities in the Philippines. Through the Virtual Telehealth Program, it continues to help its beneficiaries, reach out to its audiences, and, all in all, continue raising awareness about cleft lip and palate – bringing hope to those who need it the most.
